Chapter 28: Shadows of the Past

As the days of the release approached, the casts of both dramas were appearing on various programs and variety shows to promote their dramas.

This time, AxisPlay was investing resources to promote and publicize their drama, something they usually didn’t do.

However, they still fell short when compared to The Insiders’ promotions.

Dragon Films was sparing no effort in marketing their drama as the upcoming blockbuster of the year. Everywhere, you could see banners and ads for The Insiders.

Anyone who watched television or used the internet would undoubtedly be aware of The Insiders’ release.

Meanwhile, AxisPlay was modest, paling in comparison by a great margin.

The cast was doing most of the marketing instead of AxisPlay.

Leon and Gisha were guest-starring on variety programs to market their drama.

Aren, however, was conspicuously absent.

When he had signed the contract, he had put a condition that he wouldn’t join others to publicize the drama.

He believed that an actor should stay mysterious instead of overexposing themselves to the audience.

If anyone wanted to see him, then they could go and watch his drama.

Theon, on the other hand, could be seen everywhere, accompanying Ryan Black and Luna Veil. In most of the reality shows, he was being given more importance than even the leads.

His fan pages constantly shared edits of his appearances on these shows, captioning ’The next superstar!’

Simultaneously, having nothing better to do, Aren decided to check on his daughter’s well-being. He wanted to know how she was doing after he died.

Did Neil reveal the truth to her?

Or did he pretend to adopt her as a kind uncle?

He couldn’t wait to find out.

Currently, he was staying in the same hotel in which he stayed during the shooting of To Your Heart’s second season. The other cast members and the crew had already left; however, he didn’t wish to return to that cramped, rundown apartment in Lobera City.

Moreover, this hotel was in the entertainment city of the country—Blemure City.

It was the same city in which most of the entertainment agencies and shooting studios were located.

His previous house as the CEO of Titan Crest Entertainment was also here.

In scale and population, Blemure could rival a small nation, and it was known as the entertainment capital of the country.

Wearing his mask and cap, he called for a cab through his mobile app.

First, he visited his house, since that was the only place he expected to find his daughter at.

However, when he reached the house, it was deserted—almost abandoned. His sports car collection was also nowhere to be seen. Bodyguards had also disappeared, leaving only a single security guard.

He left the taxi to approach the security guard.

The security guard was only armed with a baton, nothing else, and currently, he was reclining on his chair without a care in the world, suppressing weary yawns.

Noticing Aren approach, he frowned: "What is it?"

"What happened to the residents of this place?" Aren inquired. "I’m a childhood friend of Ariana Frost."

Ariana was his daughter’s name, but he normally called her Aria.

"They don’t live here anymore. They have put this house on sale."

The guard seemed agitated while answering, trying to shoo Aren away.

Even though Aren was shocked, he still maintained a composed facade.

He had expected this outcome but still hoped for a different answer.

Knowing that the guard wouldn’t have any answers to his questions, Aren turned around and left.

His next destination was Neil Valcourt’s mansion.

Being the CEO and owner of a talent agency were two entirely different things. Neil’s wealth was much greater than that of Aren’s previous self.

His mansion was surrounded by a garden and smaller houses standing beside it, some serving as guesthouses and some as private quarters for his children.

Lastly, his mansion was fully enclosed by walls, not letting anyone peek or sneak inside.

Even Aren could solely stare at the outer gate, guarded by multiple guards.

Sitting in the taxi, he had multiple ideas to deal with this predicament.

At first, he thought of hiring a private detective to dig up all the information he needed but then dropped the idea.

The catch was—a private detective could betray him for money.

If he decided to tell Neil that someone was paying to dig up information about him, Aren’s existence would be exposed before he desired to.

Next, he thought of buying his own car to keep an eye on the gate himself; however, he dropped this idea as well.

Buying a car was easy, but getting a driver’s license would take time.

For now, he decided to just sit in the cab and surveil the entrance discreetly. Maybe he could catch a glimpse of Ariana going in or out of the house.

As for the taxi, he just paid the driver some extra money to sit quietly and scroll through his phone.

For most of the time, the gate remained motionless.

It was only in the afternoon that a luxurious satin-black car arrived, approaching the gates.

His eyes widened, noticing the two girls sitting inside.

One was Ariana and the other was Neil’s youngest daughter, a girl of the same age as Ariana.

A sharp pang of pain gripped his chest as he noticed the expression on her face—hollow and somber.

It was as if she didn’t have any joy in life.

’But what is she doing with Selene at this time of the day? She should be returning from her own college.’

Aren thought, frowning in confusion.

Selene was the name of Neil’s youngest daughter, who was studying in a different college than Ariana.

Ariana attended a hotel management college while Selene was pursuing an entertainment management course at Neil’s own university.

Neil forced all his children to pursue a career in entertainment management to help his agency grow, and his children were happy to follow his wishes, as only someone of that career path could inherit his agency.

’Don’t tell me that bastard forced Aria to change her career as well.’

His eyes widened as that realization hit him. His jaw tightened with fury as he watched Ariana’s car enter the mansion.

After the gates closed, he sighed and tiredly told the driver to leave. For now, he had gotten the information he needed about his daughter.

On the way back to his hotel, his mind was jolted by a bolt of inspiration, enlarging his pupils.

’Wait... What if I join the same university as Ariana?’

Soon, a sly smile tugged at his lips, forming a plan in his head.
