(Pov Riser Phenex.) (Romani Archaman)
"It's been a few years, right? Romani?" said Marisbury Animusphere, with a smile on his lips.
"You see, Romani, you made a big meeting with a certain girl named Miyu Emiya. She was looking for you. If it weren't for me forwarding her information to you, she would have found someone dangerous, and that would have been the end for her." Marisbury said, lowering the wine glass gently from his lips.
"Thank you very much. I was in a period of transition and travels. I had even forgotten about her. I'm sorry to interrupt us and get straight to the point. The time has come, Marisbury. I will take the position related to doctor at Chaldea. I left everything on your shoulders, and now it's time to help with the programming of the entire FATE system. We will be able to make the first summon this year for a servant. I also want to request a position for Artoria, Gray, and Miyu." I affirm to Marisbury what I want from him.
"Alright, but for Gray and Miyu, I have some tasks for assistants. As for Artoria, I already created a profile for her, along with a new name. Her name will be Maria Archaman. Although I had already sent this document to you before, but for some reason, you lost them..." Marisbury affirmed, who had to clear Artoria's traces along the way. Romani (Riser) used a bit of mental manipulation to go where he wanted. Fortunately, as a devil, he had teleportation magic.
Marisbury finished talking, and silence filled the space between us. He had become a chess player in the shadows, moving pieces so calculatedly that even I, who had been at the center of many plots, couldn't see all his moves. I looked at him for a moment, evaluating the man who had once been my acquaintance and, in a way, a friend. But now, he seemed more like an adversary.
"So, Maria Archaman?" I said, crossing my arms and leaning on the soft leather chair. "Do you really think that will be the name Artoria will use? She would never accept being someone else."
Marisbury smiled, as if he already knew my response. "Romani, or should I call you Riser now? Artoria is a relic from another time. The name Maria is a door to the future, a way to hide her true identity and protect her. You understand, don't you?"
I sighed. Of course, I understood. But that didn't mean I liked the idea. I looked out the window, seeing the distant hills of Chaldea's property, with the afternoon sun tinting the sky a soft orange. In another life, perhaps I could have simply refused, but in this one... I had responsibilities.
"Artoria was never just a piece on someone's board," I said, my voice lower, almost a whisper. "She is a queen, a king, a legend. No matter the name you give her, her essence will always remain."
Marisbury didn't seem shaken. He took another sip of wine, with the calmness of someone who had seen the world fall and rise more than once. "That is exactly why she needs this disguise. Chaldea will be our next battlefield, and we can't afford to have legends walking around without a veil of protection."
I nodded, knowing that despite everything, Marisbury was right. We were no longer on the Fuyuki battlefield, or in the ruins of Camelot. This was a new world, and we needed to adapt. But there was something else that was bothering me.
"As for Miyu..." I started, but he raised his hand, interrupting me before I could finish.
"Miyu is already being taken care of," he said, his tone more severe now. "She is still a child but possesses power you can't even imagine. We are training her, molding her potential for something greater. The truth, Romani, is that Miyu's destiny is beyond your control."
Those words hit me like a punch. I always believed that, somehow, I could protect her, that it was my responsibility to guide her to a safe path. But Marisbury was showing me another reality — one where I didn't have control over everything.
"I am her older brother. I want to be an important part of her training, regardless of her magical capabilities," I affirmed to Marisbury with vehemence, and he smiled at me.
"You will have to teach specific people we've selected, along with Mash. I hope that's not too much," Marisbury said, and amidst my anger, while I wasn't using my perception abilities, I was falling into one of his traps.
"Urgh... you planned this, didn't you? You want me to teach your daughter along with potential friends. Don't tell me you're going to bring all of Waver Velvet's students to us?" I asked Marisbury.
"I already brought them. They are all here with my daughter. I listened to what you said about mending our alliance. You were right. I was just pushing her away," Marisbury said with finality and a smile.
Getting up, I said, "Very well. Besides being Chaldea's head doctor, I will be everyone's teacher. I hope I can teach them properly." I affirmed as I left the room, with an audible sigh.
