Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 183: Did you miss me, Eling?
King Luo knew that continuing with this marriage would be a disservice to them both thus he was determined to end it here. "Yunning, I can offer you compensation, anything to ease the pain caused by my decision. I cannot bear to see you hurt, but I cannot force myself to give something I simply don’t possess."
But Yunning refused to accept his offer, her tears flowing freely now. She fell to her knees, her voice quivering with raw emotion as she pleaded, "Please, Luo, I beg you to reconsider. I cannot imagine a life without you. Let us find a way, let us build a future together even if it may not be perfect by society’s standards."
King Luo felt empathetic as he witnessed the depth of Yunning’s love and her unwavering determination. With a stern expression, he reached out to lift her from the floor, his touch gentle yet filled with resignation. "Yunning, my heart aches to see you act this way, but I cannot change who I am. I cannot ask you to bear the burden of my inability to love you as you deserve."
Yunning embraced him and wept in his arms, King Luo didn’t know how to react for a minute, In that moment, someone unexpectedly walked in on that situation and that person was Qie Xieling. The two locked eyes for a second but it felt like an eternity. Qie Xieling didn’t say anything. He turned around and left them alone. King Luo wasn’t sure what Qie Xieling was thinking and he desperately wanted to know but when he tried to start the conversation later he found that Qie Xieling was acting strange.
He smiled and acted as usual but there was this inexplicable tension lingering in the air making him very uneasy.
Qie Xieling was very bothered by it hence he didn’t want to talk about it. He didn’t want to hear how their love was blossoming like spring. In fact, he was starting to feel like a horrible person.
He was selfishly trying to explore his feelings for Luo Muchen and hoping that he would get rid of Yunning. When he realised that he felt that way he decided to avoid the topic completely. Qie Xieling didn’t feel like hanging around anyone tonight thus he slipped underneath the quilt using recovering as an excuse.
Instead of drinking the healing tea Jolie gave to him he found that Eling had a secret stash of wine in his things. He had already done a great job of avoiding the devil’s poison but in this depressive state, he told himself that there was nothing wrong with taking a sip. Just a sip won’t kill anyone, right?
Qie Xieling bit his lip while crawling to the entrance of the tent to peek his head out and see if Jolie was anywhere around. When he didn’t see her figure he slipped back inside the tent not realising that his little actions had attracted King Luo’s attention.
He thought he was being discreet but it turns out he wasn’t. He pulled open the waterskin and took a sip. If it was bitter or dry Qie Xieling might have stopped at a single sip but the problem was that it was so sweet and tasted so good.
One sip turned to two then three. By the time he realised he had drunk a little too much, it was already too late. He couldn’t vomit it out anyway. "It’s not bad. I thought I would be drunk for sure... shit," he said before he collapsed on the bed the world spinning. This wine was no joke. It made him feel like his body was floating in the clouds and his chest felt so warm and fuzzy with all those negative emotions gone.
Qie Xieling chuckled softly as he looked at the roof of the tent. He raised his hand and laughed softly at the fact that he was seeing doubles.
He slowly drank a few more sips and soon he lost the concept of time. The next thing he remembered was seeing a shadow looming over him. His speech slurred he asked, "Who are you?"
The figure remained silent, wearing a cloak that obscured its features. Qie Xieling’s heart pounded with a mixture of fear and curiosity.
With a swift, graceful motion, the mysterious figure pulled down the hood of the cloak, revealing a face that could only be described as transcendent beauty.
The woman before him had flawless pale skin, her features delicate and ethereal. Her eyes sparkled with a mischievous glimmer, and her long luscious hair cascaded down her shoulders.
"Oh, it’s you... what do you want now?" Qie Xieling whispered, his gaze captivated by the long sharp claw jewellery adorning her fingers.
The woman’s lips curved into a knowing smile, and her voice, melodious and full of allure, filled the room. "Did you miss me, Eling?" she asked her voice like a tantalizing melody. Her words sent shivers down his spine; he felt an inexplicable fear grip him.
She lay on top of him and when Qie Xieling tried to push her away he was too weak. If his magic wasn’t sealed even when drunk he would have at least been able to push her off of him but now he was like a sitting duck. Yana grabbed his wrist and with an obsessive look in her eyes, she pressed the back of his hand against her face affectionately.
"No no no," said Qie Xieling his voice scratchy and barely audible as he tried to turn over but his chin was pinched and he was forced to look at her.
She laughed softly, a sound that was powerful enough to bewitch. "You and I, Eling, are bound together by a tale etched in the annals of time," she said with her claws separating the lapel of his shirt. The tip of her finger clawed at his chest towards his heart.
Qie Xieling’s vision dimmed as he hummed in discontent. The next thing he remembered seeing was Yana being pulled off his body by her hair and dragged out of the tent.
He could hear the commotion going on outside but he was acting like it had nothing to do with him. He pulled the quilt and lay on his side. "Keep it down out there," he said. His voice was overshadowed by the chaos outside thus he was certain no one would hear him.
