Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 384: Just A Bunch of Weird Old Men
For anyone else, it would be fine for Sheva to act almighty, trying to make himself look important with the excuse of a tight schedule. However, he couldn’t do that for this occasion. Wahyu Satyawan, the CEO of BNI, who was also his generous sponsor, his sugar daddy, he might even say, asked to meet him, so no matter what happened, he had to go.
Both Bagas and Sarah also understood this. That was why they moved so quickly, and the moment Sheva was ready to go, they flew immediately to the main office of BNI, where the meeting would be held. There, the moment they arrived, Mrs. Dina, Mr. Wahyu’s secretary, had already waited for them.
"Come in! The boss has been waiting for you!" The woman said shortly, not even greeting or congratulating Sheva. Then, she paused for a second, turning to Sheva before giving a nod of approval. "Good job, remembering to wear that suit. It will give everyone the look that you are appreciating our support."
For that, Sheva froze instantly. "Everyone?" He parroted the word stupidly.
"Yes, everyone. Hasn’t Sarah said anything about it?" Dina asked, still with the same flat tone, not even slowing down to let Sheva comprehend everything. "We are going to meet Mr. Wahyu and his closest friends, who are also his business partners for the last few decades. Sarah’s grandfather is also one of them, so she should’ve told you about that, right?"
Sheva snapped his head instantly at the couple behind him, just to find out that they tried to avoid his gaze sheepishly. It seemed that they knew about it beforehand, yet either they completely forgot or deliberately did not tell him so that he wouldn’t worry too much about it.
"Goddamnit, Gas! I will make you pay for this!" He cursed out loud.
"Don’t worry, my grandpa is there. He will not make things difficult for you." Sarah said, trying to reassure her friend.
Well, this was also one thing that surprised Sheva here. He knew that Sarah’s family was wealthy, yet this was the first time he had heard about their status. For her grandfather to befriend a high-level CEO like this, their identity should be far from ordinary, right?
The meeting was at the office on the 22nd floor, probably the first time Sheva went so high in a building. He was quite anxious, starting to imagine how the meeting would go. In his mind, an image was formed of how he would be scrutinized by so many higher-ups, and the seriousness in the meeting would kill him slowly. However, what he imagined seemed to be far from the truth, as right in front of the door, he could hear shouts and insults fly wildly inside the room.
"Fuck! How did you find that move?!"
"Ha! Wahyu, I told you that you are still a piece of shit! No matter how much you studied, you will never be able to win against me!"
"Arrogant! Let me show you my true strength!"
"Hey, it is my turn now!"
Sheva was dumbfounded, while both Sarah and Mrs. Dina were deadpanned when they heard that. Bagas himself just chuckled, as if expecting that they would stumble upon this kind of scene.
"Just... Ignore them." Mrs. Dina sighed helplessly, opening the door before letting out her best ’stern mother’ impression. "Mr. Wahyu! Mr. Budi! Mr. William! Mr. Arsya! Are you gambling with money again?! Are you not afraid that I will tell your wife about this?! Let me see how you all handle them!"
Right after that, all the old men in the room froze instantly, and Sheva couldn’t help but choke, trying his best to hold back his laughter. Those men here were probably some of the richest people in the country, and the boy was sure that one word from them would be enough to shake the country’s economy in a second. However, here they were, gathering around goofily while playing chess, as if they were just a bunch of old men on the street market.
"Grandpa... Are you gambling with money again?" Sarah, who noticed the stack of money on the table, narrowed her eyes dangerously, and one of the men there just chuckled awkwardly, as if he were just a mere boy getting caught stealing cookies from the jar. "I will tell Mom and Nana about this!" She declared, making the man’s pupils dilate in shock and fright.
"No, Dear! Don’t bother your mother and your nana! Come here! Oh, you are with your boyfriend as well! Do you want to buy candies or something sweet?" He said hurriedly, trying to bribe his granddaughter from being a tattletale.
"Bah! Bribing your granddaughter with candies?! Arsya, you are such a cheap skate!" One of the old men retorted mockingly.
"What do you know?! The candies’ price is about 1 million, you know?!" Sarah’s grandfather, the man named Arsya, answered heatedly. "Also, don’t think that I don’t remember how you bribed your grandson with a trip to Bali a month ago so that he didn’t say anything about you going out for golfing!"
"That’s a month ago! Don’t confuse it with the current situation!"
"Bah! You are the first one who does that!"
"You want a fight, huh?!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
If before, Sheva was just dumbfounded, now he was flabbergasted, too speechless to say anything. Gone was all the image of a bunch of old men controlling the country’s economy with the villainous laugh in their heads. All those things were shattered into pieces, replaced by this ridiculous circus in front of him.
’Yeah, as the wise man said, never meet your hero, huh?’ Sheva chuckled wryly.
"Okay, okay, no need to make a fuss again like that!" Mrs. Dina raised her voice once again, stopping the bickering instantly. Honestly, Sheva had to give the woman a hat’s off. She acted more like a mother, a nanny to this bunch of old men, instead of just a mere secretary. "Also, Mr. Wahyu, your guest is already here! Don’t you think that it is rude for you to ignore him like that?" She glanced at Sheva, giving the people inside a subtle signal here.
The moment all the attention fell on Sheva’s though, one person suddenly had his eyes lit up immediately, rising from the sofa before approaching him enthusiastically. "Oh, so you are finally here? Come and sit with us! Let us hear your glorious deeds in Chennai!"
