Chapter 112: Chapter 112 What Really Happened?
Chapter 112 -112 What Really Happened?
Slap!
Gong Yan’s face was struck askew by a slap from Lin Zhiyi.
His features contorted in an instant, turning ferociously terrifying.
The next second, he grabbed Lin Zhiyi’s wrist and yanked her in front of him.
“Did you treat him the same way?”
“Let go of me!”
Lin Zhiyi struggled fiercely, but her body was flung onto the hospital bed by Gong Yan.
Because of inertia, she couldn’t control herself and scattered the documents at the foot of the bed onto the floor.
The papers spread out, and she saw one with Gong Yan’s signature on it.
It was as if she had seen something astounding, disregarding the pain in her body, she picked up that paper from the ground and scrutinized it repeatedly.
“Is this your signature?” Lin Zhiyi pointed to the character ‘Gong’ on it.
“Yes.”
Gong Yan realized it was just a hospital bill and didn’t take it to heart.
Lin Zhiyi then realized how grievously she had erred.
“The dress for the competition wasn’t bought by you, right?”
“…” Gong Yan’s face tensed, and he didn’t speak.
“And the lawyer’s letter suing Song Wanqiu’s fans wasn’t from you either, right?” Each word Lin Zhiyi uttered seemed bitter to her as she remembered past events.
Gong Yan tried to change the subject, “Zhiyi, these things don’t matter. You promised me that no matter what I did wrong, you wouldn’t hate me.”
“So you deceived me with a clear conscience?” Lin Zhiyi shook the paper in her hand, her neck veins bulging.
“Zhiyi, that’s because I care about you…”

“Shut up! Don’t use me as an excuse anymore! It’s disgusting, really disgusting!”
Lin Zhiyi crumpled the paper in her hand and hurled it at Gong Yan’s face.
Gong Yan dodged to the side, which gave her the chance to escape. She dashed out of the hospital room without looking back.
Gong Yan called out her name unwillingly from behind.
“Zhiyi, Zhiyi…”
After Lin Zhiyi descended the stairs, she rushed into the veil of rain, her cheeks wet; she could no longer distinguish between the rain and her tears.
Her phone rang three times before she regained her composure and answered.
“Zhiyi, where are you?”
“At the hospital,” Lin Zhiyi answered with pale lips.
As soon as Liu He heard this, she knew whom Lin Zhiyi had seen. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke, “I’m at the Gong Family’s place waiting for you.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Lin Zhiyi took a taxi to the Gong Mansion.
As soon as she got out of the car, she saw Liu He, anxiously rushing over with an umbrella at the gate.
Liu He, seeing her miserable state, could hardly bring herself to chide her.
“Are you not caring for your health? At least use an umbrella! What if you catch a cold? Don’t let being young lead to lasting health issues!”
Listening to Liu He’s words of concern, Lin Zhiyi couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into tears in her arms.
“Mom, I’m sorry.”
“Mom, what’s the truth after all? Why is even what I see with my own eyes fake?”
“Why has everything changed?”
Liu He didn’t know what Lin Zhiyi was talking about but hurriedly embraced her and walked toward the house.
“I don’t know what’s true or false; all I know is that you’re too cold, hurry and come inside with me.”
Lin Zhiyi let herself be led away.
As she passed through the garden, she saw a figure hurriedly making his way toward the deepest part of the Gong Mansion.
She lifted her eyes and stared intently at the last imposing building in the courtyard, feeling an inexplicable sense of panic.
She grabbed Liu He’s hand, “Mom, is that Uncle?”
Liu He followed her gaze, raising her voice and calling out twice, “Husband, husband…”
Gong Shiyan seemed to be in a hurry, his pace getting faster with each step, totally unaware of Liu He and Lin Zhiyi.
Liu He looked around suspiciously and said, “Isn’t that the way to the ancestral shrine? There have been no family events recently, so why would he go there?”
The ancestral shrine.
Lin Zhiyi’s thoughts were pulled far away, and a scene emerged in her mind.
In her previous life, because of her and Xingxing’s affair, Old Mr. Gong had several times sent Gong Chen to wait for him at the ancestral shrine.
And then, she wouldn’t see Gong Chen for the following week.
She always thought that it was Gong Chen who did not want to see them, and for Xingxing’s sake, she would also intentionally avoid Gong Chen with Xingxing.
Lin Zhiyi was pondering this when suddenly a bolt of lightning split the sky, casting a gloomy pall over the ancestral shrine. Accompanied by a thunderous roar, her heart felt as if it had been pierced by a great hole.
She could even feel her blood surging and boiling with an uncontrollable panic.
When Lin Zhiyi came back to her senses, she had already been brought back to the courtyard by Liu He, who was wiping her hair with a dry towel.
“Go change into a set of dry clothes right away.”
It was only after Liu He finished speaking that she remembered that she had moved out, not even leaving a piece of clothing behind to reassure Old Mr. Gong.
Liu He’s eyes reddened, her lips pursed as she said, “I’ll go get a set of my clothes.”
Lin Zhiyi nodded numbly.
After changing into clothes, Liu He looked at her pale face and said worriedly, “I’m going to make you a bowl of ginger tea.”
Lin Zhiyi quickly stopped her, “Mom, I’m fine now. Did you call me here for something else?”
Liu He did not answer immediately but poured her a cup of hot tea and handed it to her before letting out a slight sigh.
“After you hung up on me, I was restless, so I asked around for gossip about the Chen Family.”
“I never expected our Madam to be such a skilled actress; on the surface, she seems uninvolved with the world, but behind the scenes, she’s fighting and grabbing with all her might.”
“The Chen Family’s ambition has always been significant, scheming hard to tie the knot with the Gong Family, thinking it would lead to soaring success. But after the Chen Family’s eldest son’s investment failure and the family’s vitality greatly injured, the Madam began leeching off her eldest son. Even Old Mr. Gong once sneered at her for not knowing restraint.”
“When the eldest son suddenly died in a car accident and she fell ill right after, everyone praised her for her profound affection, and the matter was dropped.”
“With the eldest gone and her being sick, and your uncle not being leadership material, Old Mr. Gong finally handed over the reins to Lao San.”
At this point, the hand holding the teacup trembled slightly, as Lin Zhiyi remembered Gong Yan’s words filled with resentment.
‘I lost even my father, and you dare say it has nothing to do with Gong Chen?’
Aside from his utmost tolerance for Song Wanqiu, Gong Chen was ruthless with anyone else, never relenting until his goal was achieved.
She pursed her lips and said, “Mom, could it be for… Little Uncle in order to…”
“Shh, don’t talk nonsense,” Liu He interjected in a low voice, explaining, “What do you take the Chen Family for? Chen Sulan’s brother, who is now the president of the Chen Group, has done God knows what in secret to sabotage Lao San’s business. With Lao San’s capabilities, he could have crushed the Chen Family three or four times over, yet he didn’t go for the jugular just because of their family ties, did he?”
Liu He’s words almost overturned most of Lin Zhiyi’s memories.
In her memory, both Chen Sulan and the Chen Family had been good to her.
That’s why she could not bear to have Chen Sulan and Gong Yan banished abroad, not allowed to return to the country by Gong Chen.
And now, everything was turned upside down.
Lin Zhiyi still found it hard to believe, “Mom, are you sure about your information? How come I didn’t know anything about this at all?”
“Of course, you wouldn’t know. I didn’t know even with Chen Sulan right under my nose; who would dare to talk about such matters frivolously? It was revealed during a chat when Chen Group people went to buy things in the brand VIP room. Those who can get into the VIP room are definitely not ordinary employees; they must be from the upper echelons of the Chen Group.”
Liu He covered her mouth, her voice very low.
Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi’s eyes revealed a trace of confusion and blankness, as if shrouded in fog.
The Chen Family dared to compete with Gong Chen for business, and Gong Yan must have been helping.
No wonder Gong Chen wouldn’t let Gong Yan enter the center of power within the Gong Group.
As her eyes drifted off, the sky roared violently, and Lin Zhiyi, feeling panicked, dashed the cup in her hand and instinctively stood up, looking toward the direction of the ancestral shrine…
