Reincarnation Of The Legendary Sword Saint-Chapter 87: Inferno Unleashed
Things moved forward. By now, about fifty teachers were taking on the hell flames, but the flames kept multiplying. Most of them emerged from the ground, and more kept coming. The numbers weren’t going down.
Velqira tightened her fists, watching as the teachers destroyed the cores, but they weren’t able to keep up. These were not ordinary flames. They weren’t just hell flames, they had arms and legs, moving like living beings, spreading destruction wherever they landed.
Then the flames changed their tactic. They stopped rushing straight at the teachers and slammed into the ground, detonating with massive explosions. If they got too close, the teachers could destroy the cores. By exploding on impact, they caught some teachers in the blast.
Velqira increased her aura. "I won’t just stand here!" she shouted as she charged forward.
"Come back! There’s no need! Wait here!" Zari called out.
"No. I’m strong enough," Velqira replied, her red aura blazing. She raised her sword and ran. The living hell flames tried to hit the ground and explode, but she intercepted them, vanishing their burning bodies with her strikes. She moved from one to the next, slashing relentlessly.
Then it happened. Thousands of these hell flames appeared midair. Everything paused. Everyone stared as the dark, living fire merged above them, forming a massive moving entity, complete with arms and legs, as large as the academy itself. When it landed, the ground shook violently.
Some teachers began retreating. "Damn it. Our numbers aren’t enough. Most of our strongest fighters are already out, and the students are still inside the buildings. We can’t let it reach them."
The first-class students, the seniors who had passed the Sword Code, stepped out. "Isn’t that Kyle Volan? Derek... Soren... Lorcan?" someone whispered.
Fifteen seniors in total took formation. "Teachers, we’ve got this. Let’s go," they said.
"Roger!"
They all ran forward, swords raised. "Sword God skill! Blast!" Derek shouted, red energy forming in his hands. He threw it at the living hell flames. The massive fire entity barely flinched.
The living flames raised their giant, burning arms to slam down. Everyone leapt aside. The hands alone smashed into the ground, melting it, cracks spreading like ant trails.
"Y’all, let’s form a circle around it. These are not normal flames, so we shouldn’t let them touch us. We have to defeat it by destroying its core. Direct it."
"Yes, let’s do that," Loka replied.
The ten of them nodded and surrounded the massive, living flame. The inferno turned to face them, opening its mouth wide. Fire poured out, swirling in a circle around it. The students jumped back, barely avoiding the heat.
"Now, all of you, strike its leg! Let’s see!" Kyle shouted.
He dashed forward with incredible speed, raising his sword toward the giant flaming leg and slashing through it. His blade cut through the flame, but nothing happened. The leg remained whole. His sword burned hot in his hand, melting slightly.
"What the hell?" Kyle exclaimed, throwing the sword back.
Derek caught it. "Careful!" he said.
Kyle grabbed it again, activating his Sword God skill. Red energy flared across his sword as he roared. Every student did the same.
"Let’s do it together!" they shouted.
At the same time, all ten raised their swords. Red energy surged forward, striking the core of the living flame. The blades smashed into it simultaneously, cracking the core. The inferno screamed in pain and staggered backward.
Velqira Sage watched, standing frozen. She couldn’t do anything yet.
"What the hell? So that’s what the first-class students—the strongest in the academy—are capable of," she thought. "But I’m going to have to do something too."
She turned to the smaller flames approaching, each about the size of a human, as the teachers continued taking them on. Velqira dashed forward, slashing one of the cores. The flame vanished instantly.
Daryl watched from a window. "Damn it. The princess is doing something. I can’t just watch. If I don’t act, she’ll take all the attention. I have to surpass her."
He leapt from the window and landed on the ground, raising his sword.
"Sword God Aura Release!" he shouted, and red energy surged around his body.
Rowan smiled as he watched from the window.
"Oh, so he was protesting that no one should go out," he said quietly. "Well, good thing. I was about to end this myself, but now I won’t."
He crossed his arms, eyes fixed on the battlefield. "Now that the princess went, Daryl also went. Looks like he doesn’t want the princess taking the spotlight either. The spotlight is going to Class One, the first-class seniors. They really are strong. It looks like they have it under control."
Rowan continued watching the huge field below as the battle raged on. The giant living flame rampaged across the grounds, destroying parts of the buildings and smashing through the gates. The main gate had already collapsed, walls were crumbling, and the ground it marched on cracked and melted beneath its steps.
Even so, the first-class students kept pressing forward, continuously tackling the massive flame giant without backing down.
Daryl surged forward, staying right beside Velqira. She glanced at him, and for a brief moment, their eyes met as they moved in unison, running forward together.
Side by side, they slashed at the smaller, human-sized moving flames that were trying to advance toward the school. Some of the teachers were also striking alongside them, cutting down the flames relentlessly.
A lot of students watched from the sidelines. Some, even those capable of fighting, didn’t bother to intervene. They simply observed, either unwilling or uninterested to join the battle.
Derek and the rest of the first-class students surged forward once again, their swords slashing in perfect unison. Each strike released a wave of red energy that shot toward the giant flame. At the same time, they struck the core once more.
The core weakened under their combined assault.
The massive flame giant stumbled backward, its steps heavy, and one of its strikes shattered a huge wall as it tried to stabilize itself.
