Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 435: A Glimpse From the Past (2)
Adrienne could only watch as Gavin helplessly cried over his dead son, feeling a deep sense of sadness and despair. She couldn’t help but feel guilty for tearing the father and son apart with her actions. If only she had paid more attention to Dylan, he wouldn’t have died with her.
Adrienne felt an ominous chill run down her spine as she realized the weight of her negligence. In a daze, she looked at the father-son pair. She saw the devastation in their eyes, knowing that her actions had irreversibly shattered the possibility of them being together.
She then turned her attention to her husband. Adrienne tried to touch him, but her hand went through him as if she were nothing but a ghost. She realized that she was now truly alone.
Lennox couldn’t see her, and she wondered how she had led his life when their paths had never crossed in this lifetime. Was he happy? Did he marry someone else and lead a fulfilling life without her? She couldn’t help but wonder.
When his men pulled out her dead body from the car wreck, Lennox moved and removed the cloth hiding her face. Adrienne’s body had severe burns on her arms and legs, and blood was seeping from her closed eyes and mouth. She looked unrecognizable and in a horrible state.
"You’ve suffered, Miss Jiang. If I hadn’t delayed my recovery, I would have saved you and the boy sooner." Lennox said with regret.
Adrienne, who was in spirit form, shed tears as she looked at her husband. She was happy to learn that he lived and did not pass away, but she was sad that she would never have the chance to meet him in this lifetime.
The scenery around Adrienne shifted, and she screamed as a vortex pulled her away from Lennox. She yelled his name, but Lennox was already disappearing into the distance, becoming smaller and smaller until he was entirely out of sight.
Adrienne shut her eyes, and a bright light greeted her when she opened it. She looked around and saw she was back at the Jiang family estate, where she spent most of her childhood.
A lot of people gathered around, all smiling and celebrating something. Adrienne looked up and saw Elise, with her new husband, announcing her pregnancy. The Ji family and their grandparents were ecstatic about the news, but Adrienne felt resentment and cold at the same time.
Elise and her mother, Camilla, had ruined her chances to have a child by poisoning her body slowly. Seeing Elise announce her pregnancy with her face glowing with happiness, Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy and resentment towards her half-sister.
What about her? What about her chance at motherhood? Adrienne’s blood was boiling with rage. She was denied the joy of motherhood, and it ate at her soul. It also caused her to question her worth as a woman, and she suffered depression, thinking she was not fulfilling her purpose in life.
Neither the guests nor the Jiang family noticed her presence. Adrienne roamed around the place like a ghost, listening to the sounds of laughter and celebration, feeling invisible and insignificant. Every baby shower game and every gift unwrapped only served as a painful reminder of what she longed for but couldn’t have.
Adrienne laughed inwardly. She’d already died. It was pointless for her to dwell on such thoughts any longer. She had accepted her fate and moved on. There was no use in clinging to the past.
The scenery shifted again, and Adrienne found herself in her father’s study. His face had a stern expression as he looked at Camilla and Elise.
"How could you do something like that? Do you know Alistair Han is seeking trouble because you’ve taken his wife away and killed Adrienne?" He asked the two.
"Dad, there’s no need for you to be angry," Elise said with a smile. "Ayla assured us that there wouldn’t be any problem. The Han family had agreed to get rid of Addie so Ayla could take her position. They would deem it as Adrienne running away with her bastard child only to encounter an accident that would conveniently eliminate both of them."
"Dear, the Han family would soon force Alistair to marry Ayla, as she was pregnant with his child. As for Addie, you don’t need to worry about her anymore. Everything she and her mother owned is now in your hands." Camilla said, with a sly smile on her face. She was pleased to know Adrienne and her mother were entirely out of the picture.
"Don’t worry anymore, Dad. Everything is under control and taken care of." Elise said confidently, reassuring her father.
Adrienne glared daggers at the shameless mother-daughter pair. So this was what they were up to. Because her mother died before her, everything under Rosemary’s name and her inheritance from the Zhao family would be passed to Adrienne. However, since Adrienne had already died and the whereabouts of her older brother were unknown, Lewis would get his hands on her possessions.
Adrienne could feel her heart heavy with sadness and resentment. The betrayal cut deep. To think that her father had an involvement in her death, treating her as nothing but a pawn to get a connection with the Han family. It was a pain that would never fully heal.
Thinking about it, each member of the Jiang family had taken something from her and her mother. It reminded her that she and the entire Jiang family cannot live under the same sky. This resentment and betrayal had created an irreparable rift between them.
Even now, she was in this state because of her father. There was neither remorse nor guilt on his face as he spoke about her death. As if she wasn’t his daughter, and he had nothing to do with her demise.
Lewis sighed in relief as if a heavy burden had been lifted off his shoulders. Finally, he felt liberated and no longer carried around the weight of his secrets.
"Well then. I guess I can finally move on from this nightmare."
Adrienne stood quietly, watching the three celebrate her death with a chilling smile on her face. Her eyes were empty, but her heart was filled with inner turmoil and hatred toward them, wanting nothing but to obliterate everything around her.
It turned out that this was what happened after her passing. Her father didn’t shed a tear for her or her mother. Instead, he was more concerned about how her death could affect his reputation and the future of their family. As for her, he only had to ensure that her death wouldn’t leave any loose ends that could implicate them.
