Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 467: Come Back to Me (1)
Although Myrtle was safe, Adrienne still couldn’t help but worry about her best friend. It must have been traumatizing for Myrtle to be chased from her home and have to flee for her life. Adrienne hoped Myrtle would recover and find a place where she could feel safe again.
Myrtle told them that those men were merely giving Adrienne a warning that if she refused to cooperate with Alistair’s demands, Myrtle would have to suffer in her stead. Myrtle’s words sent a shiver down Adrienne’s spine. However, it also filled her with an indescribable rage she had never felt before.
Yes, how could she forget? This was how Alistair managed to force her to do his bidding in her past life. He wouldn’t hurt her physically, but he knew exactly how to manipulate her emotions. Alistair would use anyone close to her to manipulate her and make her comply with his demands.
Adrienne ran her fingers through Myrtle’s hair as she slept on her lap. She would never forgive Alistair for subjecting Myrtle to such a traumatic experience. Myrtle had been so terrified. There was a darkening bruise on her arm and knees from where she was thrown on the ground.
Adrienne looked at every injury Myrtle sustained. If only she could return the favor to Alistair a hundredfold, she would do so. She couldn’t wait to ruin him herself and make him feel the same fear Myrtle had experienced.
When Myrtle finally drifted off to sleep, Adrienne silently left the guestroom and found her husband in his study with a grim expression on his face. She had never seen Lennox so angry before that he would lose his sh*t and beat someone to a pulp.
However, she also understood that seeing Myrtle hurt before him had triggered a deep, primal rage within him. If she hadn’t yelled his name, Adrienne wouldn’t doubt that Lennox wouldn’t stop what he was doing. He would have kept pummeling the man who assaulted Myrtle until someone physically intervened.
"Myrtle fell asleep." Adrienne informed him, to which Lennox responded with a slight nod.
"Thank you for saving Myrtle." Adrienne added.
"It’s nothing." Lennox replied, but he refused to meet her gaze this time.
"Don’t say that." Adrienne moved closer to him and cupped his face. She could see the storm of emotions brewing behind his eyes.
"We don’t know what else they could do to Myrtle if you haven’t intervened. Besides, she means a lot to me. You have no idea how scared I was when she was attacked from behind."
Adrienne was so terrified that she would lose Myrtle again. She couldn’t bear the thought of it happening a second time, and she was glad her husband managed to save Myrtle just in time.
"I already gave Gavin a call, but his flight with Kristoff was canceled because of the bad weather. Let’s allow Myrtle to stay with us until they can make it." Lennox informed her.
Adrienne nodded in agreement. She also didn’t think it would be safe for Myrtle to return to her apartment. Those three men who chased her earlier were already apprehended and reported to the authorities, though she had a feeling Alistair would be able to get away unscathed after what he’d done to his stepsister.
"That fucking asshole. I can’t believe he would try to use Myrtle to threaten me like this." Adrienne pulled away from her husband as she couldn’t contain her rage any longer.
Lennox held her hand and sighed.
"Calm down, Addie. We’ll figure this out. Right now, Myrtle needs us. She’s safe, and that’s what matters."
They both knew that Alistair was playing a mind game with Adrienne. But they were determined not to let him win.
Adrienne looked at her husband. It was only now that she could see how desperate Lennox could be. It made her wonder if he was worse when she fell into a coma. She couldn’t imagine the frustration he went through because of her.
She thought she was prepared for Alistair’s attack, expecting him to confront or target her, but she never anticipated the lengths he would go to hurt Myrtle. She wanted to leave the past completely behind her, but Alistair wasn’t going to let her forget it so easily.
Adrienne knew that if she continued to resist him, he would find other ways to make her suffer. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that escaping Alistair’s torment would be nearly impossible unless they put an end to it.
This day started with a nightmare. Things quickly spiraled out of control. Adrienne found herself again in the thick of danger, and she was forced to confront the demons from her past that she had tried so hard to escape. She never imagined that Alistair would resort to such extremes, using Myrtle as a form of manipulation and control over her.
Adrienne just wished there was an easier way—one where she didn’t have to risk everything and everyone she cared about. But that was the harsh reality of the situation. She wished the heavy rain outside could wash away all the pain and turmoil that had consumed her life. The relentless downpour seemed to mirror the chaos within her, with each raindrop a reminder of the tears she had shed in her quest for freedom.
The hold Lennox had on her hand tightened, getting her attention. There were no words spoken between them, but the look in his eyes conveyed a silent understanding and support that she desperately needed.
Adrienne slid onto his lap and wrapped her arms around him. She clung to him as if she never wanted to let go. She didn’t even know she was shaking in his embrace. If Lennox hadn’t managed to save Myrtle just in time, she couldn’t imagine what could have happened to her best friend. The thought sent shivers down her spine.
She silently cried in her husband’s arms, hoping that everything would be okay in the end. No matter what happened, Adrienne knew that she would do whatever it took to protect her loved ones.
She was done running and avoiding Alistair. It was time for her to put an end to this madness.
