Chapter 45: Threads Will

The following morning, Rowan woke and stretched, yawning as sunlight crept into the room. He glanced at his hands, feeling the familiar pulse of mana flowing through him. Everything had replenished, yet the memory of his battle with Valzaha still burned in his mind.

Rowan walked toward the window, peering out over the forest surrounding their house. From downstairs, the rhythmic clashing of metal reached his ears. Aldwin was training. But this wasn’t casual practice. Each strike of his sword cut the air with precision, power, and focus, an aura radiating from him that Rowan could feel even from here.

He paused, absorbing the sound and the energy. I haven’t seen him this serious, not even after all those battles. Losing to Valzaha had shaken him deeply, and now, every motion, every swing, screamed of dedication, of someone striving to surpass their limits.

Rowan’s gaze hardened. He clenched his fists. I can’t afford to be weak again. My training has to be even better. I have to push myself further, faster.

The forest outside was quiet, the house still except for the echoing clangs from Aldwin’s practice.

Rowan walked out of his room and down the stairs, rubbing his eyes and stretching his arms. "Good morning, Mom," he said.

"Good morning, dear," Mira replied warmly. "Go call your dad. He’s practicing outside with his sword."

Rowan nodded and quickly opened the door. "Dad! Dad!"

Aldwin paused mid-swing, his sword gleaming in the morning light. "Hmm? Rowan? Coming!"

Rowan walked back to the dining table, where Elian had already set the dishes. She carried the pots down and carefully placed them in the center of the table, arranging each dish plate by plate.

"Hey, Rowan, the meal is ready. Come eat while it’s still hot," Elian said.

Rowan sat down and began serving himself. Moments later, Aldwin entered, brushing off sweat from his practice. Mira glanced at him and shook her head playfully. "No way you’re eating like that, all sweaty. Go take a bath first."

Aldwin chuckled. "Alright, alright. I’ll be quick," he said, heading off.

Rowan dug into the food, savoring each bite. Once he had eaten enough, he looked at Mira. "I want to start learning to use the elements I have," he said. "After Dad checked with the crystal, I found I can use all of them. I want to begin training."

Mira smiled gently. "You’re still young, Rowan. There’s no rush. Focus on eating and resting for now."

Rowan sighed inwardly. I knew she’d say that. I’ll ask Dad when he’s done with bathing and comes to eat.

Rowan focused on finishing his meal. When he was almost done, he noticed a big piece of meat sitting on a plate beside him. He carefully placed it on the plate he had just finished eating from, picked up a knife, and began cutting it slowly. He brought a piece to his mouth and savored it.

"This is actually really tasty," he said, rushing through the rest of it. When he finished, he leaned back and pressed both hands to his stomach. "I’m really full," he said, smiling.

Rowan leaned back, patting his full stomach. "Mom, Elian, thanks for the meal."

"You’re welcome, son," Mira said warmly, smiling at him.

"You’re welcome, Master," Elian added with a polite bow, her tone formal as always.

Rowan nodded, thinking to himself. She still calls me ’Master,’ even now. Even when I was just an infant, when she carried me, she always called me Master Rowan. I still don’t really understand why.

Just then, his father walked in. "Ah, where’s my meal?" he said, taking a seat beside Rowan. Mira rose gracefully, carrying his plate and drink to serve him.

Aldwin quickly grabbed his fork and began shoveling food into his mouth, eating with unrestrained speed. Rowan watched him, amused. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Aldwin paused mid-bite, looking at Rowan. "Hey, son, it’s not really polite to stare at someone while they’re eating. You haven’t mastered your table manners yet," Mira said lightly.

Aldwin chewed and swallowed, grinning. "Let him be, son. What is it you wanted to say?"

Rowan straightened. "Dad, I want to start training. You said I’m capable of using all five elements, right? I want to learn how to use them. I don’t fully understand how yet, but I want to start now."

Aldwin’s expression softened as he remembered the events of yesterday, the battle against Valzaha and everything Rowan had endured. He shook his head slowly.

"Alright, son. It’s fine. You can start training now. You’ll grow even stronger than me one day. You’re truly blessed, and though you’re still young, it’s never too early to begin. I’ll allow it."

He paused, recalling their earlier conversations. "Even your grandfather and Edric, your uncle, agreed. After we left their castle yesterday, they promised to send a trainer here in a few days."

Mira exhaled lightly, shaking her head. "You all are always making decisions without me. You keep making decisions on your own."

As she then carried Rowan’s plate, she walked away.

"Dad, can’t I start now? Aren’t you capable of using the elements? You know, I’m ready," Rowan asked eagerly.

Aldwin shook his head, a small smile on his face. "I wouldn’t say I’m very capable. I’m not an expert. I mostly focus on my sword practice."

"Yes, I figured," Rowan murmured.

Elian then stood, finishing her meal. "I will," she said confidently.

Rowan looked at her, surprised. "Wait... what? How?"

Elian shrugged lightly. "Don’t overthink it. I’m from a high-ranking noble family. That’s why I’ve been trained in water magic. It’s simply part of my heritage."

Rowan shook his head. "How? We live in a wooden house, far from everyone else."

Aldwin laughed, a deep, hearty sound, tears of amusement forming in his eyes. "Ha! You’re right. I’m one of the lowest-ranking nobles. Her father’s title is higher than mine. But after I saved his life and his family, he allowed his daughter to serve me as my maid. She agreed, and has been with me ever since."
