Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 189: The Naughty Child?!
Although Su Yijia couldn’t figure out who these people were, she felt that agitating them could be quite dangerous. Moreover, the old lady didn’t seem to be a person who was easy to talk to, allowing a naughty child to act as they wished. This situation felt like it could explode at any moment.
Troublesome events weren’t just confined to this era’s trains; even in the high-speed trains a few decades later, there was no peace. So, to avoid unnecessary complications, she decided to offer the dumplings. It was only a few dumplings, and she could afford it.
She opened the insulated container, fed Qin Kaize his congee, tidied up the food on the table, and listened nervously to the radio without much laughter or conversation. The trio didn’t make any significant noise either, and everyone quietly spent time until bedtime.
Before the ticket inspector came to check tickets, the three of them purposely left for a while. After about twenty minutes, they came back.
Su Yijia only massaged Qin Kaize’s body slightly and didn’t wipe his sweat, considering the presence of the little girl. Since the lower bunk was the most vacant, she and Qin Kaize slept on the lower berth. The two security guards and Xia Weiguo and Zhu Zirui took turns to stand guard at night.
However, in the middle of the night, Su Yijia was suddenly awakened by a sharp sound in her mind.
She bounced in her bed, and the two guards immediately looked over. They thought she was having a nightmare.
[Host, there’s something in your blanket!] 666 warned anxiously.
Su Yijia’s physical response was faster than her hands. She shrank her whole body onto the pillow, quickly lifted the blanket, and saw a centipede that was as long as chopsticks and as thick as two fingers. Even in the dark night, the creature appeared particularly prominent on the white blanket.
She was so scared that her pupils trembled, feeling as if someone had poured a bucket of ice-cold water over her head. Tears streamed down as she saw the centipede move.
Despite her eyes blurring from crying, it didn’t prevent her from swiftly grabbing the chopsticks from the table, directly picking up the centipede. Then, she quickly dropped it into a clean lunchbox and sealed the lid.
All this took maybe just a dozen seconds. By the time the two guards rushed to her bed, she had already finished the task.
The commotion woke everyone up.
"Yijia, what happened?" Xia Weiguo opened his flashlight and asked anxiously.
Gao Huabin quickly helped Qin Kaize up and looked at Su Yijia.
She raised an overly pale face and looked pitifully at everyone, her crystal tears sliding down her cheeks like broken beads.
This moved everyone’s hearts.
"Where did the centipede come from? It was so huge, crawling in my blanket just now." Su Yijia cried as she shook the lunchbox that was already sealed tightly, to confirm that it was a really large centipede.
The box made a heavy sound, which was evidence that she was telling the truth. However, the rest of the people were at a loss whether to console her or were just overwhelmed.
Crying out of fear was indeed a pathetic sight, but didn’t she manage to catch the centipede by herself? And didn’t she feel scared when holding the lunchbox?
Xia Weiguo cleared his throat, suppressing the strange feeling, and asked somewhat angrily, "How could such a huge centipede appear on this train? What if a passenger got bitten? People may lose their lives!"
"I will go find the train staff right away." One of the security guards immediately nodded and hurried off. Soon, several train attendants and police officers arrived.
"Sorry, our sanitation wasn’t up to standard, so even such a big centipede wasn’t discovered earlier. We apologize for the scare and inconvenience caused to you. We’ll report this and compensate accordingly," one of the attendants said apologetically and reached out to take the centipede.
However, Su Yijia immediately stopped them. "It’s not easy to find such a big centipede. I want to turn it into medicine."
"Wouldn’t it be dangerous?" The attendant looked a bit nervous.
They knew that centipedes could be used in traditional medicine, but this was captured on their train. If something happened to her later, they wouldn’t be free from responsibility.
"Whether it’s dangerous or not, ask them," Su Yijia pointed to the three people watching the incident on the side.
The old lady’s face changed immediately, her expression turning desperate as she retorted, "A centipede occurred in your bed, what’s that got to do with us?"
But no matter how she argued, it was of no use. The two security guards had already reached out to restrain them.
Suddenly, Su Yijia’s expression changed dramatically, and she hurled the chopsticks in her hand towards the old lady and the young girl.
Their attempting hands to make a sly move were harshly thwarted by the chopsticks, which pierced through, and blood quickly began to flow.
The two guards then extracted two hemp ropes from their luggage and bound them securely.
Evidently, these hemp ropes had been prepared in advance, ready to tightly bind anyone encountering trouble on the road.
"We didn’t seem to provoke you, did we? You were clamoring for dumplings, and I even shared them with you," Su Yijia felt puzzled.
She had been exceedingly cautious, so how could she still attract trouble?
"You have so many dumplings, just give us ten; are you treating us like beggars?" the young girl retorted angrily.
"Didn’t you say two would be enough for yourself? I gave you more," Su Yijia found their logic difficult to follow.
It was as if when the heavens wanted to trouble you, they’d arrange for you to encounter a few lunatics.
"My grandson cried for so long, and only then did you give it! You are heartless, not close to the masses, deliberately showing off your wealth," the old lady accused resolutely.
Su Yijia wanted to say that her grandson was just a spoiled child, and there was no reason for outsiders to indulge him. But when her gaze subconsciously shifted to that little rascal, she found a sinister expression on the face of the child, who, at six or seven years old, exhibited a malevolence unsuitable for his age.
His gaze was directed towards Xia Weiguo and Qin Kaize, and his shoulders seemed to be moving.
"Uncle, Kaize, the kid’s up to something!" Su Yijia shouted urgently.
As she spoke, two chilling glints came stabbing towards them. However, Xia Weiguo and Gao Huabin had already reacted, both swiftly dodging the incoming poisoned needles.
Realizing his failure, the child, resembling a young cheetah, swiftly fled.
"Damn!" Su Yijia couldn’t believe it, blurting out a curse.
Gao Huabin also darted out immediately. But within a short while, he returned, then shook his head gravely at them.
"He just smashed the window and jumped out."
The train was in motion... did he jump off the moving train?
And wasn’t he just a mischievous child?
What in the world was going on?!
Su Yijia was somewhat bewildered.
Before she could comprehend, she heard the old lady and the young girl screaming. Their jaws had been dislocated by the two guards.
Seeing everyone’s attention directed at them, the guards hastily explained, "They just attempted poisoning."
"Secure the prisoners; we’re getting off at the next stop," Xia Weiguo ordered with a stern expression.
