Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 331 - 330: Deployment of the Temporary Residence (Part 1)
Wei Dazhuang evidently wanted to say something more, but facing Lin Junfu and the others’ stern looks, he wisely kept his mouth shut.
Walking out of the tent, Wei Dazhuang looked up to the sky, thick clouds blanketing the horizon oppressively. An inexplicable irritation stirred within him, and he headed straight for his tent.
"Dazhuang, Brother Dazhuang, wait, wait for me!" After some time of recovery, Zhao Huilong’s complexion was noticeably better, but due to lack of food, his walking was still somewhat impaired.
Wei Dazhuang deliberately slowed his pace, waited for the latter to catch up, glanced at him with a slanting eyebrow, and said coldly, "You’re not deliberately following me around to act as a spy, are you?!"
Upon hearing these words, Zhao Huilong’s already pale face changed instantly. He waved his hands quickly to explain, "No, no, no, Brother Wei, what are you talking about! I truly want to follow you."
"Really?"
"Of course! I’m different from them, like you said, their minds are too rigid! To be honest, I’ve lived a cowardly life all my life, just wanted a chance to become someone successful. Now that Scarface controls the base, if I go with him, I believe it’s definitely better than with Old Lin and the others."
Wei Dazhuang gave a half-hearted glance at the man beside him, raised his eyebrows, still seemingly skeptical.
After all, he had been through too much today, mentally exhausted.
"You better be telling the truth, otherwise don’t blame me for turning my back on you!"
Zhao Huilong had seen Wei Dazhuang’s methods before. During the City Management Bureau breakout, the latter’s sword skill like that of a Demon God still left him in awe.
So, he quickly rubbed his hands together with a fawning smile, promising, "Hehe, Brother Wei, you can rest assured. If there’s anything you need in the future, just let me know, I’ll serve you wholeheartedly. It’s just... hehe,"
His eyes subconsciously glanced upwards, and seeing that Wei Dazhuang did not show any aversion, Zhao Huilong boldly continued, "I just hope that Brother Wei can put in a good word with Big Boss Dai for me, just to get a meal to eat, hehe."
"Hmph!" With a disdainful snort, Wei Dazhuang couldn’t be bothered with the sickly man beside him, muttered "that’s the extent of your ambition," and walked off.
By dusk, most of the base’s civilians, having no food to eat, huddled early in their tents.
They did so partly to fend off hunger, and partly to avoid Scarface’s men.
After all, the former’s rough tactics at the base were well ingrained, so now that they controlled the base, the civilians were even more terrified.
They could only hope that Scarface would be generous enough to share some of the grain brought from the warehouse, but regrettably, that conscience-fed-to-dogs bastard did not increase the supply, but instead further exploited and withheld it from the original distribution system.
Regarding this, the base’s civilians naturally felt many grievances, but long accustomed to bearing hardship, they dared not speak out, thus resorted to curling up in bed to relieve the discomfort of hunger. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Through his understanding with Zhao Huilong, Wei Dazhuang roughly deduced the specific process of today’s base takeover by Scarface.
It must be said, the latter’s thought process was quite simple, simply put, ’divide and conquer.’
Though it sounds simple, the implementation was quite difficult.
This was a guerrilla tactic often used by the Huaxia Race during the Anti-Japanese War when dealing with the numerously equipped invaders from Japan.
According to Zhao Huilong, early in the morning, a tent in the center of the playground inexplicably caught fire, undoubtedly a trick by Scarface, since ordinary civilians had no fire to use.
On the base’s side, with only three stationed soldiers focusing on the city’s four gates of defense, they could only send one with Scarface’s Civilian Corps to the scene for rescue.
This soldier was no different from a sheep entering a tiger’s den, even if he was fully armed, even if he was highly capable, but he could not fend off many with just fists.
Moreover, this was a premeditated trap, so unsurprisingly, whilst the soldier was fully engaged in firefighting, the mob mixed with the crowd and the Civilian Corps overwhelmed him, disarming the helpless soldier almost without bloodshed.
There was no need for further speculation about what happened afterward; even if Wei Dazhuang hadn’t served as a soldier, he knew the remaining soldiers would not resist.
It seems that Scarface’s intelligence far surpasses his appearances! Wei Dazhuang smoked silently, the sparking cigarette embers flickering in the swirling smoke.
Nobody knew what he was thinking, as the dark night gradually cloaked in a thin mist.
"Seems like the storm is coming!" Old Zhao put the prepared dishes on the table one by one.
These were dishes he cobbled together using the remaining supplies in the house. Though not tasty, to the survivors who had endured a tiring day, it was undoubtedly as delicious as a feast.
During the meal, Tang Xiaoquan shared the plan he made in the afternoon with everyone.
Firstly, on the choice of accommodation.
Given the location of the gymnasium, he suggested not moving; however, to prevent a potential raid by Scarface, he wanted everyone to move to the top floor opposite.
By doing so, they could use the high vantage point to monitor the surrounding streets and create the illusion of leaving for Scarface.
After all, if Scarface were to launch a raid, he would definitely target the second floor where he previously held hostages, and the survivors moving to the third floor opposite would easily cause them confusion and possibly lead to a counterattack.
Secondly, regarding resources.
This building and a neighboring one in Piling could serve as preliminary resource preparation areas since Tang Xiaoquan had already carefully observed upon arrival that the residents in this community were few, with a combined total of only 6 floors. Except for those killed by Sang Biao and those not home on the outbreak day, any remaining zombies would not exceed 10.
Lastly, concerning security.
Before moving to the opposite building, the Survivor Team must properly assign sentry duties, especially at night, when it’s easiest to let one’s guard down, monitoring the surroundings must not be neglected.
Additionally, some basic defensive positions were extremely necessary.
Although having lookouts and a deceptive "battlefield" to confuse the enemy, these alone could not completely prevent battles from occurring.
So to minimize the disadvantage of engaging the enemy face-to-face, Tang Xiaoquan felt it was very necessary to set up effective traps and positions to avoid the enemy.
Regarding this, as a professional soldier, Xu Renjie naturally agreed, and he had already devised several ways to deal with the incoming enemy in his mind.
PS, naming Chapters is such a bothersome thing, hahaha
