Sanctuary: Safe Haven-Chapter 378: Change Of Pace
After sparring for two full days, Canna finally felt his reserves run dry. He had pushed himself to the limit, fighting against a formidable opponent like Abaddon. The intensity of the training session had drained every last ounce of energy from him. Panting, Canna sat on the ground, exhaustion evident on his face, as Abaddon calmly took a seat next to him.
"It’s been a good spar, master," Abaddon said, his tone respectful but firm. "I know your demon abilities are still new to you, but once you master them, they’ll become as natural as breathing."
Canna gave a tired smile. "Thank you, Abaddon. I couldn’t have asked for a better sparring partner. Now, you mentioned there were two things you wanted to tell me. We’ve already covered the first one, what’s the second?"
Before Abaddon could answer, Milo, the small demon beast, fluttered up to Canna’s face and spat out a fruit. Canna caught it, chuckling at Milo’s antics.
"Thanks, Milo," Canna said with a grin. "I forgot about your storage ability. You’re always surprising me."
Canna took a bite from the fruit, then turned back to Abaddon. "So, what were you saying?"
Abaddon cleared his throat before speaking. "Master, we should fully utilize your class—the Beast Covenant. Up until now, the number of monsters you’ve contracted with is limited, and honestly, most of the people in Sepra use their class abilities far more effectively than you have. You’re a bit of an anomaly, master."
Canna thought about it for a moment. The beasts under his covenant—Stormbringer, Stormtusk, Stormrend, Nyx, Solara, Terrorfang, Aurelis, Lumivyre, and Tushar—were powerful allies, but he hadn’t truly used his class to its full potential.
"You’re right, Abaddon," Canna admitted. "I’ve been neglecting my Beast Covenant abilities. We should search for more powerful creatures, perhaps in the ocean, and expand the covenant."
Abaddon turned his gaze toward the horizon. "No need to go that far yet, master. There are several powerful creatures nearby that have been eyeing your base. They only stay away because of my presence. If we can make them submit, not only will you gain more powerful beasts, but we’ll also remove potential threats to the base."
Canna smiled at the prospect. "Good thinking, Abaddon. Let’s deal with them soon. But before that, I need to make a quick round in the sanctuary. Feel free to handle things here while I’m gone."
With that, Canna opened a portal and stepped through, entering the sanctuary. Find your adventure at novelbuddy

Inside the sanctuary, Canna began his rounds, checking in with his people. His first stop was the dwarves and researchers. The dwarves, proud of their recent work, showed him some of their newest creations—stronger barriers, advanced weapons, and structures designed to withstand the toughest conditions. The researchers, meanwhile, were busy refining potions and developing new magical artifacts to further enhance the sanctuary’s defenses.
Next, Canna visited the wyverns, specifically Tushar, whose wings had been severely damaged during the last battle. He was pleased to see that Tushar’s wings were healing well, thanks to Flora’s magical intervention. The wyverns were in good spirits, eager to return to their duties once fully recovered.
Canna also made sure to check in with the other guardians—Vorgrim, Dravos, Flora, and Elandra. Each one reported the progress of their respective teams, and all seemed to be recovering well from the recent battles. Finally, Canna sought out Mortem, his firstborn, to ensure everything in the sanctuary was running smoothly. Mortem confirmed that all was in order, and the sanctuary was operating at peak efficiency.
After a long day of reconnecting with his subordinates, Canna felt reassured. His people were capable, resilient, and strong. He knew that, despite the challenges ahead, they would be able to meet them head-on.

Meanwhile, back at the clan base, Abaddon flew to meet with Ameena. She was in the middle of reviewing documents and handling administrative tasks for the clan. When Abaddon approached, Ameena cast a soundproof barrier around them, ensuring that no one would overhear their conversation—not even those with powerful spying artifacts.
Ameena looked up at Abaddon with a mischievous smile. "So, how did training our new master go?"
Abaddon’s face remained impassive, though there was a glint of something darker in his eyes. "Weak," he replied bluntly. "Our master is weak, too kind. He cares too much about his people."
Ameena chuckled softly, clearly amused by Abaddon’s assessment. "You? The great Abaddon? Calling someone weak? How curious." She leaned back slightly, her smile widening. "And what did you think of him, really?"
Abaddon glanced at Ameena, his gaze cold. "In Hell, I only fought to kill. I didn’t care about honor or glory. I fought to survive. There’s no place for kindness on a battlefield. Kindness only gets you killed."
Ameena nodded thoughtfully. "We’ve been fighting wars, causing mayhem, and toppling regimes for so long... What Canna has given us here, this life of relative peace, is unexpected." She crossed her arms and let out a soft sigh. "It’s not what I’m used to—managing armies, nations, spreading shadows through empires—but I have to admit, I’ve come to enjoy this new role. Helping build Clan Hope... it’s different, but it’s also refreshing."
Abaddon grunted, his usual stoic expression softening just slightly. "I’ll admit, I wanted to kill him when we first met. But now..." His voice trailed off, and he shook his head. "There’s something different about him. He showed me something I’ve never seen before. A life that doesn’t need constant battle. For the first time, I don’t have to constantly fight to survive."
Ameena smiled knowingly. "We’ve lived in darkness for so long, Abaddon. This light... It’s a strange feeling, isn’t it?"
"It is," Abaddon agreed, his voice quiet. "But I’ve decided. I’ll follow him. He may be weak now, but I’ll help make him stronger. I owe him that much."
Ameena’s smile turned into something more serious. "Then it’s settled. We’ll both do our best to fulfill Canna’s wishes. Whatever he wants, we’ll ensure it happens."

The two demons shared a moment of understanding, their lives, once ruled by chaos and bloodshed, had been irrevocably changed by Canna’s leadership. Now, their loyalty was firm, and they were determined to help him achieve his goals—whatever they may be.
As the barrier around them faded, Ameena spoke again. "Let’s ensure that Clan Hope becomes a force to be reckoned with."
Abaddon nodded in agreement, and with that, they both went their separate ways to continue carrying out Canna’s will.
