Chapter 70 -70: Invitation and Formalities

Upon answering the phone, Sean asked:

“Hello, Miss Monica…”

“It’s me.” Emily was speaking on the other side, and Sean furrowed his brows slightly.

Although his relationship with Emily had improved after that meal, he still didn’t particularly like her sharp tongue.

“Hello, Miss Emily.”

“Drop the ‘miss,’ it sounds terrible. Oh, by the way, Sean, Emily and I bought a lot of ingredients today. Can you join us for a meal tonight, like last time?”

Sean immediately shook his head:

“I’m sorry, I have plans tonight.”

Emily suddenly sounded disappointed.

Monica spoke from the other side:

“Emily, stop it. I have some business to discuss.”

Then Monica took over the phone.

“Sean, I’m sorry. Emily treats you as one of us and is used to joking around. Anyway, I have a business opportunity I’d like to introduce to you. I don’t know if…”

“Go ahead.” Sean became curious, “What kind of business?”

“My father has a friend who owns a manor in the suburbs of New York. He plans to sell the manor soon.n

In the manor, there are some items that need to be dealt with, and there’s also a large safe left behind by the previous owner. He hopes to find a reliable person to handle this matter, so I recommended you…”

At this point, Monica paused for a moment, somewhat embarrassed:

“You don’t think this is looking down on you, do you? Actually, there are some good items in there. I know you probably have your channels…”

“Not at all.” Sean laughed, “Thank you for introducing this business deal to me, and thank you for considering my feelings. Sure, when and where?”

“Anytime this week; I’ll send you the address later. However, the cleaning fee isn’t that high — one thousand dollars.”

“That’s fine. I think this should satisfy my treasure hunting fun. If all goes well, I’ll go there tomorrow.”

After hanging up, Emily was not happy:

“What do we do with all the ingredients we bought?”

Monica was also a bit disappointed, but since Sean had plans, there was nothing they could do. She tried to cheer up:

“Let’s cook ourselves! There are so many tutorials online. I don’t believe we can’t make it happen—”

I never really trust those TV scenes where even the stupidest person can mix up salt and sugar while cooking. It’s just too exaggerated…”

Sean didn’t hold out much hope for making money from this business deal.

Monica had introduced him to the jadeite purchase last time, and he had benefited greatly from it. Even if he didn’t make any money this time, he could consider it as repaying a favor.

He turned to Jason and asked:

“Tomorrow, I plan to go to an outer manor to clean up the stuff there. You and your brother will be okay, right?”

Jason immediately replied:

“No problem! If you need me, I can bring both of them with me.”

“Good.” Sean nodded. It’s always good to have more hands on deck, not knowing how much stuff is in the manor.

Arriving at Jason’s cargo house, Sean saw Eiris and Malawi tidying up some used goods. They both stood straight and smiled at Sean when they saw him.

Freya was busy inside and Sean could smell she was cooking.

When the dining table was set, to Sean’s surprise, they were having noodles for lunch, similar to mixed noodles.

Freya brought out the noodles with an apologetic expression:

“I’m sorry, I could only buy macaroni noodles, so…”

“That’s fine.” Sean wasn’t too picky. When he was alone, he used to mix noodles with various stir-fried dishes.

This novel way of eating was clearly new to Jason and his brothers, and they found it very interesting.

However, apart from Jason, Eiris and Malawi didn’t know how to use chopsticks. It was quite an effort for them to use forks to roll up the noodles, and watching them made Sean want to laugh.

After eating two large plates of noodles, Sean reclined on the second-hand folding lounge chair to digest, feeling life was really good!

There was a container auction in the afternoon. After squinting for almost half an hour, Sean left for the freight yard with full energy under Jason’s reminder.

This time it was a small freight yard, with three container auctions.

Sean Knight glanced around, somewhat surprised.

Among the familiar faces, he only saw Hamilton Diaz. Mr. Madden, Diana Smith, and Elder and Little Joey were not present.

This was good news for Sean.

When he arrived, a few people were already there. Some greeted him with a smile, although he didn’t know them.

Then, as usual, he began inspecting the containers.

The contents of the first container startled Sean.

It was filled with green, living plants that seemed to have come from a hot zone.

Sean widened his eyes. He wouldn’t bet anything on this.

The second container contained even more outrageous items: a large, complicated control panel with numerous buttons and gauges.

Behind the massive panel in a box, there were two spacesuits and two large round containers.

Words printed on them let Sean know they were nitrogen cylinders—or should they be called nitrogen balloons?

There was also another piece of equipment that Sean guessed might be an engine, although it seemed a bit small, relatively speaking for an airplane.

He had to bid on this one!

Mainly because his curiosity was too strong!

The third container was covered in waterproof cloth, containing a bunch of used small cutting machines, polishers, and oil saws, none of which interested Sean.

The auctioneer had arrived, and the assistant was waiting with pliers in hand.

As no one else was coming, the auctioneer announced the start of the auction.

The assistant cut open the container, revealing the plants inside, which took the treasure hunters by surprise.

Sean shook his head after just one glance.

One minute later, the auctioneer began:

“Starting at one hundred dollars, each bid must be no less than ten dollars, now let the auction begin…”

This was a new auctioneer, but they all seemed to be trained in the same place, all using tongue-twisters and auction styles without punctuation for pauses.

Sean only bid twice at two hundred dollars before giving up.

Not many people understood these plants, so the bidding price didn’t rise quickly.

Finally, an unknown Latin American treasure hunter won the bid for thirteen hundred dollars.

Seeing the smile on his face, he must have been able to make a decent profit.

As soon as the second container was opened, everyone’s attention was immediately attracted!

This was a very rare sighting—in fact, almost no one had seen it before!

Someone whispered, “Could this be contraband?”

“There’s a NASA logo!” someone reminded.

Sure enough, everyone discovered the NASA logo on the panel.

It’s official!

However, since it could be auctioned here, there shouldn’t be a problem.

After all, they were used goods with obvious signs of use.

The auctioneer didn’t expect such items to be in this container either.

But after checking the list with the assistant, the auctioneer said:

“This container was indeed abandoned here by a NASA contractor. However, there are no confidentiality requirements, so the auction is entirely legal. Please rest assured.”

Sean couldn’t help but laugh.

He thought that the auctioneer’s way of speaking was always without pauses, but it turned out that they only do that during the auction!

After everyone had finished looking, the auctioneer resumed his familiar voice:

“Starting bid of eight hundred dollars, must increase by no less than one hundred dollars, now begin…”

Sean immediately raised his hand:

“Two thousand dollars!”

It caught several people off guard!
