Chapter 67: Chapter 67: His Wife is Very Jealous

At seven o’clock the next morning, Wyatt Winslow drove Holly Winslow to Jarton High to register. By then, Mortimer Quincy was already in the classroom, studying on his own.

When the self-study period was over, Zeke Zane got up to go eat and saw Mortimer Quincy take a cloth and wipe down the two empty desks behind him. He said, "Mortimer, we don’t have cleaning duty this week, do we? That’s next week."

Mortimer replied nonchalantly as he wiped, "I know."

He seemed to be in a very good mood.

Mortimer wasn’t the type to meddle in things that weren’t his business, so Pantheon asked, confused, "Then why are you wiping them?"

"What do you know? It’s Valerie Walsh’s turn to clean today," another male classmate joked as usual.

Mortimer, who hadn’t looked up until now, glanced at the student, his eyes narrowing. "I don’t want to hear that again."

’My girl gets crazy jealous.’

’I don’t want her giving me the silent treatment the moment she gets here.’

’I want to kiss her, hug her, and lift her up high.’

Seeing him suddenly get so serious, the classmate froze for a second. Pantheon, who knew the inside story, quickly tried to smooth things over. "Let’s go, time to eat. If we’re any later, there’ll be no food left."

After wiping the desks, Mortimer checked his watch. It was 7:45. He pulled out his phone, but then thought of Wyatt Winslow and put it away again.

He stepped out of the classroom and glanced toward the faculty office. Seeing no one, he pursed his lips, grabbed his meal card, and headed to the school store, where he bought a large bag of snacks and drinks.

By the time he got back to the classroom, it was 7:56.

The person he was waiting for wasn’t there. He carried the bag back to his seat.

Zeke Zane thought he was acting strangely today. "Mortimer, what’s up with you? You seem really out of it."

Mortimer: "..."

’Is it that obvious?’

Just then, the student who’d made the joke earlier came over and placed a drink on Mortimer’s desk. "Mortimer, sorry about this morning. I won’t say it again. I just have a big mouth and like to joke around," he said, scratching his head sheepishly.

The guys in their group usually hung out together. Even though Mortimer’s personality was a bit cold, he was very straightforward, so he got along well with the other boys.

"It’s fine. Just don’t say it again," Mortimer said, shaking his head. "I’ll treat you guys to a gaming session this weekend."

Paul Powell breathed a sigh of relief and said generously, "No, I’ll treat you guys to games this weekend. I haven’t treated you all in a while."

Pantheon gave him a light punch on the chest. "Haha," he laughed. "In that case, I won’t be polite! I’ll treat you guys to lunch."

Meanwhile, Holly and Wyatt Winslow had found the dean of students. After the dean confirmed her student information, he contacted Gabe Chaucer. When Teacher Chaucer learned that Holly would be boarding at the school, he took them to the dormitory to drop off her things.

The dorm room was 206. There happened to be an empty bed, which was a top bunk.

Wyatt Winslow helped Holly make her bed, and by the time they were done getting her settled, it was already past eight-twenty.

Seeing it was almost time, Gabe Chaucer led them back to the faculty office and gave Holly her textbooks. There were still three or four minutes until the end of class.

The three of them stood just outside the classroom door. Wyatt Winslow looked at his quiet daughter and said in a low voice, "Call me if you need anything."

He paused for a moment. "Let me know if you’re short on money."

Holly felt her nose tingle. In her past life, she always felt that this side of her father showed he didn’t care enough about her. She nodded obediently. "Dad, I know. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself."

Wyatt Winslow grunted, "Mm."

Teacher Chaucer kindly tried to reassure him. "Don’t worry, Mr. Winslow. Mortimer Quincy is also in our class; he’ll help look after Holly."

Holly: "..."

’Teacher, you saying that is just going to make my dad worry even more.’

Wyatt didn’t know Mortimer was a student here, nor did he know about their fake "cousin" relationship. Hearing this, he instinctively frowned. After a dozen seconds, he pursed his lips and said, "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Teacher Chaucer."

Just then, the bell rang. The teacher from the previous class came out, and after a brief greeting with him, Gabe Chaucer led Holly into the classroom.

He clapped his hands, signaling for the students heading to the restroom to wait a few minutes. "Settle down, everyone. We have a new student joining our class. Please make her feel welcome."

"Holly, why don’t you say a few words to introduce yourself? Don’t be nervous, just relax. Everyone in this class is easy to get along with."

The girl wore a thick, pale-yellow sweatshirt, light-blue jeans, and a pink backpack. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail, with a few wisps framing the sides of her face. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

She had very fair skin, and her eyes, clear and full of life, were beautiful.

The whole class let out a collective "Whoa!" The advanced class had far more boys than girls—only seven, to be exact. Aside from Valerie Walsh, the rest were your standard "science-track girls" and weren’t considered particularly pretty.

The smile that had been playing on Mortimer Quincy’s lips vanished at the sound.

Zeke Zane finally understood why Mortimer had been so out of it today.

His girlfriend was here!

"..."

Holly didn’t look at Mortimer. She gave a ninety-degree bow and said politely, "Hello, everyone. My name is Holly Winslow, and I’m a visiting student from Jarton Second High. I hope we can all get along well."

Not only was she pretty, but her voice was pleasant to listen to as well.

The boys in the advanced class clapped excitedly. Pantheon hollered, "Hey, cousin! My name’s Pantheon! I’ll take good care of you, and so will your big cousin! Hahahaha!"

Gabe Chaucer shot Pantheon a glare, silently telling him to behave and not scare the new student. He then turned to Holly and said kindly, "Holly, you can take the empty seat in the back row for now. I’ll be reassigning seats at noon based on academic performance."

He then waved the other students out, no longer delaying their restroom break.

Holly carried her books to the empty desk in the last row and sat down. The desk and chair were spotless.

Holly put down her backpack and glanced outside. Wyatt was still standing on the exterior walkway, watching her. Her eyes stung for a moment, but she gave him a bright smile and waved, signaling for him to head back.

Wyatt nodded but didn’t leave.

Mortimer got up and started walking toward the back. Out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly spotted Wyatt outside the window. Their gazes met. Mortimer: "..."

Wyatt turned and walked away.

Mortimer: "..."

He sat down in the seat next to Holly and whispered, fishing for praise, "Babe, I wiped the desk. How are you going to reward me?"

Hearing the word "Babe," Holly shot him a look and whispered a warning, "Mortimer, behave."

’I don’t want to get busted for dating on my very first day.’

’And get my parents called in.’

Mortimer raised an eyebrow in discontent and began repeating her name. "Holly... Holly... Holly..." He drew out the last syllable in a low, lingering tone.

The two boys in front of them: "..."

’Was Mortimer... pouting?’

Holly: "..."

She ignored him, took out a book and a pen, and began neatly writing her name inside.

Pantheon leaned over with a sly grin. "Heh heh. Mortimer, you’re not much of a friend. Your sis—I mean, cousin, is here and you didn’t even tell us. Here, cousin, have a milk," he said, placing a carton of milk on Holly’s desk.

Holly smiled. "Thank you."

Mortimer shot Pantheon a look. Pantheon rubbed his nose and retreated to his own seat.

Mortimer leaned close to Holly again, whispering, "Babe... babe... babe... babe..."

Holly: "..."

She whipped her head around to face him and, a second later, reached out and pinched his cheek. "Mortimer."

Her pinch distorted the shape of his face.

The entire class fell silent for a few seconds.

Mortimer simply raised an eyebrow, seizing the opportunity to grab her hand. He leaned in closer and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Want a kiss?"
