Chapter 35 -35: Arguments Happen Everywhere
Sean drove his pickup truck to the address Monica had given him, and found that it was a typical standalone house with a courtyard.
Several cars were parked at the entrance, the front gate was open, and several people were moving inside.
Sean’s keen eyes spotted Monica and Emily immediately at the entrance.
He parked his car, brought his tools, and walked over to the gate, where Emily said with dissatisfaction:
“Why are you so late?”
Sean chuckled:
“Didn’t you say arrive at this time? I’m a few minutes early.”
Emily glanced at him and said nothing.
Everyone else arrived early to pick the good jade pieces.
This man, on the other hand, showed up on time. Was he not worried about missing out?
Monica smiled and said:
“Alright, all the jade has been set up inside, Sean. You can take a look and tell us what you think. We’re both novices here, so it’d be nice to learn something by following you.”
Feeling a bit guilty, Sean quickly waved his hands:
“I’m a novice too, just going by intuition.”
Emily smirked, obviously not believing him.
Sean’s financial capacity had hit 200,000. This time he brought 150,000 with him which should be enough.
In the courtyard, there were three tables, each displaying jadeite in different states: large open window, small open window, and whole gamble stones.
The large open-window pieces are those where the jadeite stone has been cut in half, revealing all the jadeite inside.
Small open-window pieces are easier to understand: a small window is opened on the rough stone, revealing a small piece of jadeite quality. These have a high level of gamble, as it’s difficult to tell what quality the jadeite might be elsewhere in the piece.
Full gamble pieces are even simpler. At a glance, they appear to be just large blocks of stone.
Whether the inside contains imperial jade of glass quality, or lower quality jadeite, depends on the buyer’s “luck”.
At this point, a man in his fifties approached them, greeted with a smile:
“Monica, is this your friend you mentioned?”
“Yes. This is Sean.” Monica introduced, ” Sean, this is my dad’s friend, Uncle Mason Arnold. These jade pieces are his.”
Mason Arnold was big and tall around 1.85 meters high, quite heavy, but spoke with a Taiwanese accent, a slightly peculiar combination.
“Ah, soon they won’t be mine anymore.” Mason seemed quite attentive to Sean. He glanced at the jadeite and sighed, “Over 20 years ago, I shipped a whole container of jadeite from Myanmar.
I thought Chinese here would like jadeite more because of Emily Taylor’s influence.
Turns out, there are people who like it, but not many carving masters. Even fewer people buy it!
I’ve had these jade pieces for many years now, but ultimately, they have to be sold. There’s a bit of reluctance…”
Sean didn’t think Mason was pretending, he felt that the man was genuinely expressing his feelings.
“So, Mister Arnold, you’re not going to stay in this line of work?”
“Not going to. No place feels like home when you’re away from it. I want to go back.” Mason’s voice trembled, “No place really feels like home…”
Sean nodded, as he also planned to go back to China in the end.
“Alright, I won’t interrupt you young folks. Take your time picking, and since Monica’s here, I’ll give you a 10% discount.”
Mason laughed and turned to entertain the other guests.
Only then did Sean notice that each stone of jadeite had a price tag on it.
They varied from several thousand to tens of thousands of dollars.
For instance, the most expensive piece was priced at 188,000 dollars, an irregular whole chunk of jadeite, about the thickness of a fist and roughly 30 centimeters in diameter.
The jadeite quality of this chunk was icy, very green.
Given the price, it was really cheap.

At first, Sean wondered why Mason didn’t sell it back on the mainland, but realized that it would be unlikely considering the current high freight costs associated with sea transport.
The energy in the courtyard was abundant, and Sean Knight could already feel the Sky Eye’s urgent desire to absorb it. So, he didn’t wait anymore and went to see the raw jade pieces with small chiseled windows.
There were the most people around the raw jade pieces with small chiseled windows. Almost everyone was holding a high-powered flashlight, shining it on the jade piece in their arms.
There were a few pieces with the most people gathered around, Sean swept over with the Sky Eye subconsciously and was immediately astonished!
Of the four most crowded small chiseled jade pieces, three were waxy or icy species or above, and their greenness was also very abundant.
These people have good eyesight!
Sean gave up on these few pieces with intense competition and came to a football-sized raw stone, which seemed to have a hint of violet. He pretended to look at it attentively.
Emily Taylor murmured following behind him:
“He clearly doesn’t understand – others won’t even look at this stone, but he directly picked it up!”
Monica Brown tugged at her, Sean pretended not to hear.
The raw jade piece was about eleven or twelve kilograms in weight. With a sweep of his eyes, Sean spotted a goose egg-sized chunk of violet jade among the other white stones in the chiseled part.
I have to admire these chisellers – they’re masterful!
“Young man, I’m afraid there’s nothing inside that piece, you might want to change it for another one!”
The speaker was an elderly man around sixty. Sean laughed and replied:
“It’s okay, I just want to examine it, learn from it.”
Sean appreciated the elder’s goodwill and responded with the same.
However, this raw stone was only priced at 2000 dollars, yet the jade inside undeniably exceeded a value of 10,000!
More importantly, the jade was full of energy, which the Sky Eye craved intensely!
This is the one!
Sean decisively carried the raw stone over to the place where he was to pay.
“You have chosen this piece?” Collecting the money was a Sikh girl who somewhat resembled Mason Arnold’s daughter.
“No, can you give me a basket? I want to pick a few more pieces.”
“Okay.” The girl replied with a smile.
Sean returned to the area of raw jade pieces with small chiseled windows. After opening his Sky Eye earlier, he had already identified three pieces that nobody had noticed but had jade inside them.
The prices were all low, so it was an ideal time to snap up a bargain.
Just at that moment, a somewhat pretentious female voice rang out:
“Monica Brown, Emily Taylor, what are you two doing here?”
Sean looked up to see a girl dressed up extravagantly like a peacock, giving a weird greeting to Monica and Emily.
Sean frowned.
He didn’t like this girl.
The girl’s appearance was passable, worth about six points.
But the makeup on her face was a bit overwhelming, it looked very similar to the type of dress-up featured on western magazine covers for Chinese girls.
It gave off an unrefined feel.
A white youth, slightly taller than Sean, stood beside the girl, squinting his eyes as he examined Monica and Emily.
Sean sighed inwardly, disharmony could break out anywhere!
Sure enough, Emily launched a comeback:
“Exactly! I can’t understand how we would find you, this plumed hen, no matter where we go?”
“What did you say?” The other girl immediately became disgruntled and was about to charge forward and pull Emily’s hair, but the white youth stopped her.
Monica also held Emily back on her side.
However, neither girl spared the other in their verbal exchanges.
Sean moved closer to Lois and Emily, fearing that they would get hurt.
The girl looked at Sean and suddenly burst into a mocking smile:
“Wow, I didn’t expect you pure types to indulge in one serving two? Hehe, how ironic!”
Sean was furious!
