Chapter 1520: The Purgators are Here!

The first exchange ended with William unleashing his second technique. He didn’t just swing his blade; he released a fierce, explosive ball of multi-elemental power that erupted upon contact. The blast engulfed many of the fox clones instantly. When the dust settled, there was nothing left of them but scorched earth and dissipating mist.

"As I expected," William said, his voice filled with a grim amusement. He didn’t stop moving, his body a blur. "You risked sending weak, unrefined copies to face me, thinking I’d be overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Or perhaps you thought you could turn the world upside down using these clones before I could react. Either way..."

His face turned savage, the mask of the calm guild master falling away. All the deep frustration, the years of hidden mourning, and the despair he had held within his spirit since the day he came back to this life, exploded all at once.

"You are going to lose every single one of them right here, right now!"

"This world is mine!" The first copy to appear gritted his teeth, his black eyes pulsing with a fierce light. He and the other copies were channelling their collective power into the ground, trying their absolute best to seize and take back control over the world’s core.

"No one can match up against my darkness! No one in these lower realms can withstand the weight of my power!"

"Bullshit!" William responded with a fierce roar. He pivoted on his heel, unleashing the same explosive technique against another group of copies that had tried to flank him.

Like their predecessors, they were caught in the centre of an explosive ball and died right on the spot, their forms dissolving into nothingness. "Let me show you that there is someone in the world who can easily do the trick! You aren’t a god here!"

William was careful, even in the heat of this brutal combat. He didn’t unleash his spirit body in front of the fox clones. His mind remained sharp and attentive despite the rage fueling his spirit. He knew he didn’t need the full manifestation of his spirit to kill these fragmented copies.

Not to mention, he was acutely aware that even if the true Fox wasn’t physically here, it was watching every movement, every flicker of power, and every choice through the eyes of these clones. William had no intention of exposing his full hand or his ultimate secrets to his deadliest enemy this early in the game.

Even if William seemed unstoppable, the Fox wasn’t an easy foe, even if he had only weak clones. At some point, the fox realised it was becoming impossible to simply wrestle control of the world back through passive channelling while the clones were getting slaughtered like cattle.

Instead of staying motionless and allowing William to pick them off, the Fox decided to fight back with the ferocity of a cornered beast.

All of a sudden, the behaviour of the clones shifted. Dozens of them stopped their rituals and started to dash around the battlefield in chaotic, high-speed patterns.

They began unleashing devastating waves of attacks that sliced through the air and forced William back. Even if his second technique was formidable, the sheer volume of incoming techniques meant he couldn’t match his initial killing spree.

The most he could do now was to kill a couple of clones with each strike of his technique. He had to become more efficient, more versatile. To make up for the loss of momentum, William focused more on his other weapons.

He manipulated his flying weapons into a defensive perimeter that shredded any clone that got too close, and then he pulled out his bow. He began firing explosive arrows in rapid succession, raining hell over the fox clones’ heads from a distance.

The battle changed instantly, transforming into a far-distance fight between the two sides. The valley was filled with the sounds of whistling arrows and the concussive blasts of techniques.

Even if the fox clones held the upper hand in terms of sheer numbers, the Fox was still fighting a losing battle of attrition. William was a fortress in motion, and he was slowly grinding them down.

And then, exactly what William had been waiting for finally happened!

"You damn bastard! You dare to show your ugly face again in front of me?!!"

A fierce, ground-shaking roar came from far behind, announcing the arrival of the Blue Purgators’ leader. He wasn’t alone. When William stole a glance over his shoulder, he saw the horizon covered with a sea of blue-armoured masters with their banners.

The leader had mobilised the entire Blue Purgators force for this confrontation, and behind them, the massive floating castle drifted through the bruised clouds like a vengeful moon.

"You did very well pinning him here," the leader said as he reached the front line. Once his elite forces joined the fray, it ceased to be a battle and became a one-sided slaughter.

The Purgators fought with an immense hatred for the Fox. The leader stopped next to William, nodding in genuine appreciation. "I don’t know how you recognised him. He has used a dozen different faces, yet I cannot be mistaken about this disgusting, dirty spirit power. It reeks of the fox."

"It was easy to guess," William shrugged, his breathing slightly heavy but his eyes still sharp. He had no intention of explaining his past life or his history with the Fox. "I believe you and your men can handle this cleanup on your own."

"You won’t stay and watch them die?!" The leader was genuinely surprised. He had assumed, when Bernard came to deliver the news, that William wanted the Purgators to assist him so they could both share in the honour. But it felt as if William already had other, more urgent plans in motion.

"As you can tell, he is already aware of our presence and our schemes," William said, his body already tensing as he prepared to move. He started to run toward a specific direction. "There is no time to waste! We need to fully take over the core of this world before the real thing—the true body—arrives!"
