Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 332 - 331: Deployment of the Temporary Residence (Part 2)
The next day, the survivor team was divided into three groups according to the plan to carry out their respective tasks.
The first group was composed entirely of soldiers, with Captain Xu Renjie, and team members Hua Biao, Li Xiaoxin, Shen Lian, and Lei Tong. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Their task was to gather supplies for the gymnasium and their own team’s reserves.
The second group, under the command of Zhao Yunhai, would lead Tang Xiaoquan, Wu Chao, Wen Quanxin, and Wang Qiang to search two buildings in the district to prepare for potential upcoming battles.
The third group consisted of the remaining three soldiers, who had a significant responsibility. They needed to guard the safety of Room 202 and monitor the surrounding road conditions to provide warnings and alerts to their combat personnel in case of crisis.
As for military doctor Zhang Zhicai, Xu Renjie assigned him only one task: to make sure to take care of the two survivors in the second team.
Because, to him, he simply could not bear the loss of these two people.
Perhaps this was his way of redeeming himself for the mistakes he made in the past.
It must be said that the combat skills of soldiers were far superior to those of ordinary people. Although the guns in their hands had been confiscated by Scar and his group, this did not diminish their fighting power in the slightest.
Who were they? They were none other than the renowned Sharp Blade Company, who endured rigorous training standards unmatched by ordinary units.
Meanwhile, compared to the team led by Tang Xiaoquan, who had also long experienced the "field of corpses," they were undoubtedly stronger.
After all, not only were their skills outstanding, but their teamwork was also seamless.
Of course, besides these external factors, the most crucial point for this team’s strength was their absolute obedience.
As the saying goes, everyone has different thoughts and views on the same matter, or else there wouldn’t be the saying "a thousand people see a thousand different Hamlets."
However, such diverse thoughts can be a highly unstable factor in the apocalypse, in battle.
This was evident from the past experiences of Tang Xiaoquan’s team, where many times they foresaw danger but still ended up in precarious situations.
The reason was simple: a lack of unified thinking and opinions, with everyone adhering to their basic principles and subconsciously believing their ideas were correct.
Although they also adopted so-called "democratic consultation policies," little did they know that this "narrow democracy" led correct plans to be completely derailed under the concept of "the minority obey the majority" and "skewed democratic thinking."
Such a mistake would not happen to professional soldiers because, regardless of how many opinions they had, once Xu Renjie as the leader gave instructions, they would eliminate all distractions and fully focus on executing the order.
Absolute obedience may not always be correct, but it surely surpasses compromising actions with hidden agendas.
Therefore, an outstanding team leader should not only be open to public opinions and deter everyone, but more importantly, he must make the most decisive judgments at the most difficult moments.
Regardless of whether the final judgment is correct, he must unite everyone towards the same goal.
This was precisely what Tang Xiaoquan’s team lacked. Whether it was Hu Xiaodong, Zhao Yunhai, or Lin Junfu, they all shared a common flaw: indecisiveness and susceptibility to external influences.
As for Tang Xiaoquan, the team brains, although he had a blind confidence in his ideas and judgments in his bones, the age difference meant that he was destined to be someone who gave opinions rather than making decisions within the team.
However, now, with the addition of professional soldier Xu Renjie, this was quietly changing.
Considering that Scar might launch a sneak attack at any time, Xu Renjie’s first team chose not to go to distant places, but to base themselves in the Bieyuan District and spread out to the surrounding storefronts.
Although this may affect the efficiency of material searches due to the small shop sizes, in terms of safety, it was the most appropriate choice.
On the other hand, Lao Zhao’s second team also started their task, adopting a top-down inspection method to avoid the awkwardness caused by being attacked from above and below.
Based on the already analyzed results, there were likely no more than 10 zombies in this district, so when faced with firmly closed houses, Lao Zhao’s team had nothing to hesitate about; they just needed to use brute force to open them.
The same approach had two benefits. First, it solved the problem of the door being unopenable. Second, it could draw out those hidden zombies lurking in the dark with the intent to ambush.
The final result was indeed as Lao Zhao’s team had anticipated. The noise from breaking in did attract the zombies’ attention, even drawing those wandering in the opposite building out of "curiosity."
Xu Renjie’s team’s progress was also smooth. Thanks to absolute obedience, the soldiers executed their tasks with lightning speed.
They barely communicated throughout, relying exclusively on hand gestures between arms to convey instructions. Though silent, their cooperation was nearly perfect.
At each location, the soldiers did only two things: kill enemies and carry supplies.
Aside from that, they made no superfluous movements or said any frivolous words.
They seemed like programmed robots, merely executing designated commands.
Yet, one must admit, while their approach was extremely monotonous, the efficiency was unimaginably high.
In an entire alley, with a total of 8 shops, Xu Renjie’s team finished emptying them in just 40 minutes.
Such a feat was beyond the realm of possibility for previous survivor teams.
Back at base, Lao Zhao’s second team had also completed the search and inspection of two buildings early.
After this half day’s labor, the whole team’s gains were substantial.
Especially in terms of materials, miscellaneous items had already filled Room 603 to the brim.
Fortunately, with plenty of houses available, the survivors didn’t worry about not having a place to stay due to stored materials. They simply turned Room 603 into a supply storage base.
Time flew by, and the day passed quickly as the survivors kept busy. Soon, darkness once again enveloped the sky.
Night had fallen!!
