Reborn Heiress: Seeking Revenge-Chapter 85: The Strange Physiognomist (1)_1
Chapter 85: Chapter 85: The Strange Physiognomist (1)_1
Excitement? Why would she see excitement? Anyone who saw the scene unfolding before them would show surprise and shock; only in the old man’s eyes did she perceive a wholly different excitement.
Zhuge Feng’s watery eyes were filled with utter astonishment and disbelief. He was absolutely certain that the lake was undergoing some abnormal change, not simply leaking because a drain had come loose.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please don’t worry," the manager began, nodding after Zhuge Feng gave him a subtle signal. "The reason the water is draining so quickly is because the drain at the bottom of the lake has loosened. We regularly change the water in this small lake, and since the drain has loosened, the water is continuously flowing into the drainage system beneath."
Some people, however, didn’t accept this explanation and continued to take photos with their phones.
The manager continued, "So please don’t worry. It’s quite normal for a drain to come loose. You can enjoy the scenery by the lake, or you can continue your meal inside. When enough of the water has drained, everyone will be able to see the drain at the bottom of the lake. To facilitate cleaning, the drain was built larger than usual, which is why you’re seeing a whirlpool. There’s no need for panic."
Upon hearing the manager’s explanation, the surprised onlookers gradually began to show signs of understanding. Indeed, now that he had mentioned it, the whirlpool in the lake’s center did resemble one caused by a drainage outlet.
"Girl, why are you all wet?" A gentle voice sounded, and Shangguan Qing’s tall figure soon shielded Shangguan You. He looked at her drenched state, her hair sticking to her forehead, a look of distress flashing across his handsome face.
"Youyou, did you fall into the lake?" Gui Mo’s voice also joined in. He stared at the disheveled Shangguan You, his eyes widening, especially upon seeing the beige coat she wore, his gaze constantly sweeping between her and Zhuge Feng.
"Miss Shangguan, are you alright? Do you want to change your clothes to avoid catching a cold?" Shen Cheng’s distinctive voice echoed, concern etched on his face as he looked at Shangguan You.
"I’m fine," Shangguan You replied faintly, then shifted her gaze to the grandfather and grandson on the ground.
"It was because of saving me that this Sister jumped into the water and ended up like this. Zhuo Chen thanks Sister for saving my life." A weak voice piped up as the little boy, trembling all over, struggled to his feet.
"Miss Shangguan, thank you for saving my grandson. I owe you a favor, and this old man Qi is very grateful," Old Man Qi said as he rose from the ground, steadying the child. He expressed his gratitude to Shangguan You, though his eyes were so bright they made her somewhat uneasy.
Shangguan You looked at the old man, whose eyes glinted sharply, and felt an inexplicable lurch in her heart. Could he have seen something? She quickly dismissed the thought. Even if this old man were remarkably insightful, he couldn’t possibly discern the fact of her rebirth.
She recognized this old man. He had been close to her grandfather. Whenever her grandfather encountered irresolvable problems or perplexing matters, he would seek out this man to discuss them. Shangguan You had seen him a few times at their home. To be precise, this old man was a physiognomist.
The profession of physiognomy was common in contemporary society. From a scientific perspective, it was dismissed as superstition—effective if you believed in it, ineffective if you didn’t. It was because of her grandfather’s connection to this particular physiognomist, whom she remembered, that she had jumped into the lake to save the boy.
Her grandfather once said this physiognomist was mystical, and his predictions were remarkably accurate. However, destiny was hard to alter. It was nearly impossible to change without someone willing to sacrifice their own life. Even then, whether it would completely alter the outcome remained unknown, as no one—not even the old man himself—had ever attempted it.
Shangguan You had never paid much heed to her grandfather’s affairs, with the sole exception of this physiognomist. Her grandfather had insisted she must never forget him and had also uttered some cryptic words that she couldn’t recall clearly.
It was due to this connection with her grandfather that she had jumped into the water to save the child. The boy had revived after consuming her Jade Dew Pill, thereby altering his destiny. This could be considered her way of doing something for her grandfather.
"Elder, there’s no need for such politeness. It was merely a helping hand," Shangguan You smiled gently at Old Man Qi and Zhuo Chen. She didn’t take their politeness to heart; she hadn’t saved them expecting repayment.
"Miss Shangguan, you saved my Zhuo Chen today, allowing him to safely navigate a day of great peril in his life. I owe you a favor. Although you are a person of great fortune, should you encounter any insurmountable problems in the future, you may come to this address to find me. I will undoubtedly do my utmost to repay your life-saving grace." Old Man Qi handed Shangguan You a piece of paper with an address, then, supporting the drenched Qi Zhuochen, he strode away.
Shangguan You watched Old Man Qi depart, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. She hadn’t mentioned her name; how did he know she was a Shangguan? As their figures retreated, she found herself calling out involuntarily.
"Zhuo Chen’s clothes are soaked! In this weather, he could easily fall ill. Let him change into dry clothes before you leave."
"Thank you, Sister. Zhuo Chen isn’t cold," Qi Zhuochen insisted, though his voice trembled. Shangguan You mentally rolled her eyes.
Old Man Qi also declined. "There’s no need. Thank you for your kindness, Miss Shangguan. This chill is nothing compared to death. You should be the one to change your clothes quickly."
"As for you, sir," Old Man Qi paused before Zhuge Feng, his gaze shifting between him and Shangguan You. "You will face a calamity of bloodshed in the coming days. It would be best to remain indoors to avoid it. Otherwise... alas." He trailed off, saying no more.
"A bloody disaster," Zhuge Feng chuckled, clearly not taking it to heart. When had his life ever known peace? fгeewebnovёl.com
"Is there a way to avoid it?" Shangguan You’s heart leaped, and she hurriedly asked. If she hadn’t known a little about the old man’s background, she would have dismissed him as a lunatic spouting nonsense.
