Yep, when Pebbles looked at their names floating above them, he found it somewhat easy.
When he was Level 1, he was able to knock out a Level 6 Stone Spider, with remarkable defense.
So mere fishes would be an easier task! That is, if they were to come out and be on the ground.
This is troublesome, I do not have a long range attack...
His skill set was only so so, and none of his skills would serve him well at the moment.
So the terrain did make it somewhat difficult for him.
"Tell me, should I just jump into the water and try to catch them?"
Nightstone turned his way. She had a blank expression on her face.
"Master, swimming is a bad choice. You might end up ganged up!"
Pebbles smirked.
"Did you forget what happened when all the Stone Spiders tried to gang up on me?" One of his claws, almost acting like a thumb, pointed at him as he struck a pose.
"Uh..." No matter what he said, Nightstone thought that it was a bad idea.
And Pebbles understood it better.
He was just putting up a front.
So he had nothing but to think about it... harder and harder... only to recall a few teachings from a friend in past life.
"Hmm hmm, there are three golden rules that one must remember when fishing..."
Golden rules:
Rule 1: If the water belongs to fish, then make the shore your battlefield.
Rule 2: If they move in groups, simply single them out and hunt them.
Rule 3: If you are simply overwhelmingly stronger, forget the previous two rules. Just catch them.
Pebbles recalled these faint memories from his blue scaled lizard friend, who called himself a lizardmen chief’s son.
He could not help but chuckle at these words.
But he carefully understood these words as well.
I am not strong.
He was thinking facts.
And fishes do move in groups. So should I separate them?
He liked the idea, but it would take too long. Just how many fishes were there in the swamp anyway!?
Make the shore my battlefield? Bullshit. What am I supposed to do, stand on the shore and wait for the fishes to walk out?
He could half imagine them doing that, considering the fishes seemed to breathe outside water for some time.
Even now, they seemingly rested atop the leaves, as if sunbathing in darkness.
Pebbles’ eyes twitched at seeing their mockery.
One of them flipped their fin once again!
These blue scaled, insect level, food. They dare!?
"Fine. If that’s what you want," Pebbles turned towards Nightstone and asked her a very simple question.
"Tell me, how deep is the water?"
Pebbles had faintly noticed earlier the ripples forming close to the edge of the small swampy pool.
It was from the drops falling from the ceiling. A conical rock identical to many others that hung, had drops of water drizzle down.
So he wanted to know, just how much water was present anyway. Maybe he could simply drain it out!?
Nightstone had seemingly sensed Pebbles’ plan.
"Hehe, do you want to take away their territory, Master?"
Pebbles smirked back at her.
"You’re smart."
"Hehe, not as much as you, Master."
"..."
"Yeah, so how deep?"
Pebbles repeated himself.
Hearing this, Nightstone raised one of her legs. She then turned her head left and right as if searching for something. And she found it.
Then she walked with the rest of her legs towards the found thing, a slightly elevated rock.
Then she stood over it with the raised leg pointing at a certain level.
"Master, the water level barely this much. However, draining them by drinking would be a problem..."
Pebbles smirked when he heard her say that.
Indeed, draining would be troublesome. He did not have a skill that could do it, nor did he have some item with such abilities... or did he?
"Hey system, what was that item in uh... something? I forgot the name!!!"
Ding!
[Inventory: It is a space provided by the system where the host can store items.]
[There are 2 slots provided for host’s level.]
[Each slot can harbor 2 copies of item.]
[For storage of uncountable objects, such as water, fire, rice, etc., a standard measurement laid out by system with bottles, bags, and other quantifiable units will be used.]
Ding!
[Item: Just A Normal Necklace.]
[Grade: S+]
[Description: Just a normal necklace. Do not expect some extra effects!]
"..."
So much for a reward. Never mind about the item. But this!
He found a certain important description!
So I can even store away that water?
Pebbles smirked at the fact.
But he ended up smirking in a weird and disgusting way.
Nightstone almost got chills looking at him, and so did the fishes over there.
Heck, if one could understand their languages, they could almost make out that the fishes were saying something along the lines:
"Bro, is it really a good idea to mess with that lizard from darkness?"
"Kekek, didn’t you hear? That is just a dragon. Not some lizard of darkness."
"But... but... no dragon could kill a Stone Spider with one hit..." It almost looked like there was one smart fish among the rest.
Alas, it was in the wrong company.
"Nah, even normal fishes cannot kill Stone Spiders. But we can," the smug looking Pandora Fish pointed towards a pile of sand that had almost formed a small hill.
"Just look at that pile of graves. They are dead spiders. They underestimated us and found a fitting end. If that lizard does that, then we’re cooking him!"
The little smart fish simply mumbled to itself, "But aren’t we also doing the same...? Looking down on him for being a dragon...?"
However, his words died and barely anyone heard since he put himself in the water.
Some other fishes did think the same way as this smart fish.
They did say something like:
"What if he’s plotting revenge for the Stone Spiders?"
"What if he is going to kill us brutally?"
But the smug fish shunned those thoughts by saying, "Say no to negativity! Only positivity!"
And thus, other voices died.
Nightstone had heard all of it, but Pebbles was lost in his own thoughts, that is until he noticed Nightstone’s uneasiness.
"Why? Is something wrong, Nightstone?"
"M-master, are you... are you planning to kill them in a brutal way!?"
When Pebbles turned his way towards Nightstone, he heard her words, but his gaze fell on something else.
"Brutal...?" He paused and then smirked. "Oh yes, why not?"
He then took a step further and leaned closer to Nightstone.
And then he whispered, "Have you ever felt thirsty despite drinking water? And the more you drink, the thirstier you feel?"
Obviously, she replied with a stern, "No..."
"Heh, I will show you then..." He pointed at the thousand year older herbs.
"Gather them."
"..."
