Chapter 194: Death knights

Yunning’s attention was irresistibly drawn to the magnificent crown. Its allure and mystery captivated her, beckoning her curiosity. Unable to resist its call, she reached out and touched it gently. Little did she know that this action would set forth a chain of events none had anticipated.

As Yunning lifted the crown, the room suddenly plunged into darkness, illuminated only by a chilling pair of crimson eyes glimmering in the shadows. A shiver ran down her spine as she realised that her touch had awakened a formidable presence. From the depths of the chamber emerged a group of fearsome death knights, their ghostly forms hauntingly spectral.

These death knights were more than mere ghostlike images of a person. They were powerful warriors bound by an unholy undeath. Clad in tarnished armour, each wielding a wicked blade, they possessed an unyielding strength that belied their ethereal nature. What made them even more formidable was their access to paladin spells, granting them the ability to bolster their undead brethren or inflict harm upon the living. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Reacting swiftly, Yunning and the others braced themselves for the onslaught. The air crackled with magic as Yunning, unfazed by the imminent danger, channelled her mystical powers. Arcane energies danced at her fingertips as she conjured protective barriers and unleashed spells of her own, creating a shield against the impending assault.

Qie Xieling being the weakest link decided to find a place to hide. Jolie would back him up but that didn’t mean he should put himself in the line of fire.

His heart raced as he darted through the ancient treasure vault, his footsteps echoing off the walls. The dimly lit room, filled with countless piles of gold, jewels, and artefacts, couldn’t mask the terrifying cries of the undead knight hot on his heels. He was so vulnerable and relied solely on his wits.

He stumbled over a fallen chest, the jingle of coins adding to the chaotic clamour. Qie Xieling could feel the chilling presence of the death knight closing in, its heavy armour clanking with each step. Frantically scanning his surroundings, his eyes settled on a large stone pillar tucked away in the corner of the treasure room. Without hesitation, he made a desperate dash towards it, praying that it would offer some respite from the relentless pursuer.

Reaching the stone pillar, Qie Xieling clung to it with all his strength, his chest heaving with each ragged breath. The cries of battle echoed through the chamber as the three fought the death knights in fierce combat. But Qie Xieling was left on his own feeling utterly defenseless.

While crouching down what seemed like the perfect hiding spot he felt a hair-raising sensation slithering down his spine, causing him to tense up.

Slowly, he turned his head and his eyes widened in horror as an undead knight stepped out from the shadows. Its rotten flesh hung loosely from its bones, the pale red glow of its eyes fixated on Qie Xieling. Panic welled up within him, threatening to overwhelm his senses.

As the undead knight raised its sword, a tiny glimmer of hope sparked within Qie Xieling’s heart. His fingers instinctively reached for the bracelet he wore on his wrist, a gift King Luo gave to him earlier. Though deprived of his magic, he knew the bracelet contained protection spells. This was for his safety lest he found himself in a difficult position.

With a surge of desperation, Qie Xieling activated the magic within the bracelet. A brilliant blue light enveloped him, shielding him from the imminent strike. The enchanted barrier crackled with energy, pushing back the death knight’s blade, each clashes resonating with a deafening crack.

While Qie Xieling was praying this bracelet would hold on, Jolie darted through the darkness, expertly manoeuvring to strike at the death knights’ weak spots. Boran, on the other hand, stood steadfast, his mighty greataxe striking with resounding force, denting the spectral armour.

The clash between the living and the undead was fierce. Blades clashed, lightning crackled, and healing energies mended wounds.

Yunning’s sorceress powers proved invaluable as she unleashed torrents of flame, scorching the death knights and momentarily weakening their unholy grip.

With each passing moment, their combined strength began to turn the tide in their favor or at least that’s what they thought. They fought with unwavering determination, slowly but resolutely overpowering the death knights.

Spells of protection and healing sustained them, fortifying their resilience against the relentless assault. Finally, as their adversaries faltered, one by one, they emerged victorious.

The chamber, once filled with darkness and chaos, now glowed with the triumphant aura of their success. The death knights lay defeated, their spectral forms dissipating into the ether.

Breathing heavily, Jolie stood amidst the aftermath of the battle. She looked around her expression turning uglier with every moment. She couldn’t find Qie Xieling anywhere. It was as though he had vanished into thin air. Where he had been hiding were faint traces of a death knight’s disintegrated body and a torn-up armour.

Earlier on Qie Xieling’s heartbeat began to slow as the death knight’s strikes against the enchanted barrier increased in frenzy. The magical bracelet shimmered with an otherworldly glow as it repelled each assault, the force of the clashes creating a symphony of crackling energy.

With a final, thunderous clash, the death knight’s blade shattered against the protective shield. The deathly creature wailed, its screeching cry ripping through the air, reverberating in Qie Xieling’s ears. As the sound intensified, the wretched death knight disintegrated into ash, its form dissipating into nothingness.

Relief washed over Qie Xieling, a surge of exhilaration coursing through him. He leaned against a nearby stone pillar, trembling from the sheer intensity of the encounter. Reaching into his clothes, he checked on the slumbering dragon. King Luo stirred, but still cocooned in his dreams, ignorant of the chaos that had just unfolded.

Just as Qie Xieling began to catch his breath, a soft click resonated behind him. His head snapped around, eyes widening as a secret door materialized before him. Bewildered but instinctively driven by curiosity, he stumbled backwards and found himself tumbling through the open passage. The secret door abruptly slammed shut, plunging him into darkness.
