Chapter 62: Cecil

[Raylin Pov]

"Haah... at least they finally knew about him." I sighed in disappointment as I looked at the screen.

Yami rested for some time and they started to explain everything to him and Celestina.

But I didn’t need to listen, because I saw everything, and I even knew more than them.

Basically, that bastard Cecil was literally killing for fun!

Everything started when Cecil revealed his affinities which were Ice and Bone.

Well, he hid some affinities.

I didn’t think that he was suspicious at that time because, in fact, I supported him. And he wasn’t the only one that hid some information. It was already a miracle that they formed teams instead of killing each other immediately.

He hid the fact that he had 4 affinities, with the other 2 being blood and darkness, but I was rather disappointed at Yami for revealing his already limited capabilities at that time.

Returning to Cecil, I didn’t think too much about his weird actions. He was hiding in the darkness too much and stalking the people outside his camp.

Still, I would have done the same, so I didn’t care.

But he showed many hints of how he was watching the people in secret — especially the girls — and yet, they didn’t suspect him too much.

"Damn! You all are stupid!"

I sighed inwardly and recalled Ruby’s incident.

With his fast casting, he made a bone do a sound in the forest to distract either Aurelia or Ruby.

Aurelia was the one who had decided to check it out and left them alone. Then he simply cut Ruby’s head in an instant.

He did that with a smile, a smile that I had seen some times in my past life.

Recognizing that smile as he stored the corpse, I understood his problem.

He was addicted, addicted to killing, addicted to the smell of blood, and addicted to the fresh corpses.

One of the worst types of villains in the novels.

He then used his blood affinity to make a pool of blood and made his lower body explode.

That way he got the excuse of being a victim, because who would think that anyone would do this to himself?

Fortunately, for the rest of the challenge, he didn’t kill anyone again.

But everything changed in the second one.

Because he was in a room with only 3 other people without anyone to witness anything.

At the start, when he was alone, he got a strange red vial out of his storage and drank it.

After seeing the result, I assumed that it was his reward.

He no longer had his former 4 affinities, but instead, they either got merged or replaced with a new one.

He called his new affinity Death.

After getting his new affinity, the first person entered the room through the portal.

A demon called Thomas, he found Cecil alone and decided to make a conversation with him.

But once he let his guard down, Cecil struck him with a sudden surge of reddish black mana.

It entered his body, and in an instant, he fell to the ground lifelessly.

And in the next moment, he stood up as if nothing happened. But his lifeless eyes said otherwise.

Cecil started moving his hand, and Thomas followed each one of Cecil’s commands, then some minutes later, 2 more people entered.

I was truly terrified of how that corpse could even use aura and mana.

They killed one and left the other alive to not get sent back, which made me certain that he was killing for fun.

In his way, he killed many people while using traps and monsters to not make the kills count, including Aurelia and Paul from his own team, also Michael the sound user and Seles from that Chinese dragon’s team.

Unfortunately for him, he was seen by Drago who was much faster than him.

He ran and told the people with him about Cecil. They fought Cecil and ended up losing people to him.

They could have died, but when Long Wei passed by coincidence, he turned the table instantly.

Like, damn! That man was probably the strongest there! I don’t know what his reward was but his dragon form improved as hell!

He alone was enough to push all Cecil’s undead and force him to run.

Some time later, Cecil was met with a golden gate that was guarded by a golden golem holding a spear, but he used an item to pass through the gate and sneak behind the knight to the exit.

Yeah, there was no point of fighting the knight. Yami and his team should have ran away instead of seeking "Revenge" from a soul that was already suffering.

Anyway, the others killed the golem soon after, then silently tracked him until they found the same door he entered.

Unlike the one Yami entered, that one led to a long passage that was filled with monsters and traps, which made them waste too much time.

But eventually, they all entered the portal, making Cecil safe from their wrath.

Now that Cecil got exposed, he started showing his real face, acting innocently to mock them and playing with the corpses in front of them.

"I don’t know if he is doing this to make them emotional, or he is just having fun."

I turned the screen view to the normal one to see the maze.

Counting the people inside the maze, a curse left my mouth. "Fuck! Only 12!"

I couldn’t help but start to lose hope. With counting the people who finished the challenge already and assuming that everyone there would survive, the total number would be only 19!

Rubbing my head, I took a deep breath and decided:

"I will take my rewards from the black market and stop gambling. I can’t take any more risks at this point."

I couldn’t be sure anymore if Yami would win. His mental state was terrible and there was a lunatic necromancer testing his new affinity beside him.

My gaze shifted to his master, Kaito. The golem had lost already and the corrupted monster won.

But it wasn’t a perfect win.

The monster was barely standing with almost all his body parts either broken or missing. The golem really had beaten him as a punching bag.

Seizing the opportunity, Kaito, Jaxon and Gilbert rained the monster with all types of attacks until Jaxon took the aura core out of its head.

They then used the golem’s heart to open the core, and after seeing the chaotic sight and taking the spatial rings that Yami missed, they headed to one of the exit doors.

I sighed in relief as I saw them heading toward the portal.

"At least Yami won’t lose his teacher too."

Kaito slid dramatically into the portal and entered the third challenge area, and Jaxon followed him immediately.

They noticed the division between the people there, and more important, the undead surrounding Cecil.

"Tsk, they are fighting again. Let’s see the others."

Returning to the maze, 2 more people had died because of a monster similar to the one that chased Kaito, and in the end, all the others left the maze.

"17..." I muttered under my breath, the weight of their situation striking me like a hammer.

"There is some hope. They should get their rewards soon, and today is the gifting day by coincidence. I should just give a good gift to him."

Kaito had given Yami a new sword earlier, so I won’t need to waste my coins on a useless katana.

A black katana covered in green flames that Jaxon got from the rotten monster. Yami had corruption resistance so he should be okay.

Skimming through the shop, my eyes landed on a potion.

It was a tier 3 potion that could increase the darkness control, which was similar to the one that Andrea used.

After thinking for some time, I decided to buy it for him.

Darkness was dangerous even if he had some resistance, and Cecil may be a proof of that.

*Ding!*

"Oh oh, it’s starting."

I summoned some popcorn and watched as Yami started reading the new challenge’s rules and his rewards at the same time.
