Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire-Chapter 407: Judji crumples
Chapter 407: Judji crumples
The Judji Republic was threatened on all sides.
The plagues killed thousands of people every day. The crops failed to grow under the onslaught of locusts, and all efforts of farmers could protect only a small part of the harvest. Only thanks to the seemingly boundless supply of fish, the country still wasn’t starving.
The chicken-dragons have gone insane and began killing people, often destroying entire villages and disappearing into the wild. Those people who survived the plagues, the famines and the attacks often were left with no other means of putting food in their mouth except banditry.
And to top it all off, the Judji senate was too busy debating and fighting for influence to properly coordinate their efforts in stabilizing the country. The Judji army was spending more time questioning whom they should obey than chasing bandits and aggressive beasts.
Even when the Naregan Army with extra bees reached their borders, the Judji Republic was still terribly unprepared to meet them—my girls and their humans.
I hoped this would put some sense into the heads of the senators, but I thought too highly of them.
"They are even more self-centered and greedy caterpillars than an average human! They never put their country into a priority. Its wellbeing only matters to them because their own wellbeing depends on it," Whisper (though Listener) retold me combined reports of her Agents. "Even now, they have refused to comply. By your previous order, as soon as the army got the message from the diplomatic team, they marched toward the Judji capital city. Whisper said."
"And when was that?" I asked, then patiently waited.
"Two days ago. The message took its while getting here. Whisper said."
I clicked my tongue.
"Good! We have no time to waste. Let this war be short and victorious. Bring the senate to heel! I’m sure it will only require threatening their lives personally."
"I will carry these words to my subordinates, Father. Whisper said."
And they have executed them flawlessly. The army had marched forward, meeting almost no resistance. The Judji soldiers that stood in their way were quickly demolished by human muskets (taken from Vardish stock or crafted from bee designs) and bee fire-breathers.
Only the capital city had a garrison and walls large enough to be a threat, but the bee soldiers crossed it with ease. They had to fight through countless insects parasitising on humans or living near them, but they still got inside, started a few fires over the city as a distraction, and assassinated one of the more influential senators.
Then a desperate human, brainwashed by an Agent Bee who whispered in his ears sweet promises for a week straight, had opened the city’s gates.
Judji crumpled under the soles of the Bee Empire’s boots, and it wasn’t even a challenge.
In any other situation, we would’ve needed to occupy more of the Judji’s territories, but the country was such a mess that nobody had the mind to protest the change of power as one.
I got reports about several rebellions starting in cities and towns over Judji, but people were so confused that they weren’t even sure where to attack! Some tried to gather armies and follow the Naregan army, but almost none had actually reached it before inner conflicts and lack of supplies turned them into a bunch of disorganized war-bands.
Some people actually seemed to welcome anyone who could bring some order to this place, despite the general Judji love for freedom.
These successes were a wonderful boon to my mood. The final piece was a victorious report from Whisper.
"The senators don’t dare to protest Naregan orders out loud when Naregan soldiers are holding their families prisoner and keeping watch on the senators themselves! And whatever they might scheme, my girls see and hear for days away. Whisper says," Listener told me with pride which couldn’t have been only Whisper’s.
Although the country was still far from stable, this let me give orders to fix this state of things. I had a list of orders prepared for this moment.
First of all, the Judji army was going to hunt all the chickens and other hostile dragons. This will kill two birds (dragons!) with one stone—deal with the evolving creatures and make sure that the Judji army is too far from the senate to suddenly attack the core of Naregan and Bee Empire forces.
Of course, they already failed to do so, but back then, the Judji soldiers had very little time to gather strength. Now they could gather strength, but were stationed too far from the Naregan army or Judji borders to suddenly attack it or the Naregan Kingdom itself.
Meanwhile, I ordered the human and bee soldiers to do what they came there for.
Can lots of fish!
The capital of the Judji Republic was built next to a sea harbor. It had a lot of fish, but no canned fish manufactures. Now, Builder and Researcher Bees flew there on dragons to build them!
Using humans as free labor, of course. We didn’t have mechas out there.
Within days, I got news that the manufactures were being built in record time, and before that, people were canning fish by hand using whatever containers were available. The first packages of canned fish were sent to the Naregan Kingdom only five days after the Judji was taken.
Of course, Judji people didn’t like being robbed like that. The Naregan soldiers forced them to tolerate this, but to pacify people more, I ordered spreading the teachings of basic hygiene and simple cures.
Those were the same things that most of the Naregan Kingdom used to protect itself from illness, and with some propaganda, it became a blessed teaching that could save not just your body, but also your soul.
This calmed people even more. And calm people could stop protesting on the streets and throwing rocks at my girls’ humans and go fishing instead.
In three more weeks, I finally had enough food to *start* feeding Kachi-Chi and Barahi Kingdoms.
But my victory had a sour taste. While my girls succeeded in Judji, back in the Bee Empire, things were different...
