Rivers of the Night-Chapter 280: Stop
Chapter 280: Stop
‘The feeling… it’s the same…’
Theron realized why he was so sure not long after. In the Secret Realm of the Luminescent Moon Sect, he had felt a resonance with the moons. The blue ones felt closer to him, while the violet ones felt further away somehow.
This stone jade gave him the same feeling of closeness as the blue moons did. In fact, it was the same feeling as the ones closest to him.
But what Theron didn’t understand was why this stone would be here.
‘Is this what the Cadence of the Crypt is looking for? But that feels…’
Theron felt like he was missing something quite big. While this would explain what the old man was after, it brought up more questions than not.
The Luminescent Moon Sect was obviously related to all of this, but the old man had always seemed entirely uninterested in Theron’s information on the Sect.
Although Theron had manipulated him by giving him information on it, leading to the eventual clash between those three powerhouses, the old assassin had never tried to weed that information out of Theron personally.
‘Could it be that… he’s just not aware of the connection between the moons and the Luminescent Moon Sect? Or is it that they just haven’t realized that this stone is related to the moons yet?’
It seemed like the latter made more sense. Maybe even Theron wouldn’t realize what this stone jade was unless he had felt that push and pull in the Luminescent Moon Sect’s Secret Realm.
‘Daggers of the Night… the Luminescent Moon Sect… what is the correlation…?’
Theron was beginning to wonder if he would have to take the risk to return to the Sect at some point soon. He wondered… what did the Patriarch know?
After some thought, Theron stored the stone jade with himself. He couldn’t find anything special about it other than the fact it reminded him of the moon. Whatever effects it had would be far weaker than what he had experienced in the Secret Realm.
‘I’ll leave for now and return once I’ve gathered the materials I need. I’ll also have to find time to scout the situation in this branch itself so I know what I’m getting myself into by releasing all of them.’
Theron had wasted a lot of time between making it through the maze outside and undoing this hidden compartment. If he spent any more time here, his absence might be noticed.
What he didn’t expect was to feel something the moment he stepped out.
…
Theron had only just appeared beneath the moonlight, prepared to dodge any spatial storms that might come his way, when he felt the vibrations at his chest.
He hadn’t stored the stone jade away in a spatial device, not sure whether it would destroy it or not—the spatial device, to be specific. But the heat that came from his hidden pocket was too immediate to dismiss.
Spreading his senses out, he took the stone jade out of his pocket.
WHOOSH.
The rush of wind came fast, but Theron realized that it was little more than an illusion. No, not an illusion, but instead not real wind.
Rather than wind, it was more like he had suddenly felt his scope of Mana sensory capability vastly increasing. A resonating hum formed between himself and the moon high above, and he felt his cultivation speed increasing.
‘… What?’
The feeling was so intoxicating that Theron almost leaned into it before he managed to snap himself out of that state.
He had just been about to try and see if he could store the stone jade away when his blood suddenly began to boil.
A mixture of heat and cold lashed out, churning within him. But rather than making him feel uncomfortable, it felt more like a feeling of intoxication, almost like a massage wrapping through him.
The heat felt more like a heated lust, and the cold felt more like a refreshing drink of ice-cold tea on a hot summer’s day.
They played off of one another until…
The stone jade suddenly vanished into Theron’s body.
Theron trembled from head to toe, his Mana soaring, but then compressing in on itself. It almost felt as though he was being suppressed, and yet growing tens of times stronger at the very same time.
Then he felt it… his Water Resonance progressing from Lower Manaborn to Middle Manaborn.
Theron felt like it wanted to progress further, but he also felt a defiance deep within him. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
He didn’t like this. He didn’t like it one bit.
His comprehension was his own. There had always been something about Bloodline Resonances that left a bad taste in his mouth, and after feeling the importance of emotions and how it tied to Mana control, he was even more certain of it.
Theron had always taken his own path. No one but him would have taken the route of the Blue Pufferfish like he had.
It was ironic that he said he was growing arrogant, when in reality just these sorts of actions themselves proved that he had long been. Only someone who had absolute confidence in themselves to a fault would dare to do what he had done.
And right now, Theron felt like he was at such a crossroads.
Relying on whatever blood ran through him to upgrade his Resonance sounded so appealing. And honestly speaking, Theron had never cared about his foundation. He just wanted enough strength to get revenge for his parents.
But just days ago, he had felt pressure from a little maid of the Black Clan who married into an inferior Gold Clan. If the cap of this world was really just Gold Mancy like the old man said, Theron was approaching it too quickly.
He needed to excavate out his strength in other ways if he wanted to make that man pay.
And this… this was not the way.
“Stop.”
His voice was a mixture of cold and heat, as deep as an abyss, and yet as resonating as a bell.
The energy of the stone jade was suffocated into silence.
