Chapter 28 -28: The “Treasure Chest” at the Bottom of the Sea
Upon leaving the coffee house, Monica Brown politely asked Sean Knight where he was going. Sean thought for a while and asked:
“Is your library open to the public?”
Monica shook her head.
Emily Taylor muttered:
“Oh, trying to pretend to be studious, huh?”
Sean had already started to habitually ignore her and said:
“Then forget it, I’m leaving.”
Waving at the three ladies, Sean casually spun a pen in his hand and left gracefully.
As Sean left, the three women showed three different attitudes.
Monica was thoughtful, Emily was resentful.
Violet White smiled and remained silent.
It was clear that Sean had a crush on Monica, but he didn’t want to reveal it. It was best not to get involved any further.
This Sean Knight was not a simple guy!
Sean left the school and went to the city library.
He really intended to read some books – now that he was in the container auction business, Sean found that being a foreigner meant he knew too little.
Americans were very lenient about borrowing books from the library. Just show your driver’s license or utility bill, and you could get a library card or borrow books.
Sean set his mobile phone to vibrate. After entering, he went to the humanities section and started reading a book on history and culture.
There were many people in the library, including some children, but they were well-behaved by their parents and there was no noise.
The atmosphere for reading was similar to that in domestic libraries.
The book was interesting, but Sean hadn’t been reading for long before he felt his phone vibrate.
With no choice, he closed the book and stepped out to answer the call.
It was from Paul Walker.
“Sean, there’s been a homicide on the highway near the Port District. Three people were killed. Does this have anything to do with you?”
“No. Who died? Tod Collins?” Sean said without changing his expression.
After the shooting incident, he had experienced several things, and his mentality was now fully constructed, so he felt no psychological pressure about Paul’s questions.
I was acting in self-defense, period.
Of course, I can’t tell others this.
“Not Tod, he’s still at the police station. But his cousin, Liam, claims the killer is you.
His cousin Liam is a minor leader among Latino Americans and has a strong hatred for Chinese people, so you should be careful.”
Sean figured that Tod’s arrogance had something to do with his cousin being a minor boss.
To put an end to this, he had to take action in this area.
After hanging up with Paul, Sean continued reading his book.
It seemed that the police station hadn’t listed him as a suspect, which was normal.
Now all he had to do was act normal and not panic, so as not to expose himself by startling the snake in the grass.
After reading for more than an hour, Sean checked the time and took the book with him. Just now, the administrator had given him a mini-library card, which he could use to borrow books to read at home.
Returning to his rental place, Sean thought about the fact that it would be the weekend tomorrow and felt excited.
Looking at the time, he figured Joanna Davis would be eating, so he gave her a call.
Sure enough, Joanna’s cheerful voice with a mouthful of food came through:
“Sean, have you eaten? I’m eating now, and I’m so happy that you called me…”
Sean laughed and said:
“Tomorrow is the weekend…”

“Yes, yes! I can’t wait to see you… I really want to see you now. How about, I skip my afternoon class, and you come pick me up?”
Sean’s heart was burning.
Although he knew the importance of the main task, they were young people full of energy!
Unable to focus on reading anymore, he headed to the school.
Picking up Joanna, Sean went straight to an inn, where the two of them spent their time together until nightfall.
Joanna lay softly on the bed and asked Sean:
“Sean, I feel like you were much better this time than last time…”
Sean still hadn’t had enough. He knew it might have something to do with the energy he had absorbed from the jadeite, and he laughed and said:
“I wasn’t experienced last time. Now that I’m more familiar with you, aren’t we better coordinated? Want to go again?”
Although Joanna was already somewhat overwhelmed, she didn’t want to admit defeat and seductively responded:
“Bring it on!”
As a result, they couldn’t get out of bed.
They even ate their meals in the inn.
Early the next day, Sean took Joanna back to school and went to the seaside himself.
Mr. John called, saying there was a salvage ship in the port that had recovered five containers that had fallen into the sea and that they were planning to auction them off today. He asked if Sean was interested.
Sean naturally was.
Mr. John also gossiped about the three people who had been shot dead, saying that the police station had classified it as a revenge killing and that they were currently investigating the families of Latino American gangs.
Sean knew that the case would probably be dropped in the end.
Upon finding the boat, Sean went aboard and discovered there were already more than a dozen people on it.
The only familiar face was Mr. Madden’s, and Sean laughed.
How did this old man always show up everywhere?
Old Mr. Madden was equally surprised when he saw Sean and asked:
“Sean, are you here too?”
Sean nodded and pointed at the rusty containers and asked:
“Are these them?”
“Yes,” Madden sighed and said, “It looks like nothing good can come out of them. Even if there were something valuable inside, I’m afraid it would have been ruined by the seawater.”
Looking down, Sean saw that the containers were indeed leaking water.
But he didn’t quite believe what he heard.
Old Madden has always been like this, misleading people. This time was no different.
As old Madden went to talk to others, Sean was puzzled but soon understood the situation when he heard others asking where the containers came from. He suddenly realized!
Mr. John had mentioned that the containers came from Dubai!
Dubai, where sports cars were everywhere, and the city was full of wealthy people!
Could the goods flowing from there not be valuable?
And it couldn’t be that everything got soaked in water, right?
It was very likely that old Madden had also learned the news, and he was now trying to eliminate potential competitors.
Sure enough, two people who listened to old Madden claimed, “It’s better to go check the containers at the freight yard!”
After saying this, they left!
Sean didn’t know if these two were working with Madden or had left for real.
However, the others were not fools, and after some hesitation, they stayed.
Sean took the opportunity to approach the containers, ready to take a closer look and see if there was anything valuable inside.
