Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 388 - 386: Shuren Architecture College (Part 6)
The urban management vehicle was like an "arrow leaving the string," heading straight for the wall of zombies.
In an instant, bodies flew and fluids splattered, especially for Wang Qiang, who, if not for Lei Tong’s quick eye and hand pulling him back, might really have "achieved his wish" and fallen out of the car.
"Ka, clang, bang bang!" With the violent collisions, the vehicle shook up and down, and even though Tang Xiaoquan held tightly onto the handle on the roof, his body still was inevitably shaken to the point of dizziness, just short of shaking out his breakfast.
The crash lasted about 3 minutes, and when the urban management vehicle broke through the encirclement and saw daylight again, its body had been coated with a "new paint" of blood and flesh, clearly indicating how fierce and terrifying the breakout had just been.
"Phew~" Xu Renjie instinctively let out a long breath, his highly tense nerves making him feel a bit fatigued.
He cast a sidelong glance at the somewhat weary Tang Xiaoquan and asked with concern, "How are you? Xiao Tang, are you okay?"
Uncontrollably dry-heaving a couple of times, Tang Xiaoquan waited until his stomach settled a bit before slowly responding, "I’m fine! Don’t worry about me!"
The car continued forward, and because they needed to look for the previous squad’s escape traces, Xu Renjie deliberately slowed the vehicle down to the minimum speed.
But their "leisurely" search cast a shadow on Lao Zhao and others anxiously waiting for rescue at Shuren Architecture College.
"I say, Lao Zhao, it’s been another hour, why hasn’t anyone come yet?"
Yue Guishan had been "nagging" about this question countless times in the past hour, and if it were anyone else, they would have blown up already.
Yet, Zhao Yunhai remained quite graceful. Besides his professional demeanor, it mainly stemmed from his past torment of being trapped by zombies in a room alone.
So he could thoroughly understand the feelings of Yue Guishan and others facing such a situation for the first time.
"Trust me, the rescue will come!"
After speaking, Zhao Yunhai laboriously stood up. Once his legs, accustomed to sitting, adapted a bit, he went straight to a small stool with supplies and took out four small bags of biscuits, tearing them open one by one: "Here, everyone, eat something, fill up your stomachs a bit, replenish some energy, lest when the rescue squad arrives, we don’t have the strength to break out, that would be a joke, hehe!"
Feigning a light chuckle, Zhao Yunhai tried to ease the tense atmosphere.
Although he knew that doing so wouldn’t alleviate any substantial burden for the others, he had to give them a glimmer of hope.
The rain continued to fall sharply, and the oppressive clouds made the faculty room appear dim.
The four of them held the meager biscuits, swallowing silently, none of them speaking, all hanging their heads in thought.
Time passed quietly, Tang Xiaoquan’s eyes scanned every possible place a figure could hide by the street like radar.
But despite his diligent search, he still found nothing.
Facing such a disappointing reality, Tang Xiaoquan realized that continuing further held no great significance.
After all, they were already 7 or 8 kilometers away from the accident site; even if Lao Zhao and the others escaped, they absolutely couldn’t have fled this far.
So Tang Xiaoquan decisively suggested:
"Commander Xu, I think we should just go to the academy directly!"
Slightly taken aback, Xu Renjie, focused on the road ahead, couldn’t help but turn his head in surprise after hearing the young man’s suggestion: "Go straight to the academy?"
"Yes!" Tang Xiaoquan nodded affirmatively and explained his thoughts, then emphasized, "Now, time is life. I think rather than wasting time on this meaningless search, it’s better to go directly to the academy to check where the disaster originated."
After a brief contemplation, Xu Renjie immediately stepped on the gas.
The young man wasn’t wrong; there were many doubts about Lao Zhao and the others’ accident. Since searching along the road yielded no results, they could only go to the academy to find out.
Half an hour later, the urban management vehicle appeared at Shuren Academy’s gates as expected.
Because the roads were unfamiliar, Xu Renjie had to lower the vehicle speed once again.
Meanwhile, the action team, waiting for nearly 9 hours, finally someone faintly heard the roar of an engine.
"Hey, hey, everyone! Don’t be dazed! Listen, listen! What’s that sound? What’s that sound?" While speaking, Yue Guishan had already stood up and quickly walked towards the window.
"It’s a car! It’s the sound of a car! Could it be...
You can hardly imagine the drastic emotional upheaval of someone nearly in despair, suddenly grabbing onto hope.
At least at this moment, Yue Guishan, overwhelmed with excitement, couldn’t even speak clearly.
Lao Zhao also heard the rumbling roar, and Wang Zhongyu, who knew cars well, determined right away without looking that it was indeed the urban management vehicle from their base!
All four of them stood at the window, anxiously waiting for the vehicle to appear.
"Lao Zhao!!"
"Little Wang!!"
"Big Brother Yue!!"
"Big Brother Bi!!"
With their last hope, the rescue squad members shouted at the top of their lungs.
Thanks to the silence of the campus, their voices were amplified in the vast environment, successfully reaching the ears of Lao Zhao and the others.
"It’s Xiao Tang, it’s Xiao Tang and the team! They’ve come to rescue us! Lao Zhao, you were right! They’ve really come to save us!"
Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Lao Zhao smiled at the thrilled Yue Guishan and quickly shouted back, "Hey! We are here! We are here!"
Similarly, the rescue squad quickly received Lao Zhao’s message, and following his voice’s guidance, the Survivor Squad, separated for ten long hours, finally met again.
Excitement! Joy! Delight! It’s hard to use words to describe the feeling of this reunion.
However, while everyone cheered and jumped, Tang Xiaoquan and Xu Renjie in the driver’s seat frowned silently.
In their eyes, inside the teaching building where Lao Zhao and others were, dark figures gathered densely. Though they couldn’t confirm the situation inside due to the dim light, Tang and Xu were very aware that with their few numbers, forcibly breaking through was obviously impossible.
What to do? Staring at the third-floor window where four comrades excitedly waved their arms, Tang Xiaoquan pondered deeply.
Meanwhile, because of their harassment, another batch of zombies staggered out from the surrounding teaching buildings... (To be continued.
