Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 402 Get Out
Chapter 402: Chapter 402 Get Out
When the light restored in front of her, Lin Zhiyi was already standing inside the spacious suite.
Chen Jin placed the luggage at the entryway.
Then he stepped back, joining Liao Yi and Li Huan.
The three of them said in unison, "Good night."
The door slammed shut with a thud, and they all ran away.
Lin Zhiyi wanted to run away too, but Xingxing shifted slightly.
"Mom, I’m thirsty."
Lin Zhiyi suddenly remembered she had forgotten to bring Xingxing’s small water bottle.
Gong Chen walked to the minibar, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and handed it to Lin Zhiyi: "This will do for now. I’ll have Chen Jin send up a temperature-controlled baby bottle later."
Lin Zhiyi froze for a moment. How did he even know about this?
Hadn’t Li Huan said he’d had a vasectomy?
He shouldn’t be paying attention to these kinds of things.
Thinking this, she crouched down and helped Xingxing drink water, unconsciously glancing in a certain direction.
Gong Chen raised his brow: "Want to confirm something?"
Lin Zhiyi’s cheeks burned, and she quickly lowered her head. In just a few seconds, even her neck turned red.
Seeing her embarrassment, Gong Chen didn’t press further.
"The suite has two bedrooms. You two can sleep in the master bedroom."
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhiyi gave up on resisting.
It was too late now. Xingxing couldn’t handle being restless, and she couldn’t return to the inn either.
Might as well stay here.
Besides, there was something she wanted to clarify with Gong Chen.
Forty minutes later, Chen Jin delivered a set of baby products. They were imported brands, none of which Lin Zhiyi had used before.
She was about to look for a Chinese instruction manual when Gong Chen took the items out of her hands.
"This one’s for washing hair and body; this one’s for her face. This one’s for her body. I also had Chen Jin buy some baby oil; Xingxing’s elbows seem a little dry, probably because of the change in seasons."
"..."
He said everything already. What could she even say?
Suspicious, Lin Zhiyi glanced at Gong Chen, who had turned to wash the temperature-controlled bottle.
After finishing, he adjusted the water temperature for mixing formula, even knowing the precise, standardized temperature.
Lin Zhiyi stood to the side, feeling somewhat unnecessary.
"Did you... secretly have a child?"
"Yes, I just found out. What do you think?" Gong Chen turned and looked at Lin Zhiyi.
Only then did Lin Zhiyi realize he’d actually learned all of this.
For Xingxing?
Thinking of this, Lin Zhiyi wasn’t sure how to react.
This was the life she had once dreamed of in a past life—a husband who cared for the family and loved their child, and a sweet, sensible child.
But now, everything was twisted.
She wasn’t Gong Chen’s wife, and he could, at most, only be Xingxing’s biological father.
In an instant, her mind became a tangled mess of contradictions.
Lin Zhiyi took a deep breath and solemnly looked at Gong Chen: "Don’t be so good to her. You can’t give her anything. Doing this will only fill her with hope before plunging her into despair. Do you have any idea how much that would hurt her?"
Gong Chen spread his arms, leaning on the table, his gaze lowered to conceal his still eyes.
"Like you? Are you despairing because of me?"
Lin Zhiyi turned her head away, silently affirming his words.
The next moment, the tall figure of the man appeared in front of her. She didn’t have time to react; he raised his hand, close to her face.
But just as he was about to touch her skin, he stopped.
Staring intently at her, he spoke softly: "Xingxing looks tired. Go give her a bath and let her sleep."
Lin Zhiyi followed his gaze and saw Xingxing sprawled on the sofa. She nodded briefly: "Okay."
She walked forward, picked up the child, and entered the bedroom.
As she shut the door, she saw the man dressed entirely in black bowed over, studying the formula powder.
She pinched her lips and turned away, stopping herself from overthinking.
Gong Chen was about to mix the formula but realized he didn’t know exactly how much milk Xingxing needed at her age.
He walked over to the bedroom door, intending to ask, and heard the mother and daughter singing from inside the bathroom.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are..."
"Xingxing... haha, Mom, don’t tickle me!"
Hearing their laughter, a faint smile emerged on Gong Chen’s lips. But then he thought of something, and the smile faded into coldness.
The hands hanging by his sides slowly clenched.
He dared not disturb the fragile beauty before him, afraid his involvement would shatter it and turn everything icy again.
He silently listened to the mother and daughter until their singing stopped.
Then, he retreated from the room.
At this moment, Lin Zhiyi emerged from the bathroom holding Xingxing. When she placed her on the bed, she noticed the temperature-controlled bottle on the nightstand and the freshly mixed formula.
Gong Chen likely didn’t know how much milk Xingxing drank, so he didn’t prepare much, only 150 milliliters.
But this figure must have been researched by him.
Xingxing rolled over on the bed, pointing at the nightstand: "Milk, Daddy."
Lin Zhiyi froze, looking at Xingxing.
Xingxing quickly retracted her hand, wrapping herself in the large towel without another word.
Lin Zhiyi picked up the bottle and handed it to her: "Hmm."
Xingxing immediately smiled and obediently drank her milk.
After finishing her milk and rinsing her mouth, she lay back on the bed next to Lin Zhiyi, drowsy.
"Mom."
"Hmm?" Lin Zhiyi lightly patted her back.
"Where’s Daddy?"
Xingxing’s eyes were closed, murmuring like she wasn’t fully conscious.
Lin Zhiyi smoothed her hair and whispered softly: "He’s here."
Xingxing relaxed and fell deeply asleep.
After tucking Xingxing in, Lin Zhiyi paused for a few seconds before walking out of the room to find Gong Chen.
As soon as she opened the door, she almost bumped into the man standing outside.
Startled, she stared at him: "You’ve been here all along?"
"Hmm," Gong Chen murmured in a low voice. "Can I look at her?" freēwēbnovel.com
Lin Zhiyi’s thoughts surged as she slowly lowered her hand holding the doorknob. She turned around and led him into the room.
The room was lit only by the bedside lamp. Xingxing lay on her side, holding the floppy-eared bunny doll that had been with her since she was small, sleeping peacefully.
Gong Chen sat quietly by the bed, looking down at the child, his lowered head seeming to mask an unfamiliar emotion in his gaze.
Tenderness.
Xingxing seemed to sense something and snuggled closer to Gong Chen’s body.
Gong Chen froze, not daring to move for a long time.
He looked a bit ridiculous, completely unlike his usual cold demeanor, but to Lin Zhiyi, it was deeply moving.
Xingxing actually resembled Gong Chen more.
Especially her eyes—when closed, her long lashes cast shadows below, making her features seem especially delicate.
But Xingxing’s heart wasn’t healthy, so her lips were somewhat pale.
Thinking of this, Lin Zhiyi suppressed her emotions and stepped up to Gong Chen.
"What pill did you take that night?"
Gong Chen furrowed his brow, his voice suddenly cold: "Just a regular pill."
"What kind?" Lin Zhiyi demanded, watching the profile of his face.
"It’s all in the past. There’s no need to ask anymore."
His words were dismissive; he clearly didn’t want to continue this topic.
Lin Zhiyi refused to give up. She needed to understand whether there had been a problem with the pill that night.
"Where’s Ye Feifei? If you remember what happened that night, you must know who drugged you. You wouldn’t just let Ye Feifei get away with it, would you?"
Gong Chen remained silent for a long time.
Lin Zhiyi suddenly realized something.
"You... you let Ye Feifei off the hook? Because she’s Sang Ran’s close friend? Do you even know what she did to me? Do you know..."
She harmed Xingxing?
The wave of despair, so powerful it felt like drowning, returned to engulf Lin Zhiyi.
Standing in the dim light, she looked at Gong Chen with bitter anger: "If you love Sang Ran so much, why did you have to come ruin our lives?"
The mattress shifted slightly as the man’s overpowering presence enveloped her.
Lin Zhiyi’s body was pinned against the wall where the light couldn’t reach.
His expression was grim, his breath fast and heavy as he spoke: "I don’t love her. What I love is—"
"Get out."
Lin Zhiyi raised her trembling hand and pointed at the door.
