Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 389 - 387: Climber (Part 1)
"Xu Renjie, prepare for a retreat!"
Seeing more and more zombies gathering, Tang Xiaoquan understood that continuing to wait here would only attract more of these beasts.
And this would not only fail to save their companions trapped in danger, but also risk their group being surrounded by a horde of zombies.
"What did you say? Retreat?" Xu Renjie thought he heard wrong, looking at the young man beside him with disbelief.
Time was of the essence, and Tang Xiaoquan didn’t have the luxury to explain in detail, so he briefly expressed his concerns to Xu Renjie.
Upon hearing this, Xu Renjie instantly understood and nodded, then rolled down the car window, calling out loudly to Zhao Yunhai and the others who were anxiously waiting for rescue: "Comrade Zhao Yunhai, hang in there! We will find a way to get you out!"
After saying this, Xu Renjie pulled his head back in, shifted into reverse, and the car made a U-turn on the spot, hastily retreating in the direction they came from.
"Hey! What’s going on? What did they just say? Why does it look like they’re not planning to save us?" Watching the municipal vehicle moving farther away, Yue Guishan seemed possessed as he climbed to the window, waving desperately.
But no matter how he shouted or waved, the vehicle still disappeared mercilessly around the corner.
Zhao Yunhai, worried Yue Guishan might fall in his agitation, quickly pulled him back inside, comforting him: "Yue, calm down! Captain Xu just said clearly, hang in there for a bit longer. If I’m not wrong, the situation at the building’s foot isn’t good, they can’t get through for now! That’s why they’re retreating to think of a plan!"
Sure enough, after Zhao Yunhai’s explanation, the previously hysterical Yue Guishan gradually calmed down.
However, a mood of disappointment inevitably spread among everyone.
"Damn it! What’s going on! Why the hell are we retreating!" At the back of the car, Wang Qiang was increasingly feeling something wasn’t right, as the vehicle was speeding towards the campus exit.
The soldiers were also puzzled, unable to grasp what was happening.
Unlike the soldiers who were more composed, Wang Qiang was not calm; he started pounding on the car roof, shouting, "Hey! Quan! What’s going on! Why are we leaving the school? What about Old Zhao and the others?"
Already a bit agitated, Xu Renjie got even more irked by Wang Qiang’s brainless yelling, and he slammed on the brakes, leaning out and reprimanding sternly, "Wang Qiang! What’s your problem! Are you the only one eager to save people? Does no one else care? Think about why we’re leaving the school before you speak!"
Saying this, Xu Renjie didn’t care what Wang Qiang thought, as he retracted his head and restarted the car.
Wang Qiang was stunned, as it was the first time he saw Xu Renjie this angry, and he was at a loss about what to do.
"Qiang, it’s just our captain’s temper, don’t take it to heart! We’re retreating now because the school environment isn’t safe for us to stay. I think you saw the situation in the building earlier; if we push through, we might not only fail to save Zhao and them, but we could also be endangered ourselves."
Wang Qiang understood Zhang Zhicai’s persuading, but his naturally emotional and righteous personality made it hard for him to remain calm and rational when companions were in danger.
At this moment, the instigator of the retreat order, Tang Xiaoquan, stayed quiet, playing with his bangs.
"Well, Xiao Tang, have you thought of a plan?" Xu Renjie asked, his eyes occasionally glancing at the young man beside him.
Tang Xiaoquan remained silent for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Captain Xu, do you know how to operate a bulldozer?"
"A bulldozer?" Xu Renjie was taken aback by the unexpected question, "No! But Li Xiaoxin from our unit learned from his father at a construction site before joining the army, why do you ask?"
Tang Xiaoquan didn’t answer directly, instead nodding, then pointed ahead and said, "Captain Xu, remember that construction site on the way here? We’re heading there now; I have a plan to rescue Zhao and them!"
Though still unsure what was on the young man’s mind, Xu Renjie followed his directions and sped ahead.
The construction site wasn’t far from the academy, and it took the rescue team less than 10 minutes to reach their destination.
Without hesitation, Xu Renjie slammed on the gas, crashing through two guarding zombies before driving the municipal vehicle to a halt in front of a bulldozer.
"Why did we come here?" Wang Qiang’s question echoed the thoughts of the soldiers at the back, but before anyone could ponder, Xu Renjie’s powerful voice rang from the front.
"Li Xiaoxin!"
"Here!"
"Can you drive this ’big guy’?"
"Huh?" After a brief pause, Li Xiaoxin stood at attention, confidently replying, "Report, Captain! Yes, I can drive it!"
"Good! Get up there and start it up now, then we’re going back to save people!"
By now, even a fool could understand Tang Xiaoquan’s purpose in coming here.
Setting down his Steel Blade, Li Xiaoxin climbed onto the tall bulldozer like a nimble monkey.
Almost simultaneously, a heavy external impact struck the municipal vehicle they had just heard about.
"Bang!" Wang Qiang lost his footing, falling hard on the ground.
"Qiang! You okay?"
"Damn! What’s happening!"
As he spoke, two more impacts landed, not just sending Wang Qiang tumbling, but almost causing the other soldiers to fall as well.
"Damn! Prepare for battle!" Lei Tong drew his Steel Blade, slashing at a zombie climbing onboard, but to his surprise, although his blade struck, the target...
Staring in disbelief at the zombie impaled by his blade yet still climbing, Lei Tong’s bulging eyes widened further.
How could this be? Zombies climbing onto the vehicle?
But whether you believed it or not, the fact was...zombies were indeed climbing onto the vehicle.
Meanwhile, from above the bulldozer came Li Xiaoxin’s urgent cries, as a zombie climbing just like before ensnared his leg mid-air.
And worse still, more "Climbers" were converging towards the bounty of the honey pot.
The rescue team was on the brink of disaster...(To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets, monthly tickets. Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com for reading.)
