Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 296: First Weakling
Chapter 296: Chapter 296: First Weakling
"Sherone! They are getting closer!" One of the male leaders hollered.
The dazzle of zebras reacted to the looming horde of creatures that had already crossed the horizon and were getting closer.
"Everyone, pick up pace," Sherone commanded as he picked up his pace.
He was an experienced Zebra and had led these herd migrations in the past, he knew where to go and he even already had a pace in mind.
A plan was forming in his head, a really dangerous plan, one that would shock Kael if he found out. This Sherone was very bold, as expected of someone with so many scars.
The two thousand-plus zebras began to move slightly faster. As Sherone changed direction slightly, they all did so at the same time, heading toward a distant destination.
The cry of an eagle resounded, causing the ears of the zebras to perk up. They were very wary of these winged beings that could fly down to fight them at any moment.
The eagles were not like the usual lion and hyena predators that would traverse land just to get to them, these birds could swoop down with their sharp talons. The Zebras would be defenseless.
Luckily, there were not a lot of eagles present at the moment, barely a hundred and half of them were still ordinary eagles.
Suddenly, a black eagle swooped down without warning, causing the air to screech as it was torn by the metallic feathers.
Sherone suddenly stopped moving, his limbs went stiff and his pupils dilated. He raised his head up and stared straight at the incoming metal-feathered eagle with a savage look in his eyes.
Zebras could also be feisty.
Condra, the eagle that had dived down suddenly spread out his wingeld and came to a stop a few meters above Sherone. The wind picked up from his outstretched wings gushed down and blew in the faces of all Sherone and the nearby zebras.
This startled the weaker and paranoid zebras who immediately started galloping to avoid being in Condra’s reach.
Condra’s wingspan definitely surprised the zebras, he was so large. For zebras, it was rare to see such a large bird up close unless it was a vulture.
Sherone held his death stare as he prepared himself to jump. Jumping into the wait to fight a bird-like Condra was the worst possible idea but he was acting impulsively, it wasn’t like he had any experience fighting off birds like Condra.
With Condra so close to them, Sherone was able to immediately gauge his power level.
Similar to his.
Sherone felt a shiver all over his body but his horse-like striped face remained calm. He didn’t expect this eagle to be just as strong as he was.
Condra’s metal feathers, talons, and beak had a ruthless glint under the sunlight.
"Would you surrender..." Condra started, sending out a telepathic message.
But Sherone did not wait to listen to him, he quickly turned around and galloped to the front of the herd, leaving Condra slightly stunned.
"As expected," Condra said to himself. He flapped his wings hard and shot back into the sky to meet his eagle squads.
Sherone already had a plan on how to get rid of this unexpected enemy, he was confident in his plan. Why would he listen to anything that big bird had to say?
No doubt, that bird was definitely linked to the incoming horde of beasts.
"Slow down, you don’t want to tire yourselves out!" Sherone shouted.
The herd began to slow down. They had made some distance between them and the horde, but at what cost?
The horde of beasts were still jogging casually, not perturbed by the zebras that had run away.
Over at the beast horde, with Kael being taller than most creatures here and him having one of the best eyesight, he could see that the zebras had suddenly moved fast after one of the eagles dived down to meet them.
He didn’t say anything, this was how it was meant to be. He was going to apply the hunting technique of the humans with these creatures.
Hours went by, close to six hours since the slow chase had been dragging. Finally, a zebra could no longer keep up and slowed down.
They had been moving non stop for hours, no rest, no water. It was inevitable that one of them would not be able to continue.
Out of the two thousand plus zebras, this one particular zebra that was being left behind was insignificant.
He was old, not that old, but still older than most zebras. In his prime, he had been respected with many females rushing to breed with him. But now, he was isolated, all his females had jumped on the schlong of the next strong male they could find.
Such was the zebra society.
And so, the first weakling had been left behind. The eagles cried out in joy, the first sacrifice had been delivered.
Now the question was, who would enjoy this?
The old zebra walked slowly, soon, the whole zebra herd had left him behind. Some turned back to check on him but they did not stop for him, they also wanted to survive and they were not going to stop just because of him.
The old zebra watched the herd getting farther and farther away from him. To think he had grown up amongst some of them.
Meanwhile, as the zebra herd kept moving, the myriad beast horde kept advancing, closing up on his location.
The old zebra’s heart beat wildly, was this how he was going to die?
The horde kept getting closer and closer. Soon, he could hear the low growls and the stomping feet.
With the beast horde in sight, the old zebra seemed to regain his strength as adrenaline pumped through his body. He began to advance again, maybe he could catch up with the herd if he just tried hard enough.
Unfortunately, the horde had seen him and had acted immediately. The wolves, foxes, and goats that had been at the forefront of the army burst out with speed.
There was no use trying to hide amongst the tall grass, the snakes were already doing that. The zebra had seen all of them, all they had to do was chase it down.
For the old zebra, it felt weird to be chased by this strange unlikely group of creatures, but he still ran for his life.
He could hear the bark of wolves and foxes as well as the bleats of the crazy goats behind him.
Goats were actually hunting zebras. If not for Kael’s kingdom, such a scene would never occur.
The wolves, already used to hunting in pack formations, spread out. The ten of them that were involved in this chase split into three groups. One group chased relentlessly from behind while maintaining a steady pace, the other group charged on with their full force to the right side, intending to cut off one of the zebra’s escape routes.
The foxes charged to the left side, led by an Electric Fox. They were not used to hunting in groups so they just settled for a simple formation.
The goats, however, were everywhere, bumping into the wolves and foxes. No formation or hunting pattern, they were not hunters in the first place.
They were simply following their leader’s commander to make sure that they were the ones to take down the zebra. Ares had promised rewards and they were eager to bash their horns into their fellow herbivore’s body.
As expected, with incentives acting as the fuel, the goats were like agents of catastrophe, their might, screaming to the sky like mad men.
As it turned out, the old zebra became more afraid of the crazy goats than the actual predators running behind them. What was worse, these goats were well-rested and had been feeding on the grass for some time, they had the energy to pursue the tired zebra with full force.
The goats gradually closed in on the zebra, their hooves stomping on the ground and the grass parting ways behind them. The wolves and foxes could only watch with surprise in their eyes, they didn’t understand what was driving these goats to act like this.
It wasn’t that they weren’t fast enough, but they wanted to preserve their formation while maintaining their stamina.
One of the goats was catching up very fast, this was a goat that was very likely to awaken his heart soon, he was slightly stronger and healthier than the rest.
Watching the black and white hind of the zebra getting closer, the craziness in his eye reached its peak. He brought his head down and positioned his horned head at the zebra.
He would bash those fragile legs and bring down this creature, then he would go and claim his reward.
The old zebra’s ears twitched, he heard the footsteps of the goat behind him. He couldn’t believe it, this goat was actually trying to catch up with him.
Acting on instinct, the old zebra put all his weight on his two front limbs and kicked back with his two hind legs.
The power behind the back kick of a zebra was no joke. The goat felt something hit his head and heard a bang before everything went black.
