Chapter 50: And So It Begins..

The struggle was fierce, but the outcome was certain.

The building shook violently due to the constant attacks on the barrier, but the operation room was silent.

I stepped out from behind the rift where I hid from their guns and looked at the empty room with a sinister smile.

This room was the operation center which handled everything in regards to security. All the CCTVs scattered across the entire C.A.T.H were operated from here.

"The world will never know what happened." I grinned devilishly as I walked toward the control panel and began deleting the footage of everything that happened tonight—including the arrival of the Colonel, his Lieutenant, Viktor, and Natasha.

I even went further to deactivate all cameras and shut the system down.

"Since we never came here, it never happened." My grin widened to the point anyone looking at me would think I was crazy.

Without any reason to remain here, I walked into my rift and entered my territory.

— NIGHTFALL DOMINION, Collapsed Barracks —

The world turned dark for a moment, and the next I was seated on the half-broken staircase of the collapsed barrack.

It was filthy.

Dirt clung to the stone like dried blood, and patches of green moss and strange glowing weeds grew between the cracks. Creepers wrapped around shattered beams and broken railings, curling like dead veins frozen mid-scream.

The roof was mostly gone.

Chunks of stone and twisted metal jutted from the ceiling like broken teeth, but through the gaping hole, moonlight poured. It spilled across the ruined floor, touching dust-coated bunks, rusted weapons, and the skeletal frame of a fallen chandelier now lying in a puddle of rotting wood and ash.

This was the first time I was visiting this part of the castle. While the dusty halls themselves were a bit untidy, it was never this bad.

"What the hell happened here?" I muttered with a frown.

The only way I could get answers to this question was by upgrading my Blood Pact ability, until I could return Lord Ravus to his peak condition.

Beyond that, I could only live every day hoping my territory didn’t get invaded.

[INTRUDER ALERT!]

[HUMANS AND ASCENDANTS HAVE INFILTRATED YOUR TERRITORY. DEAL WITH IT!]

Gazing at the notification that kept popping up, I simply rolled my eyes and shifted my attention to my stats.

[Status:] Weakened

[Stats]

Strength: 8 - 5

Speed: 8 - 5

Vitality: 9 - 5

Intelligence: 10

[Health Points:] 45/45

[Energy Points:] 20/20

[Time Left:] 6:50

I didn’t plan to deal with the intruders now—that’s why I sent them into the castle while I came here directly. Fighting the Colonel and his men was a death wish.

In fact, I was certain Lord Ravus, at his current level, couldn’t deal with more than one Ascendant. So fighting them would only end in disaster. However, I could wait things out.

The plan was simple: take advantage of the different time zones between Earth and the Nightfall Dominion. I currently had 7 hours before my weakened state wore off—but that 7 hours in this world was about 14 minutes on Earth.

Once I survive the orc horde, I’ll have enough experience points to repair my domain, and enough universal fragments to purchase better abilities. With that, I can rely on the castle defenses, my abilities, and Lord Ravus to deal with the Colonel and his men.

Since they can’t escape this world without a rift opening, there is no reason to rush.

"It’s boring, but I’ll have to endure." I fell back and laid on the dusty stairs. "I’ll use this opportunity to rest properly. Escaping Louisiana won’t be an easy task."

I shut my eyes tight, blocking out the warning message from the system. And at this moment, I felt at peace again.

— Natasha’s POV —

As soon as I exited the command center, I was greeted with a sight I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get over.

The blue dome that once covered the entire C.A.T.H now had web-shaped cracks spread all over it. Bolts of lightning rained down on it in the thousands, creating blinding flashes that were hard to look at, and deafening noises that made my ears hurt.

It was so intense and chaotic I could barely make sense of the Orc Champion’s figure beneath all that blinding light and thunderbolts.

"This is on a whole different level." I mumbled, and quickly noticed my voice was shaky.

"Am I scared?" I muttered in disbelief.

"You got this, Natty!" I told myself.

I shut my eyes tight, inhaled deeply, and exhaled loudly before opening them again—only to see Pamela and Viktor running toward the center point of the chaos, where the Orc Champion would land as soon as the barrier fell.

I couldn’t even imagine doing something like this, no matter how strong I got. Maybe that’s why I fell for Adam. Seeing him throw himself into a dangerous situation against the red vines at Nightfall Dominion made me feel... safe around him.

Instinctively, I looked back at the command center, wondering why he stayed behind.

"He gets irritated quite fast..." I mumbled.

That was why I didn’t bother asking unnecessary questions when he insisted on staying back.

Huff!

I pushed aside the distracting thoughts and ran in the direction of the airship. There were so many people heading there already, even the lobby of the command center was empty when I passed through. So I suspected they were all trying to evacuate.

Following the paved path and numerous signboards pointing in the right direction, I ran for nearly five minutes—and had to stop and catch my breath like any other human.

My [Core] talent was amazing, but it didn’t strengthen my physical capabilities. Instead, I’d been slacking off on workout sessions because I knew my [Core] talent had a mind of its own and didn’t need me to control it.

"Why is this place so big!" I gasped, and then—

CRASH!

Glass-shattering sounds boomed across the C.A.T.H. Contrary to our expectations, the Orc Champion didn’t land in the center of the base.

My eyes widened in horror as I watched the raging thunderbolts chase after the tiny figure shooting toward the command center like a god of thunder—crashing into it with a loud boom!

BOOM!

"Adam... no..."

My mind went blank as I watched an entire building get obliterated like it was made of paper.
