Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 127: Be Eliminated from the Family Pedigree Book?!
The police officers and the military soldiers, still bewildered, followed them outside. Inside, Grandma Su and Grandpa Su sat on the ground, completely deflated, and wailed in sorrow. None of the onlookers had any sympathy for them; instead, they stared at the pair with disgust.
"Cao Guihua, Su Gensheng, do you realize your wrongs?" The clan leader of the Su family knocked his cane heavily and reprimanded.
Grandpa Su seemed as if he hadn’t heard, hanging his head and sobbing intermittently. However, Grandma Su immediately raised her head and looked defiantly at the elder.
"What did we do wrong? Isn’t it your fault? As members of the same family, why were all of you just watching from the sidelines? If you had been willing to help, would we have been bullied by that wretched girl to the point where we couldn’t even fight back?" Grandma Su argued, her voice full of anger.
"Cao Guihua!" The other family members exclaimed, shocked.
They couldn’t believe that this old woman had the audacity to shout at the leader of the clan.
The old leader pointed his cane at her, then coldly snorted, "You are just the daughter-in-law of the Su family. This matter is not your place to speak. Su Gensheng, do you share the same thoughts as your wife?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Even though he had remained silent, his stance on the matter was evident.
"Very well! I can’t control you anymore! If you have the ability, then go start your own family!" The clan leader, not bothering to look at Grandpa Su, raised his cane high but didn’t strike it down.
Grandpa Su looked terrified and asked, "Leader, what do you mean?"
"Go! Get the family pedigree book!" The elder of the Su family ordered those around him.
"Leader, what are you trying to do?" Grandpa Su asked with fear in his eyes.
"What am I trying to do? I am removing all of you from the family pedigree. We can’t afford to have you in our clan anymore!" The leader sneered in anger, not even bothering to look at Grandpa Su.
Grandpa Su and Grandma Su were utterly stunned, their gazes blank as they stared at him. After several seconds of numb silence, they suddenly wailed and rushed to grab the elder’s legs.
"Leader, you can’t treat us like this! You’ve watched me grow up since I was a child, and for the past twenty years, we’ve worked hard for the clan. We’ve sent at least ten of the younger generation to school with our own money.," Grandpa Su said, bewildered and desperate. He had never imagined that, after working so hard and sacrificing so much for the family, he would be removed from the family records.
"The good deeds do not outweigh the bad! Look at what your children did twenty years ago – scheming for wealth and taking lives! We have never documented such despicable members in our family. Today, because of you, our ancestors’ rest has been disrupted. I would rather not see them in my afterlife," the elder said with increasing anger, his body trembling slightly.
People around him gasped and rushed to support him. It wasn’t long before someone brought a thick yellow book into the room. The leader, trembling, flipped through the pages of the book. Grandpa Su clung to his leg, earnestly begging, "Leader, we know we were wrong! We promise to resolve this matter, and we won’t let the children end up with a criminal record. We won’t bring shame to the Su family. Please, help us, say a good word for us! If we’re truly removed, there’s no point in me continuing to live."
Tears streamed down his face as he looked at the people around him, seeking their support. The tearful plea moved those who had known him for many years.
However, before they could speak in support, someone else burst into the room in haste.
"I’m sorry, we realized halfway there that Su Gensheng and Cao Guihua have just injured some villagers so badly that they are in hospital now. They have to go to the police station for this," the two police officers said, bending down to try and pull the elderly couple up.
"No! We won’t go to the police station!" Grandpa Su and Grandma Su clung to the elder’s leg even more tightly and refused to let go, no matter what.
"Let go!" the leader yelled in pain.
People around him were afraid that the struggle could hurt him. They quickly joined in to either squeeze Grandpa Su and Grandma Su’s soft flesh or to pry their fingers off.
It took a lot of effort to finally peel them away from the elder’s leg.
"We won’t go to the police station! We’ll compensate! Can’t we just settle this with money?" Grandpa Su was struggling for his last breath, while Grandma Su quickly nodded in agreement. "Exactly! That kid is just a rich man’s brat. It would be generous of us to give him some money."
"No matter what, that person is a living human being, not livestock! You’ve beaten him badly, and you will be held legally responsible," the police officer scolded, frowning. They didn’t give them any more chances to speak, and they loaded the couple onto the car.
After the Su family had calmed down completely, they looked at the leader and asked, "What should we do now? Should we remove Su Gensheng’s family from the family pedigree?"
"Remove them! They must be removed! Just look at them; the whole family has been taken to the police station. The Su family absolutely won’t tolerate such ungrateful descendants who bring shame upon our ancestors," the elder, despite the pain in his leg, had made up his mind and wasn’t giving them any opportunities.
The car bumped along the dirt road. Inside the dimly lit car, the atmosphere felt heavy and oppressive. Ke Zeming and the others occasionally stole glances at Su Yijia, whose lips were tightly sealed, and thought about saying something to her, but they couldn’t find the right words.
In the current situation, it seemed impossible for anyone to stay calm. No matter what they said, it was just words in the end. "Focus on driving, don’t look at me," Su Yijia spoke up, shifting her gaze away from the bundle of bones on her lap. Her dark, shining eyes seemed unnaturally calm, making it difficult to guess her thoughts.
It wasn’t until she glanced at Qin Kaize from the corner of her eye that the coldness in her expression started to fade. The deep concern in his eyes was so thick that it was almost palpable, as if he was afraid she would get upset.
"I’m fine. We’ve retrieved the bones, so that’s a relief. We’ll clean them thoroughly when we get back and then buy a coffin for my mother," Su Yijia forced a smile, tugging at her lips. When she saw Qin Kaize blink a couple of times, she fell silent for a moment. As if she had just remembered something, she suddenly asked, "Ke, do you know which hospital the person who was beaten was taken to?"
"I know. Are you planning to go see him?" Ke Zeming asked.
"Of course we’re going to see him. It’s already too late to go to the supply and marketing cooperative at this hour. First, let’s go back to the Qin family and get some things, and then we’ll go see him," Su Yijia said.
"It’s quite late now. How about tomorrow?" Zhu Zirui checked the time and noticed that it was already half-past eight. It was getting late, and they should probably get some rest.
"Tomorrow would be too late," Su Yijia replied, her lips curling up with a meaningful arc.
Her words left everyone slightly bewildered. They couldn’t quite understand what Su Yijia was planning, but they were sure it wasn’t something good.
