Chapter 184: Chapter 184

My mother reaches us at that same moment, not long after father yet long enough for bad things to happen, and taking in the battle, the place and the state Camillo is at all at once she shrieks in anger and despair, quickly glancing at the lion’s corpse and having no time to ponder, attacking the Demon Lord as the clear perpetuator of all this mess.

I do not even try to stop her, kwnowing full well how futile it would be in the first place, and we could use her help too since I do not want to drag this fight any longer nor put they in danger for long so I use her distraction in my favor as her claws have the Demon Lord full attention, moving up on my owl body and quickly reaching the chains that held the creatures head in place, and with a quick glance at it big intelligent eyes I risk it all in a swift attack, freezing the base of the chain and making it fragile enough to be broken by my descending talons.

There is but a moment when our eyes met, the beast and mine, before I go to the next chain, and even if the creature did not help us it was worth setting it free, even more when it meant at great loss for the Demon Lord.

"No! You! What are you doing!" It is the first time I see his cocky smile drop.

One single chain is not enough to set the creature free, so as it cracks its neck up and starts to stretch its rusted jaw, clacking and smashing but surely loosening the sore muscles up, I already go for the next chain.

Aware of my plans now the Demon Lord tries to stop me but Ethan stands in his way, saying to mother while blocking the fast yet increasingly desperate attacks of the demon: "Go see Camillo, he needs help." Mother tries to talk back and help in the fight, as the great yet strong headed warrior she is, but Ethan says while pushing the Demon back only to dodge on his way. "There is no time, go!"

I stop paying attention to them and focus solely and completely on the task at hand, quickly reaching the next chain on its neck, soon going to the rest of his body, reaching his leg on one side.

"Seraph, watch out!" Is the only warning I get before I hear a very angry Demon Lord approaching, but to his demise I have already managed to free the front of the creature, and the moment he tries to get to me on the other side is the same moment I hear a crashing of jaws as bites resonate in the air, followed by big tallowed paws.

Still kept in place though there is not much the beast can do to attack, but its surprise big hits were enough to buy me time to free its back, having it slide its tail out from the last pair of chains and stand at its fully height, the incredible unique beast showing its prowess once more.

And staring down at its jailor.

"No, what have you done!" There is real fear in the Demon’s Lord voice when he says that.

As the monster stands up on its full ledge what I thought at first to be his skin starts dropping like rocky sand, crackling and falling and revealing the beast inside, so much so that I have a proper view of the being for the first time, looking like a mix of a few creatures, the pelt having the rocky texture still in a strange way, almost as if he had just shed, made of red with stripes of black while it has a huge white mane fur around neck back from its tiger snout and flowing with grace, a long tail resembling that of a lion with a big waft of white fur at the tip looking like a puffy cloud, but it too has red hooves on its hind legs, thick eyebrows that gave it too much expression for a beast face over the three pair of eyes, and paws at the front with thumbs up as a human hand, and for the positioning of its body I could tell it walked on two legs just as much in four.

It cracked its neck, balancing the huge red horns on its head to the sides, at ease with the situation, not even slightly fazed by the Demon Lord in front of him, the tail moving slowly and upping dust at the back.

"Ah, little one, you had your fun for a long time did you not?" It has a very deep guttural voice, able to speak now that it has been freed, surprising its captor and the others. "But it seems like my brethren has chosen his heir well enough."

Those last words don’t make sense to me until I see him looking over his shoulder towards me, big eyes descending to a specific point and I am surprised to find him staring at the chain around my wrist which contains the book of spells and the pocket dimension.

"How did you..." I start but stop. But of course, such incredible beasts so close up to each other, it would not be a surprise if they met one another and had something in common, even if time long past.

"I am Irditix, the Blood Ox, and I am very, very unhappy with my room management."

I don’t like the way he stares at me and my wrist, unblinking for the longest time, as if measuring me for a fight.

"Ah, that spell book... although ice magic would be useless to me I always wanted to have a pocket dimension uhm... never quite master it enchantments myself..."

His sudden interest is very unwelcomed, and I am suddenly very aware that this beast does not owe me anything, and now free he may do as he pleases, and by the reaction the Demon Lord is having I may have made a tsunami to fill a bucket of water, and freed a much worse creature only to deal with another.

I try to see his status with Appraisal only to receive his name and Unique status to his being, which makes me go pale on the spot.

Because I know what that means, from my studies, that when a creature reaches level 500 they gain a unique evolution that will never be repeated ever again, a truly single powerful being that will never be seconded.

And we are staring right at one of these single beings.
