Reincarnated as the fourth son of a noble and tamed an SS-rank dragon-Chapter 57: Maybe We Are Bankrupt
Each horde of demons consisted of 500 soldiers, some of whom could fly, others could only walk.
They arrived by ship, some were shot down by cannon fire, but many survived and some ships escaped being hit by the attacks.
Solsticea had a large coastal region, so invasion by ship is relatively easy, the rulers never thought that one day they would be attacked in this way. This was a very stupid thought, since the Northern Continent had always been known as the Demon Continent, yet it had been a few centuries since any Demon Lord had appeared.
The demons began to attack every form of living being they came across, they made no distinction between monster and human. Or belonging to humanity.
The intelligent races: dragons, humans, elves, dwarves, and beast people; were part of what they called humanity. Other beings were separated into demons, animals, and monsters. But demons could be similar to animals and at the same time similar to humans in the sense of intelligence. Like Zenith, who is a demon that looks like someone from the Beast people.
They were destroying the houses, and the coastal region was where some villages were, while they walked around and destroyed what they saw in front of them, some traps were activated and several demons were blown up.
They looked fragile, even an orc could get away with some of these attacks, but they were strong, so strong and fast that one of them managed to break an orc in half with a single blow.
They built facilities where they would spend the night, and the monsters they killed would be used as food. They ate raw, even though they lit a fire, they didn’t roast the meat.
Some were eating the flesh of dead demons.
The demon continent was an infertile land, most of the food was monsters that were created by the accumulation of mana, fish, and a few plants that managed to grow.
Some places were more developed and began to use the leftovers of the monsters to fertilize the soil and were able to grow some edible plants. In other places there was a food crisis, they weren’t united as a group, and they had a very strong division of races. That’s why it was common for one race to hunt another and eat the flesh of another demon.
So they weren’t a threat in themselves, but when the Demon Lord appeared, they united and their differences were forgotten.
The way in which a new Lord appeared was something that no one, apart from the demons, knew. The information was hidden and few had access, only the elite knew how it happened and it wasn’t public information why they appeared from time to time and not always after one died.
Some countries have always wanted to exterminate all the demons, but some have always opposed it, for a few reasons. The first was because of the massacre they would be making, even though some demons did it, many didn’t believe the stories and argued that they just didn’t set foot on the continent and they wouldn’t be killed.
Others were worried about the fate of the continent because some country would want to take over the land, no matter how infertile it was.
Darius was sitting next to Nyme, they were having lunch, the adventurers were eating at one table, Kaly and the others were at another table, and at the third were the slave girls. Darius was at the third table.
Kaly had always wanted a single table, but it turned out to be easier to buy four different tables.
Each one had six places to sit.
Nyme kept making small talk, and Darius politely responded and kept the conversation going.
"Now that you’re a Baronet, what should I call you?"
"You can carry on as usual, in theory, I’m just a nobleman without any land, to be quite honest, my brother can even kick me out of here if he wants to. But that’s only when he inherits the land."
This worried the adventurers, they liked the job. It wasn’t even about the money itself, it was about having something to do during the day, as long as they protected the place and provided an escort.
No other job allowed that, even though they were still adventurers, it was something they did sporadically, not every day to make ends meet.
"But don’t worry, I’ll find another place for the factory so we can carry on as usual."
Nyme didn’t know how to get any closer to Darius, everyone could see that she was trying, except Darius.
After lunch they continued working, Darius used up all his mana, he didn’t stop when he felt tired, he tried to spend it until his mana was zero. That’s why he fainted and fell to the ground.
Nyme and the slaves were distraught at the scene, but the others already knew what had happened and acted more naturally. Kaly carried Darius and took him to the bedroom.
The slaves were sleeping there, two other beds had been put in, but they were sleeping together in the larger bed.
Darius was there.
"When he wakes up, he’ll smell me," Lilian said a little strangely.
"Just like mine and your sister’s," replied Naph.
Kaly approached Nyme and said: "If you wake up on top of him, maybe he’ll see you differently, but not only that, force a kiss, he’s a bit slow for things like that, so do what you think is best."
It would take about 20 minutes for Darius to wake up; fainting due to lack of mana was considered a common mistake for novice mages, so the situation was a bit funny for Kaly.
Nyme didn’t want to take the advice, she thought it was rude to do that to someone, especially someone who was her boss.
Darius woke up and his body felt heavy, it was as if he had trained until he passed out from exhaustion, the sensation was different from just feeling tired because he was low on mana. Recovery also took longer, so he avoided using any more mana for the rest of the day.
Ava, Thali, and Eryn knew how to produce potions, sometimes they took part in the production, and other times they were only responsible for the delivery and bureaucratic part, such as recording the amounts and making the payments to the village. Since they had an agreement to harvest the herbs, as well as services with the carpenters. They also had a contract with Baron Bali, who supplied treated wood for the potion boxes.
The Guild benefited from this, as it used the wood as firewood in the stove.
The heat plates were used to prepare potions, or by adventurers in dungeons. Wood-burning stoves were usually used for preparing food. Darius didn’t like having to light a fire, so he preferred hotplates.
But they were useless in restaurants, where the demand for food was higher.
The next day, Darius was feeling better, all the tiredness gone.
Nyme was in the vault room, which was a normal room with a few wooden cabinets and the coins one on top of the other. The room was very large and full of money.
Kaly didn’t care much about the security of this place, it was under the factory and was guarded by a door, the security outside was enough to protect the whole place, so each of the employees could enter.
Darius and Kaly had confidence in everyone since they never gave any sign that they might steal, not even the slave girls, who would be punished if they did.
Besides, there were hidden crystals, so if anyone stole, Kaly would know.
Nyme was doing the accounting, she was taking out all the money Darius asked for, he would give the weapons to the winners, as well as a large amount of gold coins, it would be 3,000, 2,000, 1,000 and 500 coins for first, second, third and fourth place.
If anyone stood out in any way, they would receive a sum of 250 gold coins and could work for Lucian Lestor.
This prize would be awarded for each of the four tournaments.
Taking into account the value of the weapons, the prize money and what he spent on renting the arena, the amount exceeded 50,000 gold coins.
There were 20,000 seats in the arena, each of which would be free if you made a purchase in the paper store or bought potions from the Guild. To make the whole process easier, they placed the stores and potion sales inside the arena, so that people could already buy and receive their ticket, which was limited to one per person.
That’s how they managed to get the 20,000 tickets on offer.
But the value they got out of it was only 2,000 gold coins.
Darius was almost bankrupt with the amount he spent. With the value of the food, he got another 3,000 gold coins. He still hoped to increase his profit during the tournament days.
Nyme was doing the math and they would need to sell around 10,000,000,000 full meals so that they wouldn’t make a loss. This amount already took into account what they were spending to produce each meal.
So, if everyone were to buy, each person would need to buy 500,000 meals, including soft drinks.
Nyme didn’t know how to break the news to Darius.
When he entered the vault room, Nyme got up from a chair and kissed him. The kiss was very wet.
"We need to talk, you may have bankrupted us."
She didn’t know how to break bad news, she thought that giving them a kiss and then telling them they were bankrupt was a good idea.
