Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 150: Can’t Quit
Marcus paused before he responded.
"I’m a drug trafficker."
Katherine stared at him as if he were joking. Of all the things she thought he was doing, she didn’t know drug trafficking would be his illegal job.
"What do you mean by drug trafficking? You mean to tell me that all the money you got is from doing something like that?" She questioned, unsure of how she should feel about this information.
The first time she’d met Marcus, he was a gym coach and he’d pursued his career as a gym coach only for him to end up as a drug trafficker.
It didn’t make any sense to her.
Unlike her, who was a runaway and couldn’t get any job talk more of fending for herself, he had more opportunities of acquiring a better job.
"What happened to your license as a gym coach?" She questioned.
"Did you think that I would be able to earn enough money to buy a house and a car as a gym coach?" He questioned back. "After everything we did, after everything you did, did you think that everything would be easy for me once again?"
Katherine parted her lips to speak but no words came out.
She admits she’d dragged Marcus along to her downfall, but he still had more chances than she.
"This is what I do now. I sell illegal drugs to people and that’s how I earn the money to fend for our family."
Katherine took a deep breath. She admits she’d done several terrible things, but it was only to get rid of a potential enemy.
Drug dealing was manageable compared to other illegal activities she’d heard of, but Marcus was still the father of her children.
His safety was much more important than any money he would bring to the table.
"You mentioned quitting. Is that still possible?" She asked.
Marcus couldn’t help but scoff.
"You heard him. The boss wouldn’t be happy if I quit. I’m already too deep in into this and there’s no turning back. The only way out is to run away."
Katherine’s eyebrows furrowed deeply into a worried arch.
"But don’t worry. Nothing will happen to our family," he assured. "We just need to run away."
"We can’t run away now. I haven’t gotten my revenge on Eva yet. If we run away now, I might never come back."
Marcus stared at Katherine as if she’d gone mad.
"And what’s more important to you? Leaving and keeping our family safe, or wasting your time and energy avenging on someone who can kill you and feed your body to the dogs?"
Katherine’s eyes twitched as she remembered the time Eva had pointed a gun at her. She praised her bravery for not pissing her pants, but she was certainly terrified.
However, she’d already made up her mind to make Eva pay for what she did to her. Because of Eva, she’d become a nobody in her city.
Katherine didn’t voice her thoughts and simply stared at Marcus. She guessed that if she did, he wouldn’t buy her explanation and could make them vanish that day. She couldn’t risk that.
"You’re right," she admitted. "I’m being foolish."
Marcus’s shoulders dropped in relief.
"I’ll start making plans so we can leave as soon as possible."
Katherine only acknowledged his words with a quick dip of her head while plotting her own plans in her mind.
Dante had already been discharged from the hospital but he was given several instructions so as not to stress himself out and end up back in the hospital once again.
Nevertheless, he paid little mind to the doctor’s words as he tried to find out where his father was.
He’d given up and decided to wait for the old man to contact him first, but he didn’t make any move yet, leaving him with no choice but to search despite knowing full well all effort would be for naught.
The hideout was almost empty. Rico had been dealing with some personal problems and Dante wouldn’t want to trouble him with his.
Dante checked the time, his eyes nearly popping out of their sockets when he saw the time and the number of calls he’d missed.
It was 7:30pm, two missed calls from Rhea. He’d gotten her a phone recently so she could contact him whenever he wasn’t home. One from Mylo. Mylo was still rubbing his butt all over his couch since the day they rescued Rhea without making any attempts to leave for his own home.
Not that Dante was complaining. At least, there was someone to keep Rhea company while he was away from work.
However, these missed calls from these people weren’t what got his heart skipping a beat. It was Eva’s. Eight missed calls in the past hour.
Dante jerked upright, pain shooting through his injury.
He swallowed it as he placed Eva on the call and headed out of the hideout.
Surprisingly, Eva picked at the first ring.
"Hey!!" He said as the call connected. "I’m sorry I missed your call. Did you want to say something?" He rubbed the back of his head as time ticked, accompanied by Eva’s heavy silence.
Eva took a deep breath before she responded.
"Where are you?" She demanded, her tone on edge.
"I’m actually heading home now."
Again, there was another silence.
"Didn’t the doctor say you should focus on resting? You’ve not completely recovered and you’re stressing yourself already." She sighed at the end like a frustrated wife which brought a smile to Dante’s lips. "I should have known you wouldn’t listen to the doctor."
"How about you come over to the house and keep a close eye on me? I don’t mind at all if you watch me 24/7." And once again, there was silence. "Wanna have dinner over at my place?"
"Dante..."
"Since I can’t take you out for now, it’s going to be a little date, my love."
The silence stretched longer this time around while Dante’s heart beat fast like a teenager who was asking his crush for a dance.
"A little date it is," she responded.
