Redemption of a Born Demon-Chapter 81: Breaking the Rules, a Hundred Gods Retreat with a Wave of the Hand
At the front of the crowd, Lu Shijun, a direct disciple of Taihe Martial Arts Hall, was talking with the direct disciples from several other martial arts halls and Dao fields. As he kept an eye on the small western-style building, they quietly discussed the place’s miraculous nature.
They were not completely ignorant of the Martial Arts Realm; they knew what kind of legendary figures their Hall Masters were talking about.
Body Ascension. A living myth.
Legend had it that the Elder Celestial Master of Dragon Tiger Mountain was a Red Dust Immortal who had reached this state.
Before, they had heard the legends and thought them to be exaggerations. Only now did they realize that legends couldn’t possibly describe such power.
A few paintings were enough to suppress their masters, the Hall Masters they revered like great mountains?
It sounded like an impossible fantasy, yet it was utterly captivating.
Just then, hearing the chatter from the surrounding crowd, they noticed the arrival of Yi Beidou and his party.
"Are these people here for the building too? Does anyone know them?"
Watching Yi Beidou’s group approach, Lu Shijun asked the other direct disciples beside him in a low voice.
"I don’t. I’ve never seen them in Dragon Tiger Town before."
The others all shook their heads.
The martial arts halls and Dao fields in Dragon Tiger Town all had intricate ties to Dragon Tiger Mountain, so they were all relatively familiar with one another. The main disciples could at least put a face to a name.
However, this was the foot of Dragon Tiger Mountain, after all. Every year, Cultivators were drawn here by its fame, so it wasn’t strange for newcomers who had heard the rumors to come take a look.
The only issue was that the expert in the small building had set a rule: only five people could enter at a time to test their skills. As it stood, the five Hall Masters were still inside.
If these newcomers didn’t know the rules and barged in, there would likely be trouble.
The direct disciples exchanged a look and walked up to intercept Yi Beidou’s group of four.
"Have you all come to test yourselves in the Dao Field here?"
Lu Shijun said with a smile, cupping his hands in a respectful gesture toward Yi Beidou and his companions.
"That’s right."
Yi Beidou glanced at them, somewhat surprised that the Dao Field here had attracted so many people.
’Hasn’t it only been a day or two since we got the news and came to Dragon Tiger Town?’
’Then again, it makes sense,’ he thought. ’A Dao Field established by a Saint Expert would hold a fatal attraction for martial artists. Once discovered, word would spread quickly through the community.’
"You may not be aware, but the expert who set up the Dao Field inside has a rule: only five people at a time. As it happens, our five masters are inside testing their skills right now. I’m afraid you’ll have to wait. If you break the rule, you might anger that expert, and the consequences could be dire."
Lu Shijun patiently explained to Yi Beidou and his group.
Although Yi Beidou and his companions were strangers, his attitude was quite polite. He didn’t try to use his group’s numerical advantage to be overbearing.
’An Immortal is in that building; how could they dare try to monopolize such a rare opportunity?’
"Anger the expert? Making him angry would be even better."
However, upon hearing this, a flicker of interest crossed Yi Beidou’s face. He took a step, walked past Lu Shijun and the others, and continued toward the small western-style building.
Lu Shijun and the others were momentarily stunned.
’What’s wrong with this guy? He knows an expert is here, yet he’s deliberately breaking the rules to provoke him?’
By the time the direct disciples snapped out of it and turned around, Yi Beidou and his group were already several paces away.
"Hey, you..."
Lu Shijun rushed to stop them but was pulled back by the direct disciple of another martial arts hall.
"There’s no use reasoning with people who want to die. Since they won’t listen to advice and insist on going their own way, just let them. They’ll have to bear the consequences themselves."
Liang Benhua, a direct disciple from Minghe Martial Arts Hall, said to Lu Shijun.
"I’m just worried they’ll go over there and disturb the Hall Masters."
Lu Shijun said with a helpless sigh.
"What kind of person do you think is on the second floor? He’s an Immortal-like existence who hears everything. You think he can’t tell right from wrong? He can probably hear us talking right now."
"Alright, Brother Lu, don’t panic. You just got here, so you don’t understand the situation yet. We didn’t know only five people were allowed at first, either. You don’t think the person upstairs told us that himself, do you?"
Liang Benhua said with a chuckle. The foreigner who discovered this place studied at their martial arts hall, so they were among the first to arrive and understood the situation best.
They were the ones who discovered the five-person limit.
"Then how did you..."
Lu Shijun couldn’t help but ask.
"Just watch, Brother Lu. I doubt they’ll even make it through the door."
Liang Benhua smiled, shook his head, and looked toward Yi Beidou’s group.
「Meanwhile.」
Yi Beidou led Meng Qianyuan and the others to the front of the small building. They could already see the lifelike murals within the main hall. In the paintings, the eyes of the Deities and Exotic Beasts seemed to move, their gazes all landing on the newcomers.
"It’s a Spirit-Suppressing Painting. It seems this person is a Spiritual Painter," Zhou Baiwei said softly.
"That’s right. I heard from my master that a young Spiritual Painter in the Northeast achieved Body Ascension. With this method of Cultivation, their paintings have the power to protect homes and ward off evil. In the old days, many of the New Year’s pictures, murals, and window decorations were made by Spiritual Painters. It’s said some even have the ’Yin-Yang Tattoo’ ability, where they tattoo certain patterns on a person’s body to cure diseases and change their luck."
"But in the modern era, fewer and fewer people follow this path of Cultivation."
Meng Qianyuan added with a nod.
The main reason is that this art is difficult to practice and it’s hard to achieve anything significant. If you’re not a good cultivator, you just end up painting New Year’s pictures or working as a tattoo artist to make a living, and your work possesses no real spiritual power.
In ancient times, you could support yourself with such a craft, but technology is advanced now. New Year’s pictures are mostly printed, and tattoos are a niche interest. It’s not easy to make a name for yourself, and it’s getting harder to make a living on pure craftsmanship, so of course, fewer people learn it.
Not everyone can cultivate their way to becoming a saint or an Immortal. Most are ordinary people who ultimately have to worry about the daily necessities of life.
This is the state of many ancient traditions.
No matter the tradition, it needs a certain number of followers to prosper and produce influential masters.
"Interesting."
Yi Beidou said softly, then took a step toward the open doorway.
Everyone in the outer circle fixed their eyes on the group. Watching from the sidelines, Liang Benhua shook his head slightly, as if he already knew the outcome.
The moment Yi Beidou drew near...
BOOM!!
Even from ten or twenty meters away, the spectating disciples from the martial arts halls felt the entire building seem to tremble.
In truth, it wasn’t the building that was shaking, but their minds.
Soon, Lu Shijun and the others witnessed the most incredible scene of their lives.
From the main doorway and the open windows on the building’s first floor, rays of golden light seemed to burst forth. Within the light, the figures of Deities such as Celestial Kings, Rakshasas, Gate Gods, and Evil Ghosts leaned out, holding divine weapons and stabbing toward Yi Beidou’s party.
Their furious eyes blazed like fire, their divine might was as vast as the sea.
Clearly, this wasn’t real, but a mental illusion they were experiencing.
But in their minds, those vivid Deities were right before their eyes, making it impossible to tell truth from illusion.
So lifelike it seemed real—Transforming Illusion into Reality!
Even watching from a distance made Lu Shijun’s scalp prickle and his breath catch in his throat. What must it be like for those experiencing it firsthand?
Liang Benhua sighed. ’They broke the rule, and now the expert has unleashed his wrath, just as I thought.’ When they had first arrived, some of his fellow disciples who didn’t know the rule had been so mentally shaken by this scene that they had to lie in bed for half a day to recover.
Behind Yi Beidou, the expressions of Zhou Baiwei, Meng Qianyuan, and Yang Mutong changed instantly as they hastily focused their minds to resist the effect.
But Yi Beidou simply studied the lifelike Deities with a hint of appreciation in his eyes. Just as they were about to descend upon him, he gave a light wave of his hand.
The next moment, everyone watched as the bodies of the Deities leaning out of the building suddenly shattered, and the illusion vanished completely.
Yi Beidou lowered his arm and, with a single step, crossed the threshold into the building.
A hundred gods repelled with a single wave of his hand.
