Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 473: In the Midst of Chaos (1)
When Myrtle discovered that Adrienne had agreed with Alistair’s conditions, she was shocked and devastated. She hadn’t even gotten the chance to convince Adrienne to reconsider her decision and couldn’t help but feel guilty because she knew she was one of the reasons why Adrienne made such a rushed and potentially regrettable choice.
She also hated how cruel Alistair was, especially considering she was his stepsister, but he still attempted to harm her to threaten Adrienne. She wished she could have done something to protect Adrienne from his manipulation.
"What do we do then?" Myrtle questioned Lennox, who was also visibly upset with Adrienne’s decision. "We can’t just sit here and do nothing, Nox."
"There’s nothing we can do for now but wait, Myrtle. Hopefully, Addie could put Alistair in the bay for a while," Lennox replied with a sigh.
Myrtle could see Lennox beating himself up over being unable to protect Adrienne. She didn’t doubt that he disagreed with Adrienne’s decision, but they also knew Alistair wouldn’t hesitate to cause harm if given the chance.
Myrtle watched as Lennox clenched his fists, the muscles in his jaw twitching with frustration. His usually composed demeanor was cracking under the weight of their circumstances. She knew he was a fiercely loyal friend who would go to the ends of the earth to protect those he cared about. Heck, he didn’t hesitate to beat someone for her sake, and Myrtle knew how hard it was for Lennox to allow his wife to face danger on her own.
Myrtle paced back and forth, her mind racing about what Alistair might do next. She couldn’t bear the thought of Adrienne being trapped in a dangerous situation. She knew that waiting might be the safest option but couldn’t shake off the urgency gnawing at her insides.
"We can’t just wait, Lennox. We need to find a way to protect Adrienne from Alistair’s wrath. I know that he resented Adrienne for choosing you over him." Myrtle declared firmly, her voice resonating with her growing frustration over their predicament.
Lennox looked at her, his eyes reflecting concern.
"Myrtle, I understand your concern, but we must also consider our safety. Alistair is cunning and ruthless. If we act rashly, it could put us all in danger. This is the very reason why Adrienne agreed with his terms."
Myrtle sighed, her shoulders slumping in defeat. She knew Lennox was right, but it was difficult to suppress her protective instincts. She had always been there for Adrienne like a sister should be, and she couldn’t bear the thought of Alistair causing even more harm.
She returned to the guestroom, where she was temporarily staying. Until Gavin returned from his business trip, Myrtle didn’t think she could calm down. As she paced back and forth in the room, Myrtle couldn’t help but replay the unsettling conversation with Adrienne in her mind that morning. She never thought that things would end up this way.
Adrienne was only gone for a night, but Lennox felt like an eternity. As dawn arrived, he sat alone in their shared bedroom, feeling a sense of emptiness that filled the air. He hadn’t gotten a single wink of sleep since she left. He couldn’t help but worry about his wife’s safety.
Of course, he understood Myrtle’s concern. He knew more than anyone else how obsessed Alistair was with Adrienne. Lennox couldn’t even comprehend how Alistair’s mind had become so consumed with thoughts of Adrienne when she’d avoided him from the start.
Lennox leaned forward and rested his head in both hands. It was hard for him to remain calm when he knew Adrienne had sacrificed her safety for the sake of their loved ones. He couldn’t shake off the guilt he felt for not being able to protect her and for not being able to convince her to choose a different path. She willingly went to Alistair because he couldn’t assure their safety, and Lennox f*cking hated himself for that.
As the hours ticked by, Lennox’s worry intensified. He couldn’t bear the thought of Adrienne facing Alistair’s wrath alone. He knew that his wife was strong and resilient, but this time, things were different. Alistair’s manipulative tactics had escalated, and Lennox feared what he could do.
No matter how hard Adrienne convinced him that Alistair wouldn’t dare to hurt her, Lennox couldn’t shake off the nagging feeling in his gut. He knew Alistair was unpredictable, and his obsession with Adrienne made him capable of anything.
Adrienne knew their limitations, and because of this, she didn’t hesitate to take a bullet for them. The thought made Lennox feel cold to the bone. He promised to protect her, but in the end, she protected him.
Alistair would surely try to punish her for choosing to be with him rather than be with him. Lennox feared that Alistair would take his rage out on her and go on to hurt Adrienne in some unpleasant way. Despite his fears, Lennox decided to stay strong for his wife, even though he knew the potential consequences of her decision.
Lennox lifted his head, and his eyes turned cold. He knew he and Adrienne wouldn’t have peace as long as Alistair was in the picture. He promised Adrienne he would stop entertaining violent thoughts against their enemies, but it proved difficult, especially when facing a deranged enemy like Alistair Han. If Adrienne had known what he was thinking, she wouldn’t have forgiven him the third time. He had already failed her twice, and Lennox wasn’t about to betray her again.
But he so desperately wanted to murder that man. Lennox wanted Alistair to suffer the same pain he inflicted on Adrienne in her previous life. He wanted to rip him apart limb by limb and watch him die slowly in front of him. The thought of Adrienne being hurt by Alistair again sent him into a fit of rage, but he remembered his promise to her and forced himself to relax.
He didn’t know how long he could keep his cool, though. Lennox knew Adrienne’s decision to leave and face Alistair in this twisted game was not easy. She had been naive to trust him, but Lennox couldn’t dismiss that it was a desperate move to keep him and their loved ones safe.
Lennox had already sent his brother-in-law the details of Adrienne’s departure, and he expected to receive a call from Hunter soon. Lennox anxiously awaited Hunter’s call, hoping their plan would work.
