Reincarnated in the Royal Family with a Plunder System-Chapter 36: The Dark Histoy (2/3)
Chapter 36: The Dark Histoy (2/3)
Lysandra bit her lips. She never wanted to tell him all of this. But in the end, Eleanor knew everything as much as she did. If she did not tell, Eleanor would. And Eleanor’s version would undoubtedly be much more exaggerated.
"So what happened after you fed me the poison?"
"It began to make your soul swell. The world of Mugen itself began to flutter with happiness. The leaves danced, the air sang, the clouds churned. It was called a sign from heaven by most who witnessed it—the sign of changing times.
"But your soul began to become infinitely bigger. I immediately made Seraphina absorb your excess. She continuously absorbed it until the very foundations of her soul gained the power to house more than one class.
"Even though people call her a dual class talent now, that is far from her limits. Soon enough, she will start awakening more classes. At least, her soul has the power to accommodate all human classes."
Ryan became speechless. "Did we achieve the ’equilibrium’ you said?"
"You both did, you both were like two sides of the infinite symbol (∞)!"
Ryan could feel his mother’s nails digging into his back. "Then what happened, why am I class-less now?"
"Because I made a mistake. Because I fed you the Shard of Infinity—you had to bear much more burden than your sister. And she could not absorb all of your exceedingly powerful soul. Your sould began showing signs of explosion."
Ryan became panicked inwardly for no reason. "Then?"
"Your soul exploded."
"What?"
"But me and Eleanor collected all your soul pieces and I kept healing you non-stop, thus—I ended up saving you. By then, the poisonous effects of the Shard of Infinity had also ended. Your soul settled—but now, it was only half the size of a normal person’s soul."
"You couldn’t even get enough for a full person?" he asked.
"We did." Lysandra’s face became icy cold. "I got half, Eleanor got half. But she never handed over her half of your soul to me.
"She spat on my face and left, but I could accept it; it was not out of vengeance, but she found me infuriating as a mother figure. Since then—we have been enemies. I had tried to get my hands on your soul, but she had never budged. If there is any hope of you gaining the power to train, that is in Eleanor’s hand. And no one, not even the King, can force her to do what she does not want to do."
After all, Eleanor was the king of the Human Kingdom in the shadows.
She was powerful. Some said, even more powerful than the King. Even her marriage with the king to become his concubine was just a pretext to have legitimate royal power, in some people’s words.
Ryan took a deep breath. Then, he stood up and left the bed.
"Where are you going?" Lysandra asked.
"I need some alone time with my sister. And I need to meet someone."
"...Do you hate me now?"
"I at least feel like I am seeing you for the first time, mom."
"Ryan... please stay."
She held his wrist.
"I was young and foolish."
"You chose one child over the other, mom. Since Seraphina was so much more important than my life, I will please myself out and ask her to come. I am not mad you tried an experiment, but—fuck, I feel weird. Bye, I need some time."
He loosened out of her grip and left the room with a dark expression.
He hated emotions like this.
He much rather preferred to be a brainrotted prince.
At least, he wished his mother knew how to play guqin. She was just keeping that as a decoration—she didn’t know how to play for fucksake. Why didn’t she know how to play? If she knew, she could have played a sad music for him right now.
At least some funny music.
Soon, he left his mother’s room, grumbling.
Lysandra trembled.
Tears did not leave her eyes, but she did cry soundlessly.
I truly do not deserve forgiveness.
Ryan had never seen his mother cry.
Not even once.
...
Unexpectedly, the person Ryan wanted to meet the most at this point was waiting just some meters outside his mother’s room, just beyond his mother’s perception range.
Leaning against the corridor’s window sill and looking out into the garden, it was none other than Eleanor. Her beautiful blond hair looking like a cheery wave of sunshine due to the early noon-light.
She turned to look at him with a gentle smile.
Eleanor’s face was bathed in golden light, her expression languid. Seeing his dark expression, she smiled.
"Did your mother say everything honestly?" she asked. Then, she shook her head. "Your expression says she did. At least, her brutal honesty hadn’t changed in all these years."
His face became darker. "Aunt, what did you do to the rest of my soul?"
"Hm?" She smiled again. "What do you think I did?"
Ryan walked behind her and wrapped his hand around her waist. He placed his jaw on her shoulder and kissed her cheeks. "You probably did not do anything drastic, right?"
"That’s a lot of guessing. You know what I might have done? I might have cursed your soul, placed a slave seal on it to control you, or maybe something even viler. Like Mind control?"
"From what I heard about you, you don’t seem like such a person. I have been misunderstanding you all this time."
Ryan made her turn around. She leaned against the windowsill.
Their eyes met. "Aunt, tell me."
She raised her hand and caressed his cheek with her thumb. "Do you hate me, nephew?"
"I don’t."
"Doesn’t your mother tell you a lot of bad things about me?"
"... she does. Often."
"She really is a bitch. I always wish to beat her up, but meh, she is strong in her own right."
Ryan remained silent. "Aunt, tell me. Where is my soul?"
"Well, aren’t you eager now that I have something you want? You would have been kissing and groping me all around otherwise."
He became a bit ashamed.
She pulled his head closer and touched her forehead against his. "Never listen to the bad things your mother says about me. I might not see you a lot, but understand that your aunt has your wellbeing in her heart even more than your mother does."
He... nodded.
She smiled. "As for your soul, of course, I put it back in your body recently."
