Chapter 50: We Need Bread

Some new adventurers were arriving in the Capital, with them several mages and knights, they were from various other cities in Velmont. Some from neighboring countries.

The city was gradually becoming crowded, but this had been foreseen by Darius and Elara. The Guild has an underground part with several rooms, which could be used as a dormitory.

This part of the Guild was an old dungeon, and when it was conquered and its core destroyed, the location never changed. Which was strange, since when a core is removed, the dungeon gradually closes in on itself, some rare dungeons staying the same shape or shrinking down to just one part. Some become mining caves, others can become houses.

The dungeon was so large that on the second floor, there were more than fifty rooms, each with a bed. There were also some toilets and bathing places.

On the second floor, there were more than 70 rooms, and on the third floor there were more than 100, but from the fourth floor onwards no one knew what was in it, because the entrance was closed and no one was allowed in.

When Elara became Guildmaster, she began the process of revitalizing the dungeon, gradually buying beds and opening a guesthouse. Some adventurers rented a room or two, but there were never many guests, perhaps because of the location or the environment.

The walls were made of stone, and there were no windows, but it was ventilated, and it seemed that a breeze or two entered the dungeon. There were also magic stones in each room, so you could choose the room temperature. This was common in inns.

Darius also prepared himself, as he rented the Arena, he could use all the spaces as he liked, there were some rooms there that he could use as bedrooms, he did this, he hired some chambermaids and people to clean, he could house more than 100 people, or more if they shared the same room.

"Ten more days," San said as Darius looked at her.

"I feel a bit guilty about that."

"What do you mean?" San asked as he sat down on the bed.

"Was it right to ask strong people to leave?"

"They would die or run away, they couldn’t win."

San had foreseen the attack on Sosticea, a few days earlier Darius had taken advantage of the situation to try to recruit the strongest, before the country was destroyed. He felt guilty about not warning them, but that would only cause panic and many people wouldn’t believe him.

Then there would be another problem: if the prediction was confirmed, at some point people would ask for more attack predictions and this would create chaos. Even if you hide the source, there’s still a good chance they’ll find out.

Prediction magic is considered a family technique. These spells appear and can be passed on to children and stay in the family. They can even be taught, but they’re difficult and end up staying only in one group, or they just stay with the person and aren’t inherited.

There are various spells, some more or less specific. One example is fire arrows, which fall into the category of molding magic, where a certain element is molded freely by the user, but there are people who can’t do it and just get fireballs or a few sparks.

Darius can make arrows out of water and ice, but he can’t do it with fire. With air, even though he has an affinity, he can only make it thinner and thus cut objects.

That’s why the tutors try to teach all the elements and the various ways of using them, because this varies from person to person, and even with an affinity it’s possible that a certain magic won’t be used due to some impediment. And no one can explain how this actually happens, because class abilities are a mystery, so much so that the Holy Country of Elfron, which is on the East Continent, doesn’t use classes, they have their own system and completely ignore the existence of a system. Since the class doesn’t actually define what a person can do, neither do the elements. They consider the elements to be manifestations of the spirit and so they use a system that considers minerals and the environment.

Like manipulating the air and using fire magic to ignite a spark, thus having more powerful fire magic. That’s why the East Continent, even though it’s the smallest, is the strongest. Just because of the way they see magic and the other classes.

So getting to a different magic user was relatively easy.

Darius got up from the chair and stared at San, he was silent, but she got it completely wrong, he was just thinking about what he was going to do next. But she understood it as a courtship and started kissing him, her right hand went into Darius’ pants and she started stroking his penis, which was very fast.

Orphelia entered the room without knocking, it was as if she knew what was going on.

"Sorry to disturb you, pretend I’m not here," she said approaching the chair, and then she straightened up and sat there watching San kiss Darius.

"It’s nothing like that, I was just forcibly kissed."

"Don’t say that, you can’t say something like that to a woman, apologize and take off your clothes and give me some grandchildren."

Orphelia seemed to be enjoying the situation. Perhaps it was a fetish or just a strong desire to be a grandmother.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to insult you," he said, looking at San. But he continued with his clothes.

"You make everything so dull," Orphelia said as she got up and left the room.

"We’ve received a big request," Nyme said as she entered the room, she entered when she saw the door open, and she noticed Darius and San approaching.

"That’s not what you think," he said when he saw the look on her face.

"All right, but you two are pretty close, don’t you think?"

Darius understood this as a slight jealousy, but he had no experience and chose not to draw any conclusions.

"What was the request?"

"200,000 high healing potions and they want all the food we can send."

"Who asked?"

"Solsticea."

"How did they find out about the food?"

"Information like this is common, the Merchant’s Guild is a place where information is worth gold, so they always sell what they think is important."

"How much wheat do we have in the warehouse?"

"In the family warehouse, we have more than 2,000 imperial units and in the village, we have more than 300,000 imperial units."

"Do we still have all that wheat?"

That would amount to 230 tons of wheat.

"Yes, and this month’s production is expected to increase even more, even with consumption increasing, we still produce much more than we can sell."

"I’ll get to grips with that and the order, I’ll have to go to the Merchants’ Guild."

At the Guild he went to a receptionist and placed an order for bread, he would buy as much bread as they could deliver, all at market price. He also gave the specifications.

The Merchants’ Guild had a different system from the Adventurers’ Guild, they kept a register of everyone who sold food and on the cards, they were informed of orders, the card changed color when there were similar orders, this was rare. But when the cards changed color, the Guild was full.

Nyme was in charge of informing the village about the demand for wheat. She had also learned teleportation magic, so the job was easier.

The next day there were a few people queuing up at the Guild, the receptionist collected the fees for the service and kept some of the money to pay for the goods, it was relatively common for the Guild to negotiate with the sellers.

But the 50 gold coins soon ran out and Darius needed to give more money.

The market price for bread was 1 copper coin for two loaves.

He had forgotten to buy eggs to bread the nuggets, so he ordered milk as well as eggs, in case he ran out of eggs for this purpose.

He was worried about the future, as he needed to ensure that certain ingredients were never lacking, so he was encouraging the rearing of chickens and cattle for meat and milk. This demand called for more people in the village, Darius had predicted something like this in the past, so there were some empty houses, which would be for new people, but he never returned to the subject and the houses remained empty. Until that moment, he came across a family living on the street and asked them if they wanted a place to work and live, when they agreed, Darius gave them one of the houses and let them be responsible for the chickens.

It was the perfect idea, increasing the number of people living and working in a domain increased its importance and influence in the Kingdom, so Darius was thinking of increasing it a little more.

The workload increased, Darius used his clone creation to the maximum, he helped with food production and then potions, but they were limited in this task. Their mana was so small that two cauldrons would make them disappear. But by creating just two clones, they could cope better and the number rose to more than 30 cauldrons each.

As long as Darius wore the mana recovery necklace and let them rest for a while, they could stay in this role all day.

The clones’ fatigue didn’t get back to him, which is why it was so practical.

In two days they managed to send a lot of food and all the potions.

But the reason for the request still remained a secret.
