Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 399: We’ll Settle Our Accounts Later
Chapter 399: Chapter 399: We’ll Settle Our Accounts Later
Thinking of her daughter, Lin Zhiyi still stopped in her tracks.
She shot her daughter a glance, motioning for her to come over.
Her daughter sipped her milk, and in the next second, a little foot poked out from Gong Chen’s coat.
Signaling that she had no shoes.
Lin Zhiyi could only walk over, extending her hand while trying to remain calm: "Third Young Master, this isn’t your child."
"Did I ask?"
Gong Chen pulled the coat around Xingxing’s foot and slowly stood up, pausing in front of Lin Zhiyi.
As the man’s gaze fell upon her, sweat already began to bead on Lin Zhiyi’s back.
Dominant, obsessive.
Yet mixed with another emotion, one that crept toward her softly and gently.
Like vines wrapping around her body, rendering her immobile.
She pressed her lips tightly together, fully aware that Gong Chen appearing here meant there was no way he hadn’t investigated everything.
Lin Zhiyi wanted to flee, but ultimately met the man’s gaze.
The instant their eyes locked, time seemed to freeze around her. She fell into a pair of eyes overflowing with longing and tenderness, deep and enigmatic, nearly drowning her.
Even now, she still wasn’t adept at dealing with Gong Chen. Flustered, she stepped back and nearly fell.
Gong Chen, holding the child in one arm, steadied her by wrapping her waist with the other hand, his grip firm enough to feel embedded in her skin.
Lin Zhiyi trembled all over; the tingling sensation was both unfamiliar and oddly familiar.
She immediately raised her hand to push him away: "Let go!"
"Let go so you can run?" Gong Chen raised an eyebrow.
Lin Zhiyi’s cheeks flushed faintly, her eyes flashing with anger: "All you ever do is coerce people, isn’t it?"
Upon hearing this, the light in Gong Chen’s eyes dimmed slightly. His long fingers loosened their hold on Lin Zhiyi’s waist.
Lowering his gaze, he grabbed Lin Zhiyi’s wrist and stared at the scratches on her hand: "What happened to your hand?"
"None of your business," Lin Zhiyi struggled.
"The child will worry too," Gong Chen said softly.
Lin Zhiyi looked up and saw Xingxing frowning as she stared at her hands.
"Mama, does it hurt?"
Xingxing had always been more mature than children her age, emotionally sensitive as well.
Lin Zhiyi hurried to reassure her: "It doesn’t hurt."
Gong Chen lightly patted Xingxing, speaking in a detached tone: "Should we take her to treat the wound?"
Xingxing nodded solemnly.
Lin Zhiyi bit her lip and glared indignantly at Gong Chen. He still knew exactly how to manipulate her.
Left with no choice, Lin Zhiyi followed Gong Chen to find a nurse.
While the nurse turned to retrieve iodine solution for Gong Chen, her gaze kept darting between Xingxing and Gong Chen’s faces.
Lin Zhiyi frowned tightly.
She couldn’t allow anyone to suspect the relationship between Xingxing and Gong Chen.
"Does it hurt a lot?"
"It’s alright," Lin Zhiyi replied, staring at the crimson traces on her hand, her mind restless.
"Give it to me."
"What...?"
Before Lin Zhiyi could finish speaking, her hands were gently lifted by Gong Chen, brought to his lips.
He softly blew on the scraped skin.
The tingling sensation in her palm jolted Lin Zhiyi back to her senses.
She tried moving her hand, but the man held it tighter. fгeewebnovёl.com
"Don’t move." His long lashes lifted, his voice sounding half-angry, half-reproachful. "We’ll settle our account later."
"Hehehe."
Laughter rang out beside them.
Xingxing sat in the chair, covering her mouth as she giggled.
Her dark, shining eyes locked on Gong Chen, seemingly frozen, brimming not only with curiosity and amusement but also with an unbreakable sense of joy born of blood ties.
She liked Gong Chen.
Just like in the previous life, even if Gong Chen was so aloof.
Though she claimed to dislike her father, the day Gong Chen promised to take her to an amusement park, she was so excited that she couldn’t sleep all night.
She kept asking Lin Zhiyi when it would be morning.
Lin Zhiyi did not want Xingxing to experience again the feeling of being abandoned at any moment.
Taking a deep breath, she looked at the man tending to her wounds, her expression gradually turning cold.
"Third Young Master, what exactly do you want?"
Gong Chen looked at Lin Zhiyi, his gaze scorching: "What do you think?"
Lin Zhiyi bit her lip: "What if we refuse?"
Gong Chen replied indifferently, "I’ll make you agree."
To Lin Zhiyi, that statement sounded like nothing less than a threat.
She glared fiercely at Gong Chen, her treated hand slipping into her pocket.
As Gong Chen tended to the wound on her other hand, she activated the miniature taser hidden in her pocket.
Gong Chen’s body stiffened as a sharp buzz jolted through him.
He stared at Lin Zhiyi, his voice, normally cold and proud, now gravelly and self-deprecating: "You hate me that much?"
"Hate! I hate you! I hate you!" Lin Zhiyi turned away, crying out fiercely.
Gong Chen collapsed heavily to the ground.
Lin Zhiyi switched off the taser and immediately scooped up Xingxing, fleeing the room.
Seconds later, Gong Chen opened his eyes, slowly rising to his feet and brushing off the dust.
He gazed in the direction Lin Zhiyi had left, sighing faintly.
At that moment, the nurse returned.
Gong Chen shot her a glance, warning: "Delete the photos and videos."
The nurse’s shoulders trembled as she clutched her phone tightly: "Yes."
Gong Chen walked out of the treatment room, immediately encountering Li Huan and Liao Yi.
When Li Huan saw him, he pulled Liao Yi and turned away.
"Run, and you’d better not return to Jing City," Gong Chen said coldly.
Li Huan froze, then turned back, trying to appease him: "Come on, it’s not that serious, is it?!"
Gong Chen squinted: "As expected, you’ve known for a while. Looks like Chen Jin won’t escape either."
Speak of the devil—Chen Jin stepped out of the elevator and, hearing this, immediately retreated back inside.
"Third Young Master, I’ll wait for you downstairs."
Directing his ire toward Li Huan.
Li Huan glared at Chen Jin but had no choice but to face Gong Chen.
"Did you see her? Where is she?"
"Ran off."
"What? That’s impossible—you let her escape?"
"She won’t get far. After all, someone’s still here." Gong Chen glanced at Liao Yi standing nearby.
Liao Yi finally snapped out of her daze, pointing to herself: "M-me?"
She wanted to cry but had no tears left.
Just now, the man inside the elevator—what had he called him?
Third Young Master!
Those two words alone spelled trouble for her!
She’d only been a little smitten, but this was too much!
...
At the guesthouse.
Lin Zhiyi carried Xingxing back home, then pulled out a suitcase from the cabinet, stuffing it with all her valuables.
As for clothes, she packed just a few. Those could always be replaced later.
While she was sorting through things, Xingxing put on her shoes and tugged at her skirt.
"Mama, where are we going?"
"As far as possible," Lin Zhiyi said, her hands working nonstop.
"Oh."
Xingxing let go of her, climbed onto the bed, hugged her stuffed rabbit, and began tugging at its ears, lost in thought.
Whenever she had something on her mind, she’d do this.
After a while, she tentatively asked, "Is he... Daddy?"
Lin Zhiyi froze, unsure how to answer.
To nip Xingxing’s yearning for a father in the bud, Lin Zhiyi had defaulted to the story of abandonment.
Xingxing had overheard neighbors joking about it, but she never asked.
She truly was considerate.
So considerate that Lin Zhiyi subconsciously thought of her as the eight-year-old Xingxing instead of the three-year-old she truly was.
But whether eight or three, she was still just a child.
Watching the tiny figure sitting at the foot of the bed, Lin Zhiyi felt a lump in her throat and went over to embrace her.
"Xingxing, I’m sorry, we can’t stay with him."
"Why? Does he dislike me?"
At the familiar question from her past life, Lin Zhiyi could no longer hold back her tears.
She tightened her hold on Xingxing, shaking her head forcefully: "No, that’s not it."
Remaining here and acknowledging the truth would make Xingxing a scorned illegitimate child.
But how could she explain that to Xingxing?
Xingxing helped wipe her tears and said thoughtfully, "Mama, let’s leave."
