Reborn: I'll Never Fail My Childhood Sweetheart Again-Chapter 179 - 88: The Package from Junior Schoolgirl (Part 2)
"Xiaosu, you're here, come in and have a seat!"
Kang Yulian was very enthusiastic.
"Hehe, thank you, Auntie. By the way, while I was on my way, I saw that the roadside fruit store had big discounts on wax apples and cherries, so I bought some on the way."
Su Zelin casually placed the box on the living room coffee table.
"Oh, Xiaosu, you really didn't need to buy any fruit, just coming over for a meal is enough!"
Even though she said that, the Vice Director's wife was all smiles. This big box of fruit was certainly not cheap, especially since both wax apples and cherries are luxury fruits she wouldn't usually buy. Now, she could finally give them a try.
Sitting in the living room, Dai Chuangxing glanced at that mineral water box and thought to himself that this young man, even though he looked only seventeen or eighteen, was very meticulous and considerate in his actions.
"Xiaosu, have some tea with Uncle Dai first, dinner will be ready soon!"
"Sure thing, Auntie!"
It was his third visit, and despite being a university freshman facing the Vice Director, Su Zelin wasn't at all restrained. After all, his soul wasn't that of a young boy.
While having tea, Dai Chuangxing chatted with him casually, asking about Su Zelin's experiences at the academy this week but didn't mention anything about the storefront proposal.
Su Zelin wasn't in a hurry. He knew very well that Kang Yulian inviting him over for a meal wasn't as simple as it seemed, as they weren't that close yet. It must have been under Dai Chuangxing's instruction.
During the meal, it was all casual chatter. Kang Yulian was amiable and treated him like a family relative, while Dai Chuangxing made occasional comments. This was just Vice Director Dai's personality; he didn't talk much. But in his previous life, Zelin had known him pretty well. One time, when visiting Shenghai and having a few drinks while being entertained by some rascals, Dai Chuangxing had shared many heartfelt thoughts.
After the meal, Vice Director Dai finally got to the point. He cleared his throat: "Xiaosu, about your proposal for your cousin to invest in a digital store at the academy, offering discounted computer rentals to financially struggling graduating students and providing work-study opportunities for those in need, I submitted it to the academy. After a discussion, the leadership agreed it was a good initiative and have shown strong support!"
This result didn't surprise Su Zelin. Dai Chuangxing was known for his integrity and had never been involved in the academy's high-level administrative games. This was the first time he had requested something, and others were naturally willing to give him face.
Besides, the few abandoned warehouses didn't hold much value. They weren't in a prime location and were outside the popular commercial area of the campus, or someone would have proposed converting them into rental shops long ago.
The only existing computer store couldn't sustain itself, having transferred ownership recently, highlighting the issue further.
Additionally, Zelin's proposal was also appealing since it not only involved business but also genuinely addressed issues faced by underprivileged students. So, there was no reason for anyone to oppose it.
Thus, when Dai Chuangxing proposed it, a simple meeting was held, and the procedure was just a formality. The academy's official stamp was quickly affixed, putting Vice Director Dai in charge of the matter. Furthermore, it claimed that considering the poor location of the storefronts, a rent discount could be considered.
In other words, the rental amount could be determined by Dai Chuangxing, as long as it wasn't too outrageous.
"Thank you, Vice Director Dai."
Su Zelin nodded with a smile, seeming satisfied but not overly surprised.
Dai Chuangxing noticed this, thinking to himself that Zelin was indeed steady, completely unlike a college student. His speech and social skills were like those of a seasoned veteran.
This time, the Vice Director didn't invite Su Zelin into the study for a private talk. Kang Yulian was also present. This matter wasn't against principles and didn't require secrecy.
"Hehe, I knew the academy would agree. Xiaosu's idea is brilliant; it can help many underprivileged students!"
Kang Yulian washed and brought over some wax apples, cherries, and crystal grapes, placing them on the table while happily inviting Xiaosu to eat.
Dai Chuangxing nodded, took out a document from his briefcase, and handed it to Su Zelin: "Those warehouses have been cleared. This is the rental agreement, take a look."
Su Zelin took the contract, skimmed through it, mainly focusing on the rent, and his eyes lit up.
The rent was much lower than he had anticipated, which was a big win, far outweighing the cost of the television and air conditioner he had gifted!
Moreover, the lease terms were flexible, allowing for both short and long rentals, with no penalty fees for cancellation. This meant that if he ever decided not to rent anymore, he could easily leave without incurring any financial loss. It seemed the Vice Director was concerned about his ability to sustain the business, given the previous lack of success in that location.
This was Dai Chuangxing's first time using his position for personal gain, and it was quite "innocent." If it were another crafty old fox, they might have tampered with the rent. Though the rent would not be exorbitant due to the poor location, they would definitely have taken a cut somehow. Clearly, Vice Director Dai didn't do this; he genuinely intended to help.
With such sincerity, Su Zelin naturally couldn't be stingy either. Long-term mutual benefit was key to maintaining collaboration and strengthening relationships.
So, with a smile, he said, "Vice Director Dai, I'm quite satisfied with the contract and rent, but I have one more thing to ask."
Dai Chuangxing frowned. Although Su Zelin had gifted him two valuable home appliances, the fair contract could be considered as a return. He didn't want the other party to become overly demanding.
However, Vice Director Dai patiently said, "Go ahead."
"My cousin will soon start renovating the digital store to have it ready before the New Year, but we haven't found a suitable manager yet. You and Auntie know many people; do you have any recommendations? There's no educational requirement. We just need someone young and energetic, quick-witted, with good communication skills. The monthly salary starts at two thousand, and besides that, I'm offering a ten percent shareholding bonus!"
Dai Chuangxing was slightly taken aback. This wasn't about asking him to do more, but rather giving him a generous offer!
In this era, in most small cities, an average wage earner's salary was about three to five hundred yuan, and in Lin'an, it might be a bit higher, around seven hundred at most. Two thousand was three times the average wage, which was quite generous!
Moreover, there's a ten percent shareholding bonus!
It was clear that this wasn't just for the manager; it was also linked to himself.
Kang Yulian naturally understood the underlying meaning and cheerfully said, "I thought the two appliances showed great sincerity already, but I underestimated Xiaosu. He's truly a big spender, no wonder he's someone who achieves great things."
Of course, this generous gift from Su Zelin wasn't random. He genuinely needed a store manager and knew that Dai Chuangxing and Kang Yulian could certainly recommend a good candidate.
That person was someone Zelin knew from his previous life; he was well-suited for managing a digital store.
The requirements he just stated were actually tailored for that person, who would probably realize it soon.
"Xiaosu, you know, I really have just the right person to recommend to you," Kang Yulian eagerly said. "I have a nephew who's smart, articulate, and diligent, but he just wasn't interested in academics. He started working right after graduating from middle school, and he's accumulated a lot of experience over the years. He's currently working as a network administrator at an internet café, familiar with computers. How about I let you meet him when you have time?"
Su Zelin was waiting for her to say that because, due to his connection with Dai Chuangxing, he knew Kang Yulian's nephew in his previous life too. Although he wasn't highly educated, he was indeed talented. He had left school after middle school and had worked his way up over the years to become a city-level sales manager for a major corporation in the digital industry, especially good at business development.
However, at present, this person was still a raw talent, not yet fully tapped.
