Chapter 60: Traitor

’So... this is the end.’

With Celestina on my back, I stood in front of a purple portal.

It was lightening the entire corridor and leaking chilling air.

*Crack!*

The guiding light suddenly got shattered into countless light shards before fading in the air.

It probably meant that I reached my destination.

But I wasn’t satisfied with the result.

After all what happened, how could I be satisfied? How could I consider this success?

All it needed was only one monster to kill almost all of us.

3 affinities. Many artifacts. Months of fighting experience. A great teacher. Incredible soul talent. Great trait. Saintess’ blessings.

I had everything, and yet, I was weak, too weak to save anyone, too weak to make any change, and too weak to even sacrifice myself.

Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

With a stern expression, I moved forward and stepped into the portal.

*Ding!*

Immediately, I was hit with cold wind, slightly pushing me backward as if I was in the middle of a storm.

I used my fire aura to warm my body and opened my eyes, and immediately, my expression turned into confusion.

The first thing I noticed was a familiar screen.

[Congratulations! You finished the second challenge! Get ready for your rewards!]

[The third challenge will start when the maze becomes empty.]

[You can’t attack each other before the challenge starts]

Then I noticed my surroundings.

The ground was covered with a thick layer of... red snow?

It wasn’t only the snow, but even the clear sky was red like blood, without any traces of the sun in my sight.

All around me were old broken buildings from all shapes and sizes, with a shattered stone wall surrounding the entire place. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

No matter how I looked at it, the whole place looked like an old stronghold.

But what really took my attention was the scene in front of me.

I wasn’t alone, I could sense 5 familiar souls, they were Braham, Cecil, Long Wei, Nora, and Drago.

Long Wei was in his draconic form, his teeth had the shape of sharp fangs, his hands were replaced by sharp claws, 2 small horns were rising from his head, and his body was covered with golden scales.

His draconic eyes were staring daggers at Cecil, who was smiling wryly at him.

All of a sudden, Long Wei threw a punch at Cecil at an insane speed, but a barrier materialized suddenly and blocked him.

"Fuck!" He shouted angrily before punching the barrier again. "Damn you!"

Braham suddenly put his hand on his shoulder and looked at Cecil dangerously. "Don’t waste your energy, Long. He won’t be safe for a long time."

Cecil simply laughed at them "Hehehe...ohh, that look in your face is worth everything!"

He turned his head and noticed me, making his eyes widening slightly, then he waved at me. "Yami! It’s been a long time. Glad you survived that hell. Wait, is this Celestina on your back?"

I opened my mouth to ask about why they were fighting, but suddenly everyone rushed towards me except Cecil.

"Damn! Celi, are you okay?" Long Wei shouted in concern as he took Celestina from my back.

"She isn’t injured." I said with a quiet voice. "Not physically at least."

The next moment, a warm light came out of Braham’s necklace and covered our bodies.

The light made my mind clearer and decreased all my negative emotions. Maybe because of my state the effect wasn’t big, but it was still better than before.

"You both look terrible. Your journey wasn’t that easy, right?" Cecil said with some concern. His face reflected that of sympathy, but his eyes were saying otherwise.

I ignored the fact that my and Celestina’s clothes were tattered and asked: "What happened?"

Braham took 2 blankets out of his storage, covered both of me and Celestina, then sighed. "It was him all the time. Cecil... He killed Ruby."

I froze as I heard the last part.

I turned my head towards him, and he responded by shrugging his shoulders.

"Wait, he was attacked too. You are definitely mistaken!"

"See? Even the little kid has a bigger brain than you. What a world we are living in." Cecil mocked them and lowered his head innocently.

Drago glanced at him sharply, his usual indifference, cold face turning into one of furiousness.

"He also has brutally killed Aurelia, Paul, Michael, Seles, Thomas, Alexia, and maybe more, with their bodies in his storage!"

I looked at Cecil with my mouth wide open, and he looked at me with even more shock.

"You are saying it like I’m a lunatic or something."

His ring started shining, then a soulless body came out of it.

It was the body of a beautiful woman, with her blonde hair flowing to her back and wearing a short dress.

I looked at her pale face and saw her lifeless crimson eyes.

I recognized her immediately. She was Seles from Long Wei’s team.

Cecil raised his hand then started moving his fingers, and with them, Seles’ body moved as if he was controlling a doll.

"I just felt like leaving the bodies would be a waste, especially with my new Death affinity. So I’m keeping them with me!"

"You are sick!" Nora yelled at him, while Long Wei bit his lip until it began to bleed.

I stared in disbelief as he took out another corpse and made it dance. It was a headless corpse of a woman with grey skin.

I recognized her instantly, after all... that was the missing body of Ruby.

He then dismissed her and Seles, then went to sit far away while laughing.

"It’s... true.."

I fell on my knees, breathing firmly as the realization hit me like a hammer.

Cecil, the man that lived with us for months — had always been a traitor.

He killed Ruby, and now they were saying that he also killed Aurelia and Paul.

But why? Why? WHY?!

If he was still here, then he probably didn’t kill them directly on purpose.

If his goal wasn’t returning to Eldoria, then why did he kill them?!

And what was that death affinity? When did he get it? How did he get it?

Suddenly, my mind got clearer as Beaham touched my shoulder.

"Rest for now. We can talk later. Your mind is already looking miserable, so don’t make your condition worse."

He let out a deep sigh and rubbed his head. "I’ll tell you what we know later."
