Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 172. Ancient History
Chapter 172: Chapter 172. Ancient History
Amon waited until the door mechanism completed its sequence. Once the door slid all the way into the wall, the rumbling stopped. Silence returned. Amon stayed still as he focused his hearing from the now-revealed opening. No sound. It was complete darkness beyond the open door.
He picked up one of the debris on the ground and threw it into the opening. He heard the debris hitting the floor and bouncing a few times.
No traps.
He then approached the door. He remained fully alert at all times. He extended one of his hands through the opening. When nothing happened, he took his first step inside. He paused. He had taken all the precautions. It was time to take a leap of faith. He entered the room.
It was a room not as large as the great hall he came from. The limited light provided by the bright flare stone in his hand was enough to illuminate the entire place. It was an enclosed room. The door he came in from was the only entrance and exit. He saw several pedestals in the room.
He looked around the room and saw signs of remains that this room’s wall used to be lined with pedestals, but most of them were broken already. Only five remained intact. The wall was again full of carvings of murals. Each panel was behind one pedestal.
When he was about to approach the pedestal, Li Shi’s voice came from the jade stone again, "Student Lin Mo. How are you doing? Have you reached the bottom? What do you find?"
’I guess I can’t continue delaying this,’ Amon thought.
"I am inside a great hall. Wait, I think I see something on the walls here," Amon said. He walked out into the great hall again.
He stopped right after passing the door, seeing if the door would close once he exited. It didn’t. He then walked to where the wall still had mostly intact murals. While walking, he described the mural he saw at the back of the podium. The one which depicted Heaven, earth, and hell. He had no problem remembering the details of that mural without looking at it.
"Fascinating. It is a carving illustrating the upper world, the lower world, and our world." He heard Li Shi’s remark after he finished describing the mural. Amon remembered the upper world was what the people in this world referred to as the world cultivators who had reached the Demigod level ascend to. As for the lower world, that must be the prison dimension the ancient cultivators had created to lock the ones who had turned into demons.
"This meant this place used to be a spiritual place. Good! This kind of place usually keeps records of the past!" Li Shi continued excitedly. "See if you can find any other information!"
Amon was already studying the murals on the wall. He was currently frowning. "Tutor Li Shi, the history lesson you told us in class about the first time humans learned the profound way and about the first demon. How accurate is the source?"
"That story was deciphered from a stone tablet another country dug up from the ruins in their territory. Why?" Li Shi asked.
"So, you only heard of it from the other countrymen’s mouths?" Amon asked.
"No. There was a gathering of scholars from every country in Aetheria. The stone tablet was presented there for everyone to study. I laid my eyes on it, and my deciphering on the tablet was the same as the others, which was what I’ve taught you all in my history class. Why is that? What do you find?"
Amon informed him that he was currently looking at a series of murals. It was divided into several panels. The panels, when viewed in sequence, told a story. It was like a storybook that only had drawings and no text, but Amon had no problem interpreting the story behind these murals.
It was the story about the first time humans learned the profound way. The story was largely the same as what Li Shi had taught in class. It was a deity beast who taught humans the way to manipulate aether and used it to strengthen their bodies. The deity beast in this mural was depicted as a large bird with six pairs of beautiful wings.
Everything was the same as in Li Shi’s class except when it came to the first demon. In these murals, the first demon was also the second son of the human’s leader. However, the story here did not show him as an individual filled with negative emotions. He was instead shown with a happy face after succeeding in modifying his cultivation art. Not only that, but his father was also by his side, smiling and hugging him. It was instead the first son, who was drawn with an angry face in that panel.
The story largely diverged after that point. It was shown that the first son started plotting against his brother, most probably angered because the second son had stolen his spotlight. With a scheme, the first son poisoned the human leader and laid the blame on the second son.
He and his followers then went on a hunt for the second son. The second son took his group and fled. The deity beast who had just returned found out about what had happened. It went and chased after the two groups, who were locked in a confrontation by the time it arrived. The deity beast stopped the fighting but couldn’t bring it upon itself to punish the first son for his scheme. It also knew it couldn’t prevent the two groups from continuing the bloodshed.
Out of its love for the human, the deity beast decided to sacrifice itself and let its life force create a new world. The second son led his followers into this new world. The spirit of the deity beast locked this world, preventing both sides from interfering with one another, thus ending the conflict.
