Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 289 - 287: Lin Xi Teaches Xue Yang Skincare
Zhong Hailan knew of that girl, Xue Xing. She just never had the chance to meet her. She happened to be out on business on Valentine’s Day and hadn’t expected to miss the opportunity because of it. To be honest, she felt she should thank the girl in person. After all, it was thanks to her that Xiao Yang had been able to get into Yanbei University.
This kid, Xue Yang, was good in every way, just too stubborn. Once he set his mind on something, he would see it through to the bitter end. He seemed to have persisted for many years, yet the girl had never agreed. Zhong Hailan didn’t know why she had come to visit this time.
"Auntie, you aren’t thinking of meeting that older sister, are you? She’s my cousin-in-law’s sister, you know."
Zhong Hailan was surprised for a moment, then recalled that this was indeed the case.
"We’ll have a chance to meet eventually."
Xue Xing thought about it and agreed. When her cousin and cousin-in-law get married, the beautiful older sister will surely be there. Then she’ll get to see her, right?
Zhong Hailan went back to sharpening her knife to kill the chickens.
It wasn’t until after 5 p.m. that all the chickens were done cooking. Xue Xing cheerfully went home with two chicken legs.
Wait, I was supposed to borrow books today, wasn’t I? With that thought, she turned back, went to the second floor, and grabbed two books.
Ms. Zhong Hailan had already packed all the salt-baked chickens.
"Lao Xue, it’s getting late. Hurry up and mail the chickens. You’ll have just enough time to get back for dinner."
"Alright."
In the living room, Xue Yuanqing turned off the TV and put down the remote. He then went to the kitchen, loaded the entire box of salt-baked chicken into the car, and drove to the courier station.
「...」
Xue Yang went back to sleep, not waking up again until after one in the afternoon. He washed up briefly, ate a bowl of noodles downstairs, and then headed to his studio. Since he went in late, it was already past nine o’clock by the time he returned home.
Lin Xi had just finished her class. It had become a habit for her to video call Xue Yang as soon as she returned to her dorm. Sometimes Xue Yang was at the company, and other times at his studio, so it wasn’t always convenient to talk. For that reason, he tried to get home as quickly as possible unless he had something urgent to attend to. Only at home could they have their own private time, completely undisturbed.
Lin Xi had already changed into a comfortable loungewear set. She was sitting at her vanity, doing her skincare routine while on a video call with Xue Yang. He hadn’t seen the loungewear she was wearing before; it must be new. It was pure white, which made her skin look dewy and lustrous—like a freshly peeled egg, so tempting you wanted to take a bite. The top had a crisscross design that perfectly accentuated her cleavage. It was subtly revealing, leaving much to the imagination.
Xue Yang averted his gaze, choosing instead to watch her movements. Her hands were as beautiful as a hand model’s—milky-white and so exquisite you wouldn’t want to let go.
Her skincare routine was quite elaborate. And this was without any makeup. Xiao Naimao was a natural beauty who didn’t need any at all. Without makeup, she could put most people to shame. With it, she was simply breathtaking. Xue Yang recalled the vintage makeup she had worn with that lolita dress. Only then did he truly understand the meaning of a smile that could overthrow a city, and a second smile that could overthrow a kingdom.
"Don’t you get tired of doing your skincare every day?"
"Not at all. Skincare is a girl’s most basic form of self-respect. You wouldn’t want a sloppy girlfriend, would you?"
A sloppy girlfriend? Xue Yang had a gut feeling this was a trick question.
"It looks like I’ll have to learn about skincare too. Otherwise, I might become a sloppy boyfriend one day and get kicked to the curb."
"I would never kick you. But you could do your skincare with me. I’ll teach you."
It seems I’ve dug my own grave.
"I bought a set of skincare products for you. They’re in the bathroom."
"Huh? How did I not know that?"
"You’re only in there long enough to brush your teeth. How would you know what else I’ve put in there?"
I guess that’s true. I’m a grown man; I wouldn’t pay attention to these things.
Xue Yang carried his phone and headed toward the bathroom. The bathroom counter was cluttered with skincare products. After searching for a moment, he finally found the men’s products among the pile.
Good grief. They were hidden so far in the back, it’s no wonder I never saw them.
"I don’t think I’ve seen this brand before."
"I had it custom-made for your skin type."
"When did you have it made?"
"Before the New Year."
Xue Yang thought back and vaguely remembered. Lin Xi had once brought over several shopping bags... could that have been it?
"Okay, I’ll teach you. First is cleansing. This is the first step of skincare, letting your skin relax and washing away the dirt from the entire day. Remember to use lukewarm water! Just follow my lead."
Xue Yang followed Lin Xi’s movements and began to wash his face.
"The second step is to apply toner."
Xue Yang found the toner among the heap of products and was just about to pour it directly into his hand when Lin Xi stopped him.
"Hey, don’t do it like that! First, pour the toner onto a cotton pad. Then, either pat it gently or wipe upwards, against your pores. You can’t just slap it on with your hands, and definitely don’t slap it on forcefully. It’s really damaging to the skin."
What a hassle, Xue Yang thought.
Next was eye care, followed by a serum, a lotion, and finally, a moisturizer.
"Listen, for dry and sensitive skin, a good moisturizer is essential. Most people get sensitive skin because they don’t take proper care of their stratum corneum. That damages the skin’s lipid barrier and reduces its ability to retain moisture."
So much trouble, Xue Yang grumbled to himself again. He decided then and there to avoid discussing this topic with Lin Xi in the future.
However, she was teaching him so earnestly. Whenever his technique was off, she looked like she wanted to reach right through the screen and do it for him herself. Sometimes, as she moved, that snowy expanse of skin would sway before his eyes.
It’s impossible to learn. Just impossible. Hmm, maybe I should just have Xiao Xi come back and teach me in person next time.
"Are you all done now?"
Though Xue Yang’s technique was far from professional, his skin had improved significantly after the whole routine.
"Now, feel your face. Doesn’t it feel really comfortable?"
"It really does," Xue Yang said after carefully touching his face. "No wonder you girls love skincare so much."
It was true. Xue Yang was the kind of rugged, no-fuss guy whose skincare routine, aside from diligent showering, consisted of a single bottle of generic cream. Now that his face looked practically transformed, he finally understood.
"Xue Yang, Si Wen told me everything," Lin Xi suddenly said from the other side of the video call.
Xue Yang came out of the bathroom and lay down on the bed. "What did she say?"
"About what happened to you at Trendy Apparel Company."
Xue Yang was slightly startled. He’d forgotten to tell that blabbermouth Si Wen not to mention this to Lin Xi.
