Chapter 610: Jiang Guoli’s Report

"Are you Jiang Yexun? Your father, Jiang Guoli, reported to the police and the Revolutionary Committee that when your grandparents’ estate was handed over, they secretly hid gold, silver, jewelry, antiques, and calligraphy in the mountains. He hopes you’ll honestly confess," the police officer said coldly, his eyes scrutinizing Jiang Yexun.

Su Xiaoxiao wanted to speak up, but Jiang Yexun gently squeezed her hand, signaling for her to stay quiet.

"If you think there’s anything hidden in the mountains, feel free to dig as deep as you want. If the Guo family really hid something, I wouldn’t have risked my life hunting in the mountains all these years just for a bite to eat," Jiang Yexun replied calmly, his gaze unwavering as he stared at the people before him.

"So you wouldn’t mind if we searched here?" one of the Revolutionary Committee members retorted sarcastically, clearly irritated. His eyes held a sharp look, as though he were ready to arrest Jiang Yexun at the slightest provocation.

Jiang Yexun, however, remained unfazed, shaking his head lightly. "I don’t mind. We’ve got nothing to hide."

With that, he took Su Xiaoxiao’s hand and walked toward the door.

The people from the village watched them with some anxiety. It seemed like everyone was trying to avoid trouble, stepping back as Jiang Yexun passed by. However, Tao Junlan, Qian Siyu, Zhang Tiewa, and He Xingzhi all watched them with worried expressions. The four of them stepped forward, but Su Xiaoxiao shot them a look that stopped them in their tracks.

"If it was just the police, it wouldn’t be so bad, but the Revolutionary Committee is like a sticky patch—once it’s on you, it’s hard to get rid of," Su Xiaoxiao whispered to Jiang Yexun, her voice low enough that only the two of them could hear.

Jiang Yexun’s face darkened immediately. After a brief pause, he said, "They probably went over to check there first. If they didn’t find anything, that’s why they came here."

These Revolutionary Committee members were usually arrogant. If they had even the slightest piece of evidence, they’d have arrested them right away. Moreover, just a few days ago, Jiang Yexun had hidden some old items in Xiaoxiao’s space to avoid any problems.

He couldn’t believe that Jiang Guoli, despite nearly thirty years of marriage, would still act so recklessly, betraying his own children. Jiang Yexun was too angry to think about it further, fearing that remembering Jiang Guoli would make him even more infuriated.

More than an hour later, the police and Revolutionary Committee members finally came out. The officers from the police looked relatively calm since they hadn’t found anything, but the Revolutionary Committee members wore grim expressions.

They had asked around and learned that Jiang Yexun and Su Xiaoxiao were wealthy. They didn’t really believe Jiang Guoli’s report and thought they might seize the opportunity to make a quick gain during the search. However, when they searched Jiang Xinyue’s house, they only found fifty yuan. At Jiang Yexun’s house, they found just over a hundred yuan—nothing worth confiscating.

Still, they couldn’t leave empty-handed, so they weren’t going to give up that easily.

Just as they were trying to think of a way to salvage something from this, Jiang Yexun suddenly spoke up. "Didn’t Jiang Guoli say the treasure was hidden in the mountains? Why don’t you go up and look again? Otherwise, how can we explain this?"

The Revolutionary Committee members’ faces twisted. They felt like they’d just swallowed a fly. "Look in the mountains? Are you out of your mind?" they muttered.

Not to mention the size of the mountain, they couldn’t possibly dig the entire thing up. And the mountain was known to have wild tigers and wolves. They were greedy for money and recognition, but they weren’t stupid enough to risk their lives.

Still, since the report had claimed the treasure was hidden there, they knew they couldn’t just leave without at least a cursory search. Otherwise, they’d be accused of neglecting their duty.

"Fine," one of them grumbled, pinching his nose as he reluctantly agreed.

But their search in the mountains lasted less than two hours. They came back, faces dark, empty-handed.

Jiang Yexun stood at the foot of the mountain, a faint smile on his lips. "So, did you find any gold or jewels up there?"

"No! That must have been Jiang Guoli’s vengeful lie. He’s just trying to frame us after the divorce. People like him, with such twisted minds, don’t deserve any leniency!" one of the Revolutionary Committee members hissed through clenched teeth.

Jiang Yexun nodded slowly. "Well, I’m sorry for the trouble, but it seems like we’re done here."

The Revolutionary Committee members, eager to avoid further complications, didn’t bother to exchange another word with him. They turned and left.

As the police officers and Revolutionary Committee members left, the villagers who had been watching from a distance slowly gathered around Jiang Yexun.

"Jiang Yexun, what’s going on with your father? After being sent to prison, is he really losing his mind? How could he report something like this about you?"

"Yeah, he’s already in jail—why can’t he just leave things alone? At least your mother divorced him."

The villagers murmured among themselves, expressing their dissatisfaction with Jiang Guoli.

"It’s fine. It’s all in the past now," Jiang Yexun replied coolly, shaking his head.

The villagers, seeing that he was genuinely unfazed, glanced curiously at Su Xiaoxiao, who stood beside him. They noticed that she wore a calm, almost faint smile, as if she didn’t care at all about the visit from the Revolutionary Committee.

Some of the villagers whispered among themselves, impressed by how composed they were. "They must be from the city—so calm."

But in reality, neither Jiang Yexun nor Su Xiaoxiao was unconcerned. They were both planning to leave soon, and their minds were already far from the village. They just wanted everything to go smoothly until they could finally leave. If not for the police and Revolutionary Committee’s visit, they would have already gone to the city’s post office to send out their registered mail.

After briefly speaking with the villagers, Jiang Yexun hopped onto his bicycle and took Su Xiaoxiao to the city. They obtained the work certificates and then went to visit Jiang Xinyue before heading back to the village.

They gathered Qian Siyu, Tao Junlan, Zhang Tiewa, and He Xingzhi, and the five of them went straight to the Kong family’s house.

When the Kong family saw them, everyone was shocked. Kong Liye, especially, couldn’t stop wondering whether he had done anything wrong recently. Though he blamed Jiang Yexun and Su Xiaoxiao for ruining his plans, deep down, he knew he was no match for them, even as the son of the village chief.

He didn’t dare confront them directly, so he just quietly plotted how to get revenge on Qian Siyu, the one who had humiliated him. He comforted himself by thinking that they wouldn’t figure out what he was up to. But even so, he couldn’t help but resentfully glare at Qian Siyu.
