Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 105: He Wouldn’t Be Angry… Right?
"If you want to buy some dresses, hire a makeup artist, or anything else... you can use my card," Lando said. "You still have it, right?"
I quickly nodded. "Yes, yes, don’t worry. I’ve kept it safe." Then I added with a smile, "But about the dress... you don’t have to worry either! I already have something special to wear for the gala."
"What kind of dress?" he asked, curious.
I grinned playfully. "It’s a secret. You’ll see it when we go to the gala."
The truth was, I didn’t actually have any luxury dress yet. But I was planning to buy one from Penny’s store.
She said all the clothes she sold in the system had unique qualities, like making people completely captivated by whoever wore them.
Of course, it depended on the dress’s grade. The higher the grade, the more expensive it was. I didn’t need something too fancy though because that would only cause trouble later.
If I wore a dress that was too high-grade, people might think my natural charm was dull once I wasn’t wearing it anymore. So, I figured it was best to find a balance between the dress and my own charm.
"But husband..." I said softly. "I might not be a famous actress yet, but since people will know us as the illegitimate children duo, I’m sure there’ll be a lot of cameras pointed at us." I hesitated for a moment before asking, "Are you okay with that? Sometimes... people don’t react kindly."
Lando went silent for a moment before leaning forward. "Isn’t this also your first time standing in front of so many cameras?"
I looked away, murmuring, "You could say that."
If only he knew that I was already used to cameras, and even more used to dealing with online hate.
"Then we’ll face it together," Lando said firmly.
I held my breath for a moment before smiling back at him. He was right. We would face it together.
Both of us had spent so much of our lives dealing with things alone: cruel families, hateful people, and strangers who wanted nothing more than to see us break. Now, all we needed to do was hold on to each other whenever the world tried to tear us down.
Besides, like I said before, maybe the public wouldn’t react too harshly toward us since neither of us had done anything terribly wrong yet.
"But if something bad happens, we can just leave the event early," I said with a shrug. "It’s not like many people will notice us anyway."
Lando hummed softly in response, a sign that he agreed.
After we finished talking about the gala, I told him there was a chance I might pass the auditions for two dramas at once.
"I don’t want to sound too confident yet, but... judging from their faces, I think there’s a pretty good chance I’ll make it," I said, grinning.
I was the one doing most of the talking, while he mostly listened in silence. But even as I rambled on, I noticed his hand never once let go of mine.
"But since Green Leaf Production is indirectly under your brother’s umbrella, maybe I should be careful around him," I said.
Lando sighed and finally looked at me seriously. "Even though that production house is under Brix Entertainment’s umbrella, the management runs differently, so he might not even notice that you got in."
"However, if he suddenly uses his position to threaten you, you don’t need to hold yourself back."
Lando locked his eyes on mine and said, "Whatever you do, I will always be by your side, and I won’t hesitate to help you. That’s why, if he does something bad to you, you can kick him or do whatever you want."
I didn’t know exactly what bad thing Kai Brixton had done to Lando, but it sounded as terrible as the bullying he’d suffered from Maxwell Brixton.
Penny wouldn’t have called the mission "Audition in the Enemy’s Territory" if he really wasn’t an enemy after all.
"Is he the one I should watch out for the most?" I asked.
"Yes," he replied without hesitation. "I want you to be careful around all of my family members, but if you can, don’t be alone with Kai."
"Understood." I listened to him without needing to know the reason. If Lando wanted to tell me someday, I would gladly listen. "I’ll only interact with him when I’m with you or someone I trust." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Good."
We stared at each other for a few moments before I stood up from the chair. "Alright, I think I should go now. I’m sure you still have a lot of work to do."
Before I could turn away, Lando grabbed my hand. "Helcia," he said. "I found some information about the illegal website Helena told you about."
I froze and slowly asked, "What... what did you find?"
Lando’s expression darkened, and his grip on my hand tightened slightly. "The site isn’t just some ordinary porn site. My source said it’s also used for illegal auctions. But it seems he still needs to dig deeper. I promise I’ll let you know as soon as I find out more."
I quietly gritted my teeth. What Lando told me felt vague, like he was only giving me a short summary of what he’d discovered.
Still, it seemed like the website’s content was so disgusting and horrifying that he didn’t even want to describe it to me in detail.
If it was really that bad, then maybe... it was better if I didn’t know for now, at least until I could deal with my trauma better.
"I’ll also look for information from the place where she killed herself—"
"She didn’t kill herself!" I blurted out before I could stop myself, startling Lando.
When I realized I had just made a statement without any solid proof, I quickly corrected myself. "I—I mean, I believe she didn’t kill herself."
"She probably tried to run away and jumped when... when she had nowhere else to go," I added quietly.
"You’re probably right," he replied calmly. "Maybe that’s what really happened. That’s why I’ll hire a private detective to look into it."
My eyes widened. "You’d really do that? For me—I mean, for Helena?"
Hiring a private detective who handled serious cases like suicide or murder wasn’t cheap. Sometimes, people even ran out of money before they got any answers.
I knew Lando was rich, but the fact that he was willing to spend so much money for someone he didn’t even know personally truly amazed me.
"Of course," he said. "Helena was your friend, so I’ll do everything I can to help her get justice."
Lando’s expression softened a little, though his tone remained firm. "I’ll make sure the detective I hire is someone reliable," he said. "We’ll find out what really happened to her, no matter how long it takes."
"Thank you," I whispered. "Even if we don’t find anything, at least... at least someone is finally trying."
At least he wasn’t one of those people who turned my case into an "Unsolved Mystery" video just to make money.
"Get some rest," he said, gently patting my hand. "You must be tired after attending two auditions in one day. Tell Henry if you want something specific to eat."
I didn’t say anything at first. Instead, I walked around the table, making him look a little confused. Before he could ask, I bent down and quickly kissed his cheek.
"Thank you," I said softly. "I’m really glad to have a husband like you."
Then I immediately rushed toward the door, only to accidentally trip over the table leg. Luckily, I didn’t fall because that would’ve been beyond embarrassing.
I had no idea what kind of expression Lando made after that since I ran off too fast and shut the door without looking back.
His favorability neither increased nor decreased, meaning that a small kiss on the cheek no longer affected him much, but at least it wasn’t something he disliked.
Was that really true, though? What if he actually thought I’d just harassed him? I didn’t even ask if he wanted to be kissed or not!
I ran to my room as fast as I could, covering my mouth because I couldn’t stop myself from screaming. I even ignored Henry and pushed him aside when he tried to talk to me.
Why did I act so shamelessly? Why did I have to kiss someone without their permission?! If someone suddenly kissed me on the cheek, wouldn’t I be angry?!
But... but if Lando was the one who did that, I don’t think I’d be mad.
"Then... he’s not angry at me, right?" I muttered to myself as I stepped into my bedroom. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that I was scared I might actually have a heart attack.
[Host, do you really think your husband would just stay quiet if he didn’t like it?] Penny said in my head. [Someone like him wouldn’t hesitate to push a woman away if he truly didn’t like the kiss.]
