Reborn for Revenge: Find her Fated Alpha-Chapter 173: Strength
The sand under Amelia felt warm, a bit warmer than she would have preferred, as she stood under the scorching sun along with all the Lunas who were participating in the Queen trials.
Her gaze swept over the arena, the crowd cheering for them from the bleachers while someone played a trumpet to announce the arrival of King Cyrus.
Amelia took a deep breath, her gaze meeting Cyrus’s for a brief, fleeting second, but it was more than enough for her to know that Grayson’s condition was much more stable now.
She turned to the right side of the arena, where Kyle was, just as he had promised her, and a soft smile appeared on her face when he nodded at her before giving her a thumbs up to wish her luck.
It was nerve-wracking. The onlookers appeared more interested in the upcoming bloodbath that was set to occur in this warm soil during the first round of the trials.
The first round was always the most straightforward. Strength. Eliminating the girls who can’t even defend themselves, let alone the crown and its dignity.
It was more than a test of power. It was a test for endurance, agility, and above all, survival skills.
Amelia stood there as Cyrus stood before his seat, her heart pounding against her chest.
Every noble, the alphas, the betas, and their family members were present, along with a few spectators from other species, who sat there, some with curiosity, some with morbid anticipation, and some with pure disdain.
Her group of friends was also there in the bleachers. The university has declared a memorable holiday for the trial days, keeping everyone’s well-being in mind. They had messaged her that they would cheer for her.
"I, King Cyrus Valentino, welcome you all to the spectacular ritual of choosing the queen, the rightful Luna for the throne, for the Alpha King, to the Queen Trials," Cyrus said, and everyone hollered with applause.
Amelia kept her gaze neutral as the Lunas looked at each other, some to check their opponents, some to force their domination, and to show their power.
Amelia’s gaze met with Hannah, who had a smirk on her face, making Amelia feel a little uneasy.
She couldn’t appear weak, not at this moment when it mattered most.
Cyrus looked at his cousins, Rowena and Cassius, and nodded at them.
"Since we don’t want any Luna to hurt each other lethally and save any political animosity, we have a slight change in the rules," Rowena announced.
Amora looked at Cassius before looking at Cyrus. She wanted to object, but wanted to hear what the change was first.
"The Lunas and all the respective participants, rather than fighting each other, they’ll be fighting a group of monsters, each powerful in its way," Cassius said.
The gates of the arena groaned, and everyone’s gaze turned to the particular area that had long bars almost reaching the first row of the bleachers.
As soon as the doors opened, around 10 monsters, each tall, broad, brooding, dominant, and with a blade in each hand, entered the arena.
Amelia’s pupils dilated, and she turned to look at Kyle, who had the same shocked expression as hers.
These were no normal monsters. These were rogueborn gladiators.
Seeing the monsters, the crowd cheered for the Lunas.
"Don’t worry. You won’t be left alone. Each Luna would be given a sword to protect herself from any attack. The remaining numbers would go to the next round. Every Luna who falls unconscious is considered out of the round," Cassius said.
Soon, a few men walked up to them with platters of swords, and Amelia sighed.
This was going to be different from what she had thought, but at least she wouldn’t have to deal with the guilt of hurting any Luna.
"Let the first round begin!" Cassius announced, and the monsters started to run towards them in full swing.
Amelia took a deep breath, letting her energy flow into the sword she was holding, rolling her shoulders as she lowered a bit to take her stance.
As soon as the man lunged at her, she raised her sword before bringing it down with a force that the monster wouldn’t even have thought about.
She thought this attack would hurt the monster terribly. But she was surprised when the sword made a clinking sound as soon as it hit the man’s shoulders.
Hearing how the sword bounced, she turned to Cassius, who didn’t say much but just smiled.
"They are called monsters for a reason," Rowena said through the microphone.
So these monsters weren’t just normal gladiators; their bodies were made up of metal.
But how were they supposed to fight with a sword if that was the case?
Amelia, deep in thought, got a little distracted in the fight, and the second monster attacked her from behind, holding her hands behind her back.
The monster before her raised his blade and was about to plunge straight through her chest, making everyone’s heart pound against their chest, when she jumped, taking his body as a support.
As she jumped, she held the monster’s hand that was holding her and turned her boyfriend 180° before throwing herself to the side.
While she was doing so, she looked at the other Lunas who were equally struggling, while a couple of Lunas were being taken aside because they had been wounded and had fallen unconscious.
Amelia looked at the highest seat, where Cyrus was staring at her intensely, and closed her eyes for a brief second.
She needed to do it. There was no other way through it.
Amelia told herself.
The monster lunged again. The steel flashed under the sharp sunlight, and sand kicked up around her ankles. Amelia ducked quickly to avoid the attack from the blade before she turned around and kicked the man’s legs, making him fall to the ground.
"If you really think you could outdo me just because you are made up of some kind of steel, you are wrong, my friend," Amelia said as she grabbed the monster’s face, ready to behead it.
But when she realized that the rest of the body was made up of steel, the face was much more human-like.
Amelia’s eyes flashed with evil as she jumped to the side when the second monster came for her.
She grabbed the sword and tightened her hold on it before hitting the head this time.
The sword went half inside the monster’s head, the blood splashing all over her face and body, making her take a deep breath in disgust as the dead body fell to the ground.
She clenched her fists and took the sword before pulling it out, making more blood splash.
With a sigh, she turned around, noticing an Alpha female about to be slaughtered by the monster.
She was about to rush to help when she saw Hannah hitting the girl’s head with the back of her sword, rendering her unconscious.
As soon as Luna fell unconscious, the monster left her.
"Hannah! What the hell do you think you are doing? You are supposed to attack the monsters and fight against them. What is the meaning of this?" Amelia asked.
Hannah chuckled at her sister’s words before she rolled her eyes.
"Oh, come on, sister. I was barely helping Luna by saving her from the monster." Hannah smiled cunningly.
"And you could’ve done it by attacking the monster instead," Amelia said.
Hannah nodded.
"I know, but what would be fun in that? Besides, I think I am doing a pretty good job of eliminating the competition. They asked us to fight the monsters and survive until the time limit is over. They never said anything about not helping others survive," Hannah said sarcastically.
Amelia shook her head and looked at the timer on the clock. There were still 10 minutes left. She looked at the remaining eight monsters, which were definitely an abomination to the world, nonetheless, and was about to ask Hannah for help but changed her mind at the last minute.
If she asked Hannah to help her save Luna, the cunning girl would definitely do something to harm the saved girl, and they wouldn’t have any belief in goodness throughout the entire trial.
"You stop what you are doing. We all know how evil you are. Don’t need to give them a reason to call you a bitch," Amelia said.
She was about to turn around when Hannah suddenly grabbed her hand.
"You know, on a second note, aren’t you surprised how I managed to stay alive for so long even when many Lunas perished? Maybe I can give you a tip to win the second round." Hannah asked.
Amelia scoffed. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Who has any interest in any tips from a cheater who is probably cowering and hiding behind dead bodies to feel strong? You better watch out," Amelia said before she turned around, clapping her hands to catch the monster’s attention herself.
"I’ll help." Amelia turned to her, where Luna Crimson stood at some distance.
"I have figured out a way. Let’s do it," she said, and Amelia looked at the situation before nodding.
"Okay,"
