Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Moving Houses

He was very patient. Without knowing when they would be back, he had just sat there and waited. But she didn’t find the situation too bizarre, after all, the original book talked about how assistant Yao idolized Lu Zhen even after the apocalypse had been ongoing for years. He never, even once thought of betraying his boss. Such loyalty was hard to come by and she appreciated such a helper beside her husband.

The three men moved the supplies in the truck while Leng Pan remained standing next to the truck to guard against anyone who might get funny ideas about reaping where they did not sow.

It was not an unfounded worry as Lu Tao had already warned them about a few people who felt that they had been bringing a lot of stuff back and they should share with others as if they helped when killing the zombies or collecting the supplies.

Leng Pan, of course, didn’t take this seriously. She was sure that as long as she wielded a gun those people would tuck their tails between their legs and not dare to come close. Nevertheless, it was still better to be careful.

It took some time for the three to finish moving all the supplies from the truck to their apartment. The living room was almost filled to the brim with raw materials and also a few finished products.

"Boss, when can you we move today or should we wait until you have rested?" Assistant Yao asked as soon as they sat down after going back into the apartment.

"What moving?" Leng Pan asked when she heard the question. What did he mean by moving now or to wait until they had rested?

"Madam, I am moving into this building so that I can be closer to the boss. I am worried about always leaving my mother alone when I go out to look for supplies. So, I wanted to move here. That way, I can be in the same team with the boss, and I won’t have to worry about my mother anymore." Assistant Yao explained as soon as Leng Pan raised the question.

He was aware that the lady was his boss’ bottom line. He had to show her utmost respect, even more than the old madam.

His boss had no vices such as drinking, smoking, or whoring, but he was super obsessed with his wife. So, as the most capable assistant, he knew what to say and what not to say and also how to behave around certain people.

That was why no matter what question Leng Pan asked, he would answer honestly.

"That’s good, Auntie is alone whenever you go out and doesn’t have anyone to talk to. Some people may take advantage of this too and start using her loneliness as a basis to take advantage of her.

But if she is here, she could talk to my mom and auntie. She won’t be lonely. By the way, did you leave her alone at home?" Leng Pan suddenly remembered that assistant Yao’s mother was the only relative he had. If she wasn’t with him at that moment, then she must be alone at home.

"Yes, for the past few days, I have been going out to search for supplies and I usually leave her alone. I didn’t tell her I was coming here today, therefore, she must think that I am out looking for supplies today as well." Assistant Yao explained.

"Guys, come and eat. Yao, you can go back and start moving after you have lunch. Since you have been here for hours, you must be hungry. Go wash your hands and let’s eat." Uncle Li suggested as he brought several dishes from the kitchen to the dining table.

He had heated up a few dishes leftover from before and cooked fresh rice and some tender bok choy.

The bok choy were planted by auntie Li in the balcony and watered using water mixed with spiritual spring water. They were sweet and could restore energy.

Assistant Yao was surprised to see such bright green on the plate in front of him. To him, that was not a surprise but a shock. It has been a while since they had cooked any green that was bright in their house. One could see that it was freshly picked but the greens they had been eating recently were frozen vegetables.

Even things like mushrooms, they had to eat the dried ones that needed to be soaked in hot water before cooking to tenderize them.

In fact, assistant Yao could already understand that soon, the world would even run out of the frozen and dried vegetables and they wouldn’t be able to eat greens anymore.

So, when he saw the bright green bok choy on his plate, he couldn’t believe it.

Lu Zhen seemed to be able to read his mind and answered his unasked question.

"My aunt awakened the wood element superpower, she can grow plants." It was a short and straightforward statement but assistant Yao understood what was happening.

He had not expected superpowers to be so useful and convenient. He could guarantee that perhaps, for the next few months before the government found a way to grow crops in the post-apocalyptic world, some people would not see a single green color in their plate.

His mother had lived in the countryside before, and such people preferred organic food. The last couple of weeks had been hard on his mother but they had to be grateful they had any food to begin with. Thus, his mother couldn’t complain about her diet when food itself was becoming scarce.

The family and assistant Yao soon finished their meal and Lu Zhen took his brother and followed Yao back to his community a distance away. They took the truck so that it could fit any items that needed to be moved.

When they walked into his apartment, assistant yao found his mother talking to a woman who was asking if she could spare two packets of instant noodles for her. The woman claimed to have a sick son and just wanted something to cook for him before her husband went out to look for food.
