Reborn in the 80s: She Rewrites Life with Radiance-Chapter 87: The Feeling of Home
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: The Feeling of Home
After Ye Hao left, Gu Yi checked the house again.
This was a new experience for her.
In her past life, because she didn’t have a house in the barracks, she would always stay in Ye Hao’s single dormitory whenever she came.
She went to the kitchen, wanting to see what she could make for dinner.
But when she got to the kitchen, she saw that there were no ingredients. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
The rice, flour, oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar were all bought; there were a lot of seasonings too, but they were new and unopened.
Probably because she didn’t come, Ye Hao couldn’t be bothered and just ate in the canteen alone.
She took some money and headed out the door.
After she left, she went straight towards the barracks’ main gate.
She knew there were some local villagers selling vegetables to the right outside the gate, and with some luck, she’d even find meat and fish vendors.
Their courtyard was a bit of a distance from the apartment buildings but was close to the gate, and she didn’t encounter anyone along the way.
When she reached the entrance, it was the same sentry she saw when she came in.
"Sister-in-law, heading out?"
"Yeah, there are no vegetables at home, so I’m going out to buy some."
"Oh, well, head out and go right; it’s not far, there are villagers selling stuff there."
The sentry even pointed out the direction for her, just in case she didn’t know.
"Alright, thank you. I’m new here, still getting familiar with things."
Gu Yi didn’t mention she already knew; she simply accepted his kindness, thanked him, and went in the direction he pointed.
Gu Yi had pretty good luck today; although there wasn’t any meat, there was someone selling fish, and the fish were still alive.
"Young lady, buying fish? You came at the right time. I just got these out of the reservoir. They’re still alive, see?"
In the end, Gu Yi saw the fish were fresh and bought two, one weighing over a pound and the other heavier, around two pounds.
She also bought some eggs, peppers, potatoes, lettuce, along with garlic, ginger, and green onions.
She greeted the sentry at the gate and hurried back home.
She found a large bucket, filled it with water, and put the two fish in it.
Luckily, she ran back fast enough, and the fish were still alive.
She thought that since they wouldn’t eat much tonight, she’d cook the smaller fish and save the larger one for lunch tomorrow; it would make two meals.
At four-thirty, she started cooking.
She first set the rice to cook, then cleaned the fish and prepared the other dishes.
By the time the rice was done steaming, she could stir-fry her dishes.
Thinking it was just the two of them for dinner, she simply cooked the fish, stir-fried some lettuce, and made egg drop soup.
As soon as Ye Hao entered the courtyard, he smelled the aroma of food.
To him, this sense of home was a brand new experience.
After training, he no longer returned to a cold dormitory.
He pushed open the door to see Gu Yi wearing an apron, bringing dishes from the kitchen to the table.
Maybe it was too hot, so a few strands of Gu Yi’s hair were damp and stuck to her face.
Even though Gu Yi looked a bit disheveled, Ye Hao thought she was the most beautiful he’d ever seen, and his heart couldn’t stop pounding.
Gu Yi put down the plate and turned around to see Ye Hao standing by the door.
"Why are you standing there? Come in quickly. I’ve finished cooking. If you’re hungry, start eating first. I need to take a shower. It’s too hot!"
Saying so, Gu Yi took off her apron.
She rummaged through her bag to find clothes.
Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Ye Hao chuckled, shaking his head at his foolishness. He took off his sweat-soaked training clothes and went into the room to find his own clothes.
Seeing that Gu Yi hadn’t come out yet, he turned back into the kitchen.
He found two bowls, scooped some rice into them, then went back into the kitchen to fetch two pairs of chopsticks, setting them on the table.
Once finished, and seeing Gu Yi was still in the shower, he cleaned up the kitchen.
Only upon hearing the bathroom door open did he step out of the kitchen.
"You should shower too. Go on! You’re all sweaty. Wash up first, then eat."
When Ye Hao had come in earlier, Gu Yi had been too hot to notice his sweat-soaked state. Seeing him exit the kitchen with wet hair, she quickly urged him to shower.
"If you’re hungry, you can start. No need to wait."
Ye Hao went into the bathroom with clean clothes, not forgetting to bring his damp training uniform as well.
Gu Yi thought she’d cook earlier tomorrow to avoid making Ye Hao wait in his sweaty state.
Looking at the two bowls of rice on the table, she dashed to the kitchen to grab two more bowls for the living room.
She ladled two bowls of soup and placed them beside the rice.
Ye Hao had a speedy shower.
Gu Yi had barely finished serving the soup when he emerged from the bathroom.
"Did you wash properly?"
Gu Yi couldn’t hold back and blurted out her thoughts.
"I should be clean. Want to check?"
Ye Hao stood in front of Gu Yi, pretending to remove his clothes.
"Hey, hey, okay, okay, my mistake, let’s eat!"
Gu Yi felt Ye Hao was constantly pushing the boundaries of shamelessness in front of her.
Seeing her blushing face, Ye Hao laughed out loud.
"I’m just teasing you. I rushed because I thought you were hungry. Let’s eat."
Ye Hao took Gu Yi’s hand, guiding her to sit by the table.
He sat down opposite her.
"Why did you serve soup too?"
Looking at the bowl of soup and rice before him, Ye Hao knew that Gu Yi had served them.
"It’s so hot; drink some soup first."
"Okay."
Ye Hao lifted the bowl and took a sip.
"It’s delicious."
"Try the fish. I got lucky today—found someone selling fresh, live fish as soon as I went out. I bought two and saved the bigger one for tomorrow. It’s in the bucket; have you seen it?"
While sipping her soup, Gu Yi pointed at the bucket containing the fish for Ye Hao to see.
"I hadn’t noticed."
Ye Hao said, grabbing a piece of fish to eat.
"How’s it taste? Is it good?"
Gu Yi tasted it while cooking and found it delicious; she was eager for Ye Hao to compliment her.
"It’s very tasty. My wife’s cooking is the best!"
Ye Hao cooperatively grabbed another bite.
"It’s not as exaggerated as you say."
Though Gu Yi said this, the beaming smile on her face betrayed her good mood.
Gu Yi drank a bowl of soup and ate a small bowl of rice before feeling full.
The rest of the food ended up in Ye Hao’s stomach.
After they finished washing the dishes, it was already dark outside.
Gu Yi worried that Ye Hao might have overeaten and get indigestion at night.
"How about we go for a walk? We ate quite a bit tonight."
"Sure, it is a bit early to sleep now, huh?"
Ye Hao dragged out the word ’huh’ suggestively.
"Deputy Battalion Commander Ye, what are you thinking about all the time?"
Gu Yi playfully smacked him with a look of disdain.
"I’m always thinking about my wife, you."
Ye Hao wrapped his arms around Gu Yi and stole a kiss.
Gu Yi playfully swatted at him while dodging.
"Stop fooling around, come walk with me."
Ye Hao held Gu Yi in his arms without moving for a while.
"Alright, let’s go for a walk."
Gu Yi and Ye Hao walked the same path she first came to, with the same trees lining the original road.
But their moods were different from back then.
