Chapter 150: Cornering Addison Davenport (2)

For a moment, Addison just stared at me like she didn’t even recognize who I was anymore. And honestly, how could she?

The Helcia she knew was soft, gentle, and never dared to talk back—but I, the current Helcia, had a completely different personality.

Addison probably never imagined that there would come a day when she would be the one getting kicked instead of doing the kicking.

"Madam!" The bodyguards who had been waiting outside rushed in, shoving Lando aside so they could help her.

"You can’t touch her yet." I stepped in front of them, blocking their way with my leg. "She needs to be checked by the doctors first. I mean... she was walking just fine earlier."

Yes, I had kicked her earlier. But honestly? I didn’t even use half my strength. Maybe Addison was simply too old to handle one kick.

I turned my attention to the two doctors who had actually been brought here to examine Addison. One of them was Lando’s private doctor, Dr. Gino, while the other was a doctor sent by the legal authorities.

"Doctors, you can examine her now," I said.

I just hoped Addison’s leg wouldn’t suddenly turn out to be broken because of my kick. But well... if it was broken, she definitely deserved it.

"You didn’t see anything," Lando suddenly said as he shut the hospital door, trapping the two bodyguards inside. "My wife didn’t do anything to her."

"What?" One of the bodyguards frowned, confused because Lando sounded like he was talking nonsense. "What do—"

"Three hundred thousand." Lando pulled a check from the inside pocket of his suit and scribbled something on it, probably the amount he had just mentioned.

"Is this enough for you to keep your mouth shut, walk out of this room, and maybe quit your job today?" he asked.

Both bodyguards widened their eyes as Lando handed them the check, and they saw the number: three hundred thousand dollars.

Damn it...

If I didn’t have a money-making system, I’d probably need two or three jobs just to earn that kind of money. And from the look on their faces, those two bodyguards were clearly thinking the same thing.

Their eyes flicked between the check, Lando, and Addison, who was still on the floor, clutching her leg with a mix of pain and humiliation twisting her face.

One of the bodyguards swallowed hard. "Sir... are you sure?"

"Yes," Lando replied calmly. "Take it. Leave this room. You didn’t see anything today."

The second bodyguard hesitated for only one second before grabbing the check as if it might vanish if he waited too long. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Thank you, sir," he said, instantly bowing with the deepest respect money could buy.

The other bodyguard wasn’t far behind. "W-We’ll be leaving now."

They slipped out of the room quickly and closed the door behind them as quietly as possible, like they were trying to escape from a crime scene.

I pressed my lips together and stared at Lando in disbelief. "You... really just bribed them?"

Lando only shrugged, looking completely calm. "I don’t like wasting time." Then he added, "Besides, you should’ve pushed her instead of kicking her legs."

I raised one eyebrow. "Pushing an old woman is dangerous too! You shouldn’t encourage me to do that."

Back then, my caregiver would punish me if I was ever caught hitting someone—even if it was my bully—yet Lando was actually supporting me instead.

Honestly... I liked it.

"There’s no CCTV in this room," Lando said. "If something bad happens to her, we can just say your mother insisted on practicing how to walk, and it ended tragically."

I clapped my hands excitedly. "That’s such a great idea!"

"You bastards! I will tell the court everything!" Addison screamed suddenly. "One of these doctors must be from the legal authorities!"

Lando walked toward her slowly, then said in a completely casual tone, "I bribed him too."

"Husband, you can’t just bribe everyone like that," I said, pretending to scold him, though my voice was more playful than angry.

"She bribed people until she could fool the court," he replied. "I’m just playing the same game as her."

I was about to say something when I noticed he had walked without his crutches and without even holding onto the wall.

"Are your legs okay?" I asked. "Does it hurt?"

I knew he could walk without his wheelchair, but usually he still walked a bit wobbly. And now... he moved like his legs were perfectly fine.

Was this a miracle?!

Did my husband just suddenly get cured?!

But that hope shattered a second later, when Lando tried to take another step and almost fell. "It hurts... just a bit," he muttered.

I immediately grabbed his arm and guided him to sit on the couch. "You shouldn’t walk so carelessly. What if you fall and hit your head on the wall?"

"I know..." he looked up at me with the saddest, most pitiful eyes. "I’m sorry."

"It’s fine, it’s fine." I patted his shoulder gently, then cupped his face in my hands. "You were only worried about me."

Even though in the end, it was Addison who ended up on the floor instead of me.

Still, whatever happened earlier must have kicked his adrenaline into overdrive, letting him walk without his crutches for a moment.

"There’s nothing wrong with her legs." Dr. Gino’s voice made me turn my attention back to Addison right away.

She was now sitting on the floor, and her face looked even angrier. "You’re just making things up! How can you say my leg is fine without doing an X-ray?!"

Dr. Gino stared at her calmly, not showing even a hint of emotion. "If your leg were truly broken, you would’ve been screaming nonstop since earlier."

Then, without warning, he grabbed her leg and gave it a sudden pull.

Addison’s eyes widened, but she didn’t scream at all, probably because he did it so quickly she didn’t even have time to pretend it hurt.

I clapped my hands happily, a bright smile on my face. "Well then, Mother, I guess you have no excuse to skip the hearing tomorrow!"
