Chapter 229: Magic Training Dummy

The two dragonlings stared at Ackster with shock and fear. Ackster could also see them looking at him and each other with regret before exchanging a look and taking up defensive positions, clearly assuming he would be hostile. They wouldn’t be wrong.

Ackster only needed their magic, not their willing cooperation. Getting someone to fight for their life would also make it easier to get them to go all out and unleash the full power of their magic on him.

Ackster walked toward the spear wielder with calm steps. The spear-wielding dragonling didn’t use magic. There was no need for him.

However, Ackster didn’t do a good job of concealing his murderous intent with a generous smile. So, the mage tossed a fireball at his feet before shouting something that Ackster guessed was an apology and a wish for him to stay away.

He met the mage’s gaze and grinned before dashing forward, utilizing Feather-Footed and his strength to reach a blinding speed that both the mage and fighter were too slow to react to when they weren’t prepared.

Ackster grabbed the spear right below its head and yanked it out of the fighter’s grasp. The dragonling tried to hold on out of instinct but couldn’t compare to Ackster’s strength and momentum, so he stumbled forward and right into Ackster’s fist.

Having two arms and hands made fighting a lot easier and smoother. Ackster’s moves connected seamlessly before either dragonling could react. And just like that, the spear-wielding dragonling was beaten to a defenseless pulp and lost his life at Ackster’s mercilessness.

Ackster tossed the lifeless corpse into his Inventory. He considered leaving traces, something like a broken foot, to reveal that they were dead and killed in action with monsters. But that would leave the possibility of a talented mage using the foot to track him down.

After killing the first dragonling, Ackster didn’t continue advancing. He stood in place and spread his arms, baring his chest. He invited the mage to attack him head-on with the spell she was preparing.

The mage’s eyes were frozen hard as she stared at Ackster like he was a monster.

Ackster felt a pang of guilt from his consciousness when he saw the reactions of the ones around his victim. But he steeled his resolve. They had invited trouble when they sicced the lava slime on him. If they had just wanted to communicate instead of being troublesome, he wouldn’t have needed to take such a drastic measure.

But if it was for the sake of remaining covert and without causing any future trouble like the Blood Moon disaster again, Ackster was willing to bear the burden of killing. He couldn’t let anything get in the way of stopping the end of the world.

So, instead of being polite and looking for mages willing to indulge his masochistic-looking tendencies, Ackster was just going to use force. He would drain the mages he encountered of their mana before moving on to the next mage.

The dragonling mage had seen how unaffected Ackster was by both the lava slime and the fireball she dropped at his feet, so she chose another type of magic that was quick and destructive. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Lightning gathered at the tip of the mage’s wand in a bulb of bright purple light before the mage unleashed a lightning bolt straight into Ackster’s chest.

’That’s a good idea. I can use Stormcaller to direct lightning at myself and then store Stormcaller in my Inventory so it doesn’t catch the lightning for me.’

Ackster barely grunted while accepting the full force of the lightning bolt with the center of his chest. He was too busy thinking about how to up his training.

The light faded and revealed a large charred blast in the center of Ackster’s chest that bared his rib cage and the singed organs inside. Blood trickled out for a moment before his wound started closing.

The dragonling mage’s eyes widened in disbelief and a trace amount of horror as she saw Ackster’s monstrous healing factor. But Ackster remained in place, still waiting for the mage to unleash more of her magic. A single spell, even if she had just fought against the lava slime, would be far from all she had.

The mage clutched her wand, desperate after remembering her companion’s meaningless death at the hands of the monster that was Ackster. She gathered her mana.

As descendants of dragons, dragonlings had naturally inherited part of their ancestor’s power. It was only a fraction, and they had to work hard to dig it up. But dragonlings were freaks of inherent nature in terms of physical strength and magic. Some were especially talented in either of the areas or both.

In terms of innate abilities and starting points, dragonlings far surpassed humans. Some dragonlings could even defeat experienced adventurers days after birth.

Ackster’s magic training dummy wasn’t one such freak. But she had enough talent in magic to take pride in herself and not only her lineage. So, she gathered more and more of the mana lying dormant within her and compressed it using her solid muscles before channeling it through her wand, concentrating it even further before unleashing magic power that stirred up a frenzied gale.

With a translucent green light, barely perceptible to the naked eye but clear as day to Ackster, the dragonling mage unleashed a series of compressed blades of wind straight at him and his limbs.

Even if he had impressive healing power, there would be a limit to what he could regenerate. After all, many monsters known for their healing factors couldn’t regenerate missing limbs, even if they recovered from all flesh wounds in a matter of minutes. And the monsters that could regenerate limbs were either so strong the dragonling mage wouldn’t be able to see them move, or they took their sweet time regenerating missing limbs.

Either the mage didn’t stand a drop of sweat’s chance in hell, or she could cripple Ackster before making a run for it.

The mage’s blades of compressed wind cut through the air without making a noise and while being invisible to the naked eye. Still, Ackster sensed them. He could have dodged if he wanted to. But that would defeat the purpose of his breakneck training. He didn’t move a muscle as he let the wind blades hit him wherever they wanted.
