Chapter 25 - Nice one

As expected, Alexandra led Rael to what he believed was the Commander's Arena.

Once they settled in the middle and stared at each other, one of the ceiling-mounted screens descended in front of her.

Standing across from her, Rael couldn't see what she was doing, except for a few taps on the screen.

[She's setting up the stage for your trial, Lord Rael.]

I see.

Shiran laughed.

[Even if Lord Rael can't see what she's doing on her screen, I'm sure he knows what she's up to, even without Miss Dominica!]

You really believe in me that much, Shiran? That's adorable.

[He's wrong, though.]

[Eh?!]

Dominica...

As usual, the third party disrupted them.

It was only a chuckle from the feral yet beautiful commander, but Rael heard it and grew nervous.

His surroundings changed from a white, cube-shaped room to a vast chamber that went beyond what the Commander's Arena should contain.

The entire place was devastated.

Rael felt wind batter his metallic back and tousle his white mane, likely because there was no window behind him.

In the corner of his eye, he saw broken walls and pillars, with a few wounded humans huddled nearby.

When they noticed Alexandra, they screamed and covered their heads, refusing to meet her gaze.

"I'm the villain," Alexandra said. "I've attacked this hotel suite and claimed its top floor along with its clients, using them as hostages. Sadly, some of them fought back, and now the entire floor is on the brink of destruction, with a few victims barely holding onto their lives. Time's against you, hero. I'm not one to wait."

After clarifying the trial's scenario and stating her impatience, Alexandra eased into her attacking stance.

Her left hand rose to chest level, while her dominant hand was clenched by her waist.

Rael knew she was fast enough to blur his vision, yet she was clearly holding back, giving him time to process everything.

I must... save everyone while keeping her busy?

[I've assessed the situation for you, Lord Rael. There are fifteen people on this floor, six of whom are severely wounded and unable to move.]

Dominica acted as Rael's eyes, processing information faster than he ever could.

She counted everyone, then placed the data in his mind so he knew exactly where the wounded and mobile hostages were.

Damn! Three hostages are right behind me!

Rael quickly stepped aside.

He now stood by the shattered window that overlooked the metropolis, sharp wind slicing past him.

They were on the seventieth floor, so high that most people wouldn't even approach the windows.

Alexandra smirked.

"Nice. You saved three lives now."

She blurred to Rael's front and punched him in the solar plexus, cracking his metallic armor and nearly splitting it apart.

Her punch launched Rael off the floor and flung him out of the window.

"But you sacrificed your life instead," she said, her voice reaching him as he tumbled through the air.

He floated like a discarded doll, inertia threatening to drag him down into a bloody smear on the streets below.

Yet fear didn't cripple Rael or cloud his mind.

How much EXP to reverse my gauntlet's pulling ability?!

[Five thousand EXP.]

Give it to me!

[Your Gauntlet Of The Maker has been upgraded.]

Eyes wide with The Maker's POV, Rael thrust his hand at the hotel's safety rail, targeting its metal.

A thunderous roar accompanied three purple, lightning-like streaks surging from his gauntlet to the rail, hauling him back to the rooftop.

He gripped the rail and glanced down, realizing how high he was, and feeling a rush of excitement despite nearly dying moments earlier.

There was no time to dwell on it, so he hopped over the rail and ran across the roof, leaping over vents and other obstacles until he reached the door.

[Critical thinking is a great asset, Lord Rael. My deepest congratulations on evolving your skill to match your needs.]

[Epic save!]

Let's talk after we finish this trial. We need to pass it, and I already have a plan. Shiran, it's time to split.

[Ayo? Really?!]

[I see. A direct fight against Alexandra von Karmesinthal is impossible. A sound strategy is vital, and it must succeed on the first try.]

[Eyo! Eyo! I'll fight alongside Lord Rael!]

Alright, here's the plan.

Shiran fell silent, listening intently to Rael's instructions.

He grew more excited with every detail, aware of how crucial his part was.

In less than thirty seconds, it was time for their second round against the Commander.

Let's do this!

[Aye!]

[May you succeed, Lord Rael. Shiran, do not disappoint us.]

[Aye!]
